KBM Dinosaurs & Humans

Today, as we continue our series on Apologetics, we are going to take a look at something that has fascinated modern humans for a very long time. That topic is about dinosaurs and whether or not humans and dinosaurs could have lived side-by-side. Now the short answer to that question is “yes they can and did live side-by-side” but how can we know this? To answer that we will ask and answer three questions.

First question is can the theory of evolution have dinosaurs and humans living at the same time, and the answer is no. According to the theory of evolution timelines the earth was formed around 4.5 billion years ago. Life then began from non-life some 4 billion years ago. After that, 1 billion years ago you had multicellular life begin, followed by plants evolving 500 million years ago. In evolution dinosaurs go extinct 65 million years go and humans only began life some 3 million years ago. As you can see the theory of evolution demands dinosaurs and humans having never lived at the same time.

Second question then is “could dinosaurs and humans lived side-by-side?” This question is important because many believe that do to the large size of dinosaurs such as the Tyrannosaurus Rex (20 feet tall and 47 feet long) or the Brontosaurus (74 feet long and weighed as much as 4 elephants) that it would have been impossible for humans to survive if they were on the earth at the same time as humans. In fact in a famous man named John Clayton wrote, “It is ludicrous to suggest that man cohabited with the dinosaurs…Man could not have lived in a world full of dinosaurs, so by the time God created Adam the dinosaurs were gone.”

However, what most never mention when talking about such matters is that the average size of a dinosaur wasn’t what we see depicted on tv and in the movies. Take the movie Jurassic Park and the velociraptor. In the movie it is seen as a 7 foot hunting machine but in reality it was only 3 feet tall with a claw that could be cut with a toenail clipper. In fact the average size of dinosaurs with all things under consideration is only that of a rhinoceros. So, could dinosaurs and humans live side-by-side, of course because we already live next to and have even domesticated the some of the largest of them. Humans have been able to train elephants, hippos, lions, tigers, killer whales and many many more.

Third question: Is there any evidence that dinosaurs and humans lived at the same time? Yes, and the evidence is overwhelming for such.

First, lets begin with the biblical evidence because the bible certainly talks about dinosaurs it just doesn’t call them dinosaurs because that word was not invented until 1842 by a man named Miles Coverdale.

Job 40:15–18 ESV

15 “Behold, Behemoth, which I made as I made you; he eats grass like an ox. 16 Behold, his strength in his loins, and his power in the muscles of his belly. 17 He makes his tail stiff like a cedar; the sinews of his thighs are knit together. 18 His bones are tubes of bronze, his limbs like bars of iron.

1 “Can you draw out Leviathan with a hook, Or snare his tongue with a line which you lower?

20 Smoke goes out of his nostrils, As from a boiling pot and burning rushes. 21 His breath kindles coals, And a flame goes out of his mouth.

Does this sound familiar? It should because the Leviathan sounds a lot like what we read about concerning dragons. We will talk about that more in a moment, but first I want to point out that God’s word demands that all animal and human life were created in six literal days as we have been discussing over the last few weeks. This fact alone proves that humans and dinosaurs lived at the same time.

Psalm 33:6 NKJV

6 By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, And all the host of them by the breath of His mouth.

Now, remember when I mentioned that the word “dinosaur” was not invented until 1842. There was a word for the dinosaurs before that, and that word was “dragon.” An interesting fact about dragons is that there is only one continent in which dragons are not written about and that continent is Antarctica. Every other continent has written extensively about dragons throughout their history and most of them are were not written as folklore but day to day history. In fact Animal Plant in their 2005 program titled Dragons: A Fantasy Made Real said…

“There is one creature remembered in the legends of almost every human culture that’s ever existed. A creature depicted with remarkable similarity by the Chinese, the Aztecs, even the Inuit who live in a frozen land where no reptiles are found—even they have stories of this animal: the dragon. Cultures from different continents, people who had no contact with one another yet all of them have stories describing the same mythical animal.”

Maybe, just maybe that is because dragon weren’t mythical creatures but ones they all saw and witnessed with their own eyes. Herodotus who lived around 450 BC wrote of dragons in Arabia when he went to visit. He wrote…

“There is a place in Arabia…to which I went, on hearing of some winged serpents; and when I arrived there, I saw bones and spines of serpents, in such quantities as it would be impossible to describe. The form of the serpent is like that of a water-snake; but he has wings without feathers, and as like as possible to the wings of a bat.”

There is plenty of physical evidence for this as well. The Khmer civilization in 1186 started building the temple Ta Prohm in South East Asia. There are a lot of stone carvings all over it and in one you can look up to this day there is a clear stegosaurs.

Here in America under the Kachina Bridge in Southeastern Utah, there are many paintings dating anywhere from 700 to 1,250 years ago. Many of these paintings have humans right next to dinosaurs.

In Mexico many clay figures of what appears to be toy dinosaurs figures for kids have been unearthed that date to around 1600 AD.

We have several Inca burial stones that date to the 1500’s that have beautiful artwork on them and many of them have pictures of dinosaurs on them with, what is assumed, to be their humans.

If we don’t allow the noise of those that hold to an unproven theory of evolution to cloud our views of dinosaurs and the truth about them it becomes very clear that humans and dinosaurs lived side-by-side until the majority of them, like the majority of all life, went extinct with the flood recorded in Genesis 6-9.
