John’s Foundational Statements 1 JOHN 1:1-4 JOHN’S FOUNDATIONAL STATEMENTS 1. The assertion: God the Father has clearly revealed to us that Jesus in his humanity is God and gives eternal life. 1-2 2. The goal: You may live in fellowship and joy. 3-4 FELLOWSHIP AND JOYFUL CONFIDENCE ARE THE RESULTS OF RIGHT BELIEF ABOUT JESUS. APPLICATION 1. Jesus is the source of eternal life. 2. We must recognize the connection between what we believe and our relationship with God. Failure to believe correctly has major impacts on our relationship with God. Believing correctly will lead to right relationships and completed joy. APPLICATION 3. Biblical fellowship goes beyond acquaintance or friendship; it is unity in Christ and unity of right belief. 4. Fellowship with other people is impacted by mutual beliefs—therefore, I must be careful in my beliefs that will lead to with whom I have fellowship. I must also then be careful with whom I am in fellowship with if they have wrong beliefs. APPLICATION 5. I don’t have to live in the dread of doubt – joyful confidence in God’s working is possible – there is hope. BELIEVE RIGHT— LIVE IN FELLOWSHIP AND JOYFUL CONFIDENCE.
