Bread and Sword

1 Samuel 21

We pick up in the story when David is running from Saul yet again. David knows there is a price tag on his head for anyone who can David’s location and bring him to saul to murder. David has been on the run and has no food or weapon at hand… so where does he run to the only place where he knows is a safe place. The temple. And that is where we beging in scripture so hang tight as i read verses 1-10.

Read 1 Samuel 21:1-10

Have you ever been on the run? Or maybe you aren’y physically running from something or someone but mentally and emotionally on the run? You have gone through some recent hard times and to numb the pain or to drowned out the sound you just scroll on instagram, binge watch Severance, or just overwork youself?

I think it’s easy for me when it’s a stressful season just to find it more important to spend my extra time working to try and get ahead then to stop acknowledge the real issue at hand. But that was never the way Jesus intended us to live. He wanted to be at peace. To lean on him. To know he is our safe place. Our sanctuary.

Matthew 11:28–30 “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.””

When was the last time you allowed yourself to rely on him to carry the burden? Have you rested? Easier said then done maybe but let take a look at David’s story
