A Seeking Savior
A Seeking Savior
Jesus makes a special trip for this man (1)
The narrative gives no explanation for his trip across the sea into Gentile territory. Jesus leaves seemingly vibrant ministry with large crowds to pursue one Gentile man.
Jesus immediately returns to his ministry in Galilee (20)
A Desperate Subject
A Desperate Subject
Only Mark mentions the severity of his case.
Other gospel writers describe his basic state, but only Mark tells us on multiple occasions that no one could help him.
He is hopeless (vv 3-4)
His hopelessness is marked twice: “no one could bind him anymore” (3) and “no one had the strength to subdue him” (4), informing us that people (presumably the crowd later in the text) had tried to help him without success.
God does not loves the masses, he loves people; He loves them individually.
