The Mustard Seed
Notes
Transcript
31 He presented another parable to them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a person took and sowed in his field;
32 and this is smaller than all the other seeds, but when it is fully grown, it is larger than the garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the sky come and nest in its branches.”
In this passage we see the mustard seed represents the Kingdom of God
Mustard seeds are the small round seeds of various mustard plants. The seeds are usually about 1 to 2 millimetres (1⁄32 to 3⁄32 in) in diameter and may be colored from yellowish white to black.
While there isn't a specific species of tree in the mustardfamily that is generally referred to as a "Brassicaceae tree" in Israel, several members of this family, particularly mustards, can grow to a considerable size, sometimes 15’ described as tree-like in appearance under favorable condition.
When the kingdom of is planted in the right place or ground it should by its nature grow and thrive.
41 So then, those who had received his word were baptized; and that day there were added about three thousand souls.
42 They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.
The ground needs to worked, fertilized, and watered.
In Matthew 13:32 a seed under the right conditions becomes a tree that birds can nest in its branches.
Yet there is another place I go to in thinking about the Kingdom of God flourishing — Matthew 6:10
10 ‘Your kingdom come. Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven.
God’s Kingdom on earth as in heave is a flourishing growing kingdom.
Like what Paul stated in Ephesians 4:16
16 from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.
We need to be planting the kingdom of God Walla Walla on earth as it is in heaven.
The Kingdom of God in a place where people can find rest and refuge from the world.
So in my mind then the Kingdom of God is the church.
In Acts it started with 120, then grew to 3,000 when the first gospel invitation was given.
We need to be planting the kingdom of God on earth as it is in heaven.
The true fruit of Church is other churches.
Reminds me of Matthew 12:33
33 “Either assume the tree to be good as well as its fruit good, or assume the tree to be bad as well as its fruit bad; for the tree is known by its fruit.
Just imagine what a church could accomplish if it was involved in the planting the Kingdom of God on earth as it is in heaven.
