Introduction:
Good morning everyone its good to be here this wonderful morning to be able to worship God this wonderful day. for the last couple of weeks we been studying the teachings of prayer from Jesus Christ, and what Jesus Christ how Jesus Christ taught prayer to his followers, believers, and disciples. This week continue with the sermon on the mound. we are going to be looking how Jesus Christ taught on Judging. Let’s turn in our Bibles to Mt 7:1-6
1 “Judge not, that you be not judged. 2 For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. 3 And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye? 5 Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
6 “Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces.
So, today our points for today, we are going to be (1st Jesus Condemned some Judging, (2nd Jesus did not condemned all Judging, and finally are (3rd Point for today will be what the Bible teaches on Judging.
Jesus condemned some Judging:
Jesus condemned some Judging:
So for our first point for today we are going to be really looking at how Jesus condemned some Judging, and we can see here in our main passage of Mt 7:1-5. The first thing we should recognize here is that how we as people view judging. we as people view Judging as a negative, no one likes when someone who study’s scripture says what we are doing is sinful in our daily life. As people we never take criticism very well. when we are criticized, we think we messed up badly. the truth is some criticism is necessary for our growth. Let’s look at Mt 7:1
1 “Judge not, that you be not judged.
When we judge we should judge in way that is helpful not like the Pharisees, the Sadducees, and the scribes who belittle the Jewish people. in some sense we tend to do that in a way when we are among people who dislike someone we call friend. our peers will use emotionally pressure to into making fun of someone else. Now if we look at Mt 7:2
2 For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.
We come to learn from verse two within our main passage is that, whatever measurement we use to judge others will be use against us as well. Jesus was teaching about judging others can be both good, and destructive. we can build someone up with positive criticism, and destroy some with negative criticism if we are not careful. both are a necessary growth within our faith. There are going to be times when we as Christians make mistakes within daily lives. no one likes to hear judgement about what they are doing is wrong. Which leads to our Second point today.
Jesus does not condemn all Judging:
Jesus does not condemn all Judging:
We come to understand that Judgement or Criticism is necessary for our growth as Christians. Judgements we make in our daily life lead to making the right choices that are pleasing to God. Let’s turn in our Bibles to John 7:21-25
21 Jesus answered and said to them, “I did one work, and you all marvel. 22 Moses therefore gave you circumcision (not that it is from Moses, but from the fathers), and you circumcise a man on the Sabbath. 23 If a man receives circumcision on the Sabbath, so that the law of Moses should not be broken, are you angry with Me because I made a man completely well on the Sabbath? 24 Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.”
25 Now some of them from Jerusalem said, “Is this not He whom they seek to kill?
From this passage here within the gospel of John, we come see that Jesus was teaching about concerning the law of Moses. some of the Pharisees, Sadducees, and Scribes were questioning if Christ was demon, because he heal a man on the sabbath. Jesus counter with you all marvel at this, and yet you say i broke the law of Moses. From this passage we can see that Jesus did not break the law of Moses because he was helping someone in need. Jesus made the judgement that would cause strife within leaders of the Jewish community. This Judgement was out of righteousness. Let’s go ahead turn in our Mt 7:16-20
16 You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? 17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them.
From this passage again we see that Jesus was teaching about judging according how people act within this life. Your going to be able to tell if a person is a Christian or a person who lives worldly life. are they doing the things that are pleasing to God, or are they choosing to chase after the things that is pleasing them, chasing desires, or just chasing the world. here is a question for you to think about, who do want to surround yourself with? are you wanting people who build you up, or are people who tear you down? are you going to surround yourself with Christians, or with people who think worldly? Let’s go ahead turn in our Bibles to 1st Thess 5:20-22
20 Do not despise prophecies. 21 Test all things; hold fast what is good. 22 Abstain from every form of evil.
From these three verses within the first letter to Thessalonica, we come to see that Paul is teaching how we should test our judgement skills to what is consider good. one of the gifts that God has given to mankind was free will. we are allow to make our own decision within life that was given to us. it really comes back to the questions i mention earlier. Let’s turn in our Bibles to 1st John 4:1-3.
1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2 By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, 3 and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world.
From this passage here in the first letter to the early Church by John, we come to see that John is talking about false teachers that have been trouble the early Church. John here uses a interesting phrase here in verse 1. John warning the early church to make judgement calls about what is being taught is true or is false. the only for these churches could make these kinds of judgement calls comes back understanding scripture (God’s word). we come to understand that God’s word teaches about how we grow within our faith in God, and Christ. Not only that God’s word shows us what is pleasing to him. The Bible teaches on all kinds of topics for all, and that includes Judgement.
The Bible teaching on Judgement:
The Bible teaching on Judgement:
For our third and finally point for today is looking at example within the scriptures. one of our first example is John. Let’s turn in our Bibles to 3rd John 9-10
9 I have written something to the church, but Diotrephes, who likes to put himself first, does not acknowledge our authority. 10 So if I come, I will bring up what he is doing, talking wicked nonsense against us. And not content with that, he refuses to welcome the brothers, and also stops those who want to and puts them out of the church.
From this passage in the 3rd letter John to the early church, we come see John makes a judgement call about Diotrephes. who is cause problems for the early Church for his own benefit. we have to make the right calls when comes to judging, testing, and to criticizing others within this life. our next example comes from the 2nd letter to Thessalonica. Let’s turn in our Bibles to 2nd Thess 3:6-9
6 But we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you withdraw from every brother who walks disorderly and not according to the tradition which he received from us. 7 For you yourselves know how you ought to follow us, for we were not disorderly among you; 8 nor did we eat anyone’s bread free of charge, but worked with labor and toil night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you, 9 not because we do not have authority, but to make ourselves an example of how you should follow us.
From this passage here in the 2nd Letter to the early Church in Thessalonica. Again here we come to see Paul giving the early Church warning about to hold fast to things that was being taught to early church. Paul was explain about how false teachers were leading followers, believers astray from the faith. they were not teaching what is true within the scriptures. Let’s turn in our Bibles to 1st Cor 6:1-3
1 Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unrighteous, and not before the saints? 2 Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world will be judged by you, are you unworthy to judge the smallest matters? 3 Do you not know that we shall judge angels? How much more, things that pertain to this life?
From this passage here within the letter to the early church to Corinth. Paul here is teaching about judging the character of man. reminding the early church about how our action reflect God, or being worldly. Our actions determine our outcome while live here on earth. our we doing things that are pleasing to God, or our we chasing our desire in this physical life. we can even tie Gen, the story of Cain and Abel. did God not warn Cain about sin desire was to rule over him, from this warning that God had given Cain also affect us as well. Sin desires separate us from God. Learning to make judgement calls is not bad thing it protects Christians from being lead astray. The world views judgement as negative because people do not like hear about what they are doing is wrong. in order to correct themselves, what is wrong according to God.
Conclusion:
Conclusion:
At the end of the day Judgement is not bad, depending on how it is used. Judgement necessary thing for all Christians. I hope we learn to make good judgement calls about our faith, which allow us to grow in God, and Christ. I may not know what you all struggle with in your daily lives.
