1. A stunted spiritual growth.

i think this is a true statement. Many Christians do not feel that they are growing spiritually with many Christians, if not most, feeling that they are stuck in a rut. Many Christians feel like their knowledge of God’s Word is very elementary.
Well, God’s desire is for you to grow in spiritual maturity and in knowledge of His Word.
1 Corinthians 13:11 “When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things.”
Now, if you struggle with Christian growth and knowledge of God’s Word, it is not God’s fault because He has gifted you with the Holy Spirit and with His completed Word.
Too many Christians are remaining babes in Christ, and there are two reasons why you are not maturing into leadership positions in the church.
(1) You are lost.
If you are not saved, how can you grow spiritually, and how could you possibly grown in wisdom of God’s Word?
(2) You are hindering your spiritual growth.
If you are saved and not growing spiritually, it is your fault. You are hindering your own spiritual growth. Not me. Not this church. Not God. You are hindering your own growth. That is just it. I cannot tell you something elaborate. It is you that is stopping you from maturing into Christian giants.
My goal is to look at the habits in your life that are preventing you from growing spiritually and to give you a corrective action plan.

2. 8 habits that hinder your spiritual growth.

A. Following human traditions instead of God’s Word.

This will be brief and simple.
You cannot and will not grow as a Christian if you do not study God’s Word.
That is just as straightforward as I can be.
Spiritual growth is impossible apart from God’s Word.
Matthew 15:6 “then he need not honor his father or mother.’ Thus you have made the commandment of God of no effect by your tradition.”
I chose this verse because that is what many Christians do. They make God’s Word of no effect because they do not study it enough for it to impact their lives.
We have memorized what grandma says the Bible says, but as we have proven through the years, grandma does not always know what God’s Word says.
If you do not or are not studying God’s Word, you will not grow spiritually.
“Well, Jimmy, I am just too busy.” Well, stay tuned because I am going to tell you how that is hindering your spiritual growth too. Make time in your day to study God’s Word. It is the only way you are going to grow in wisdom and into spiritual maturity.

B. Believing the prosperity gospel.

Subconsciously, many Christians fall into the trap of believing the prosperity gospel, but dear friend, God never promised to make you wealthy, and He never promised to make you healthy.
The Bible time and time again reinforces the truth that we are going to face hard times.
Job 14:1 ““Man who is born of woman Is of few days and full of trouble.”
If being a follower of God means you are going to be healthy and wealthy, God needs to apologize to Paul, Job, Peter, John, and Jesus because they did not get the message.
