Anchored in Peace (2025)

Scripture Invitation

This afternoon, I ask that you would offer your prayerful consideration to John 14:27 as we labor together in this word “Anchored in Peace”

It is there that The Holy Spirit has highlighted our context for our brief sermonic time together.

Bible Passage

John 14:27 CSB

“Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Don’t let your heart be troubled or fearful.

Introduction

Can I paint this picture for you real quick?

Picture this - Jesus is sitting at the last supper with His disciples, breaking bread one last time.

The atmosphere is THICK with tension!

Judas has already sold Him out.

Peter is about to deny Him three times.

The cross is waiting.

Everything in Christ’s ministry is about to go LEFT!

But watch this now - in this heavy moment, Jesus wasnt offering them money, he wasnt giving them weapons, and did not offer them an escape plan.

He was giving them something that money CAN'T buy!

He was giving them His PEACE! Somebody say "His Peace!"

Brothers & Sisters, this ain't that regular peace the world talks about!

This isn’t that "take two pills and call me in the morning" peace!

This isn’t that "if I could just get that promotion" peace!

This isn’t that "once I find the right person" peace!

No! This is that SUPERNATURAL peace!

This is that "peace that passes ALL understanding" peace!

This is that "I shouldn't be okay but I AM okay" peace!

This is that "devil is mad but I'm still smiling" peace!

Somebody who's been through something ought to help me preach this morning!

Let me tell somebody who's going through right now - I don't care how big your storm is!

I don't care how high those waves are getting!

I don't care how hard that wind is blowing!

There's an anchor that holds in Jesus Christ!

Application

Let me break this thing DOWN this morning and ill be out of your way!

When Jesus said "My peace I give to you," He wasn't talking about a temporary feel-good moment!

He wasn't talking about a quick fix!

He was offering that SAME PEACE that kept Him calm when his own rejected him and talked about him!

That SAME PEACE that had Him sleeping in the midst of a storm!

That SAME PEACE that let Him love on folks while they hated Him!

I'm talking about that peace that had Him saying "Father, forgive them" while they was nailing Him to the cross!

I'm talking about that peace that had Him breaking bread with Judas when He KNEW that man was gonna betray Him!

I'm talking about that peace that had Him washing Peter's feet when He KNEW that man was gonna deny Him!

Somebody say "THAT KIND OF PEACE!"

This isn’t a passive type of peace.

This is that HEAVYWEIGHT peace that'll carry you THROUGH every trial, THROUGH every tribulation, THROUGH every storm!

But here's where some of us are messing up - you are looking for peace in all the wrong places!

Some people run to that bank account thinking money gonna fix it! 

But can I tell you something?

You can be living in a mansion and still be MISERABLE!

Some people run to relationships thinking another person gonna fix it! 

But people will leave you! People will hurt you! People will disappoint you! You can't put your peace in nobody's hands but Jesus!

Some people run to parties and that bottle thinking that's gonna fix it! 

But when the music stop playing, when the lights come on, when everybody go home - that emptiness still gonna be right there waiting on you!

[Pause for effect] 

Look at your neighbor and say, "You looking in the wrong place!"

Now, let me give you three things that'll change your WHOLE life about this peace!

NUMBER ONE: You gotta RECEIVE this peace like a GIFT!

Jesus didn’t say "Peace I'll help you earn!"

He didn’t say "Peace you gotta work for!"

He said "Peace I GIVE to you!"

Y'all ain't hearing me!

You can't buy this peace with your good deeds!

You can't earn it with your church attendance!

You can't get it from your meditation apps!

This peace comes from knowing that the same Jesus who told those waves "Peace, be still!" is living on the INSIDE of you!

“Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Don’t let your heart be troubled or fearful.

SECONDLY, you gotta PROTECT this peace!

Jesus said "Don't let your heart be troubled."

HOLD UP!

Did y'all catch that?

He said "DON'T LET!" That means you got some responsibility in this thing!

 Some people let anything and anybody steal their peace!

Listen,

That toxic group chat got your phone buzzing all day with foolishness? DELETE IT! I said DELETE IT!

Ain't nobody got time for 52 messages of mess before breakfast! That ain't nothing but drama in your pocket!

That Facebook feed full of everybody's opinions and arguments? UNFOLLOW! Hit that button!

You don't need to see your cousin's third political rant this week! You don't need to know who is fighting who in the comments!

That friend who ALWAYS got the "latest tea" about everybody? SET THEM BOUNDARIES!

Tell 'em "I love you, but I ain't receiving no mess today!" Your ears ain't a garbage disposal for everybody's drama!

That job got you answering emails at 11 PM? SET OFFICE HOURS!

They are not paying you enough to lose your sleep! Tell 'em "These emails can wait till business hours!"

That relative always bringing up your past mistakes? LIMIT THAT EXPOSURE!

You ain't gotta sit there and let nobody keep throwing your history in your face! If God can forgive you so can they

Them social media notifications popping up every two minutes? TURN THEM OFF!

Your peace worth more than them likes and comments! Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Whatsapp, TicTock can wait - your mental health CAN'T!

That toxic relationship thats got you checking your phone every five minutes? BLOCK AND DELETE! I said BLOCK! AND! DELETE!

Your heart ain't a 24-hour convenience store - stop letting people walk in and out when they please!

Look at your neighbor and say "Guard your peace!"

LASTLY, you gotta RELEASE this peace to others!

When you have this peace, you become like a shelter in the storm!

People start running to you when their world falling apart!

Why?

Because they see something different about you!

I'm talking about that peace that has you sleeping good while everybody else up worried!

I'm talking about that peace that has you praising while everybody else panicking!

I'm talking about that peace that has you steady while everybody else shaking!

Closing

As I Close, Let me tell somebody in here today:

Your bills might be due, BUT PEACE IS AVAILABLE!

Your body might be sick, BUT PEACE IS AVAILABLE!

Your children might be wild, BUT PEACE IS AVAILABLE!

Your marriage might be struggling, BUT PEACE IS AVAILABLE!

Your haters might be talking, BUT PEACE IS AVAILABLE!

Because when you're anchored in Jesus:

The storm can't shake you!

The devil can't break you!

The haters can't face you!

The problems can't phase you!

AND THE FEAR CAN'T TAKE YOU!

Today we need to be Anchored in Peace of Jesus

We need to Be Anchored in the peace that passes all understanding.

We need to Be Anchored in the peace that calms our fears.

We need to Be Anchored in the peace that brings comfort.

We need to Be Anchored in the peace that strengthens our hearts.

We need to Be Anchored in the peace that restores our souls.

We need to Be Anchored in the peace that mends our brokenness.

We need to Be Anchored in the peace that encourages hope.

We need to Be Anchored in the peace that fosters patience.

We need to Be Anchored in the peace that cultivates joy.

We need to Be Anchored in the peace that transcends chaos.

You need to know today that the peace of God is available right now, right where you are, no matter what storm is raging in your life! 

What kind of peace?

Peace, peace! wonderful peace,

Coming down from the Father above,

Sweep over my spirit forever, I pray,

In fathomless billows of love.
