Pentecost Sunday
Acts 2:1-13
Worship & Communion: Come O Holy Spirit
Acts 2:1-13 – English
Though the disciples had not yet received the Holy Spirit, scripture tells us Christ had made mention of it, on many occasions, and the Spirit was clearly in action.
Acts 1:2
Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles who he had chosen.
What commandments had he given?
- Go into all the world and preach the Gospel
Christ has been taken up, but there remains a means of comfort and communication to the disciples through God’s Spirit.
Application:
God is interested in the affairs of our lives. He uses the Spirit to bring about a personal connection with him.
Worship & Communion:
Spirit of the Living God
Acts 2:1-8 – Spanish
Acts 1:4
And being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.
Christ has already promised the Spirit.
John 14:16
And I will pray of the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may be with you forever,
Since the beginning of time the Spirit existed and was spoken of throughout scripture.
Lamentations 1:16
…mine eye runneth down with water, because the comforter that should relieve my soul is far from me…
Interestingly, the Spirit mentioned in Genesis that moves upon the face of the waters is by resemblance a breath, a region of the sky.
But in Acts, the Spirit now becomes the Holy Ghost and its attributes are
- Still a breath
- But also human – with a soul, with mental disposition
- It has become Christ’s soul
Application:
The indwelling of the Spirit in your life should be a demonstration to others on the personal fellowship you share with Christ.
Worship & Communion: Holy Spirit You Are Welcome Here
Acts 2:1-8 – German

Acts 1:5
For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.
Jesus promised, just as there was a baptism by immersion, soon their minds and spirits would be immersed with the Holy Spirit.
Application:
If you have believed on the name of Jesus Christ, that He is the son of God, died and risen for the remission of sin, and have invited him into your heart and life, then you have the Spirit of God dwelling within you.
But many a church goer though baptized in the spirit, never experiences the power of the spirit because they have not aligned the spirit to the commandments of Christ; which is to go into all the world and preach the Gospel.
Acts 1:8
But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
The spirit is your comforter. His purpose is to empower you to tell others about Jesus Christ, God the Father, and all he has done for you.
Worship & Communion: When we all come together
Acts 2:1-8 – Bislama
Acts 2:12-13
And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this? Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.
Peter stands and delivers a sermon, and three thousand come to a saving knowledge of Christ.
50 days after the children of Israel crossed the red sea, Moses went up into the mountain. In Exodus 32 he receives the 10 commandments, the letter of the law
With those commandments, the nation of Israel was born.
The people build and worship a golden calf and 3,000 people turn away from the word of God and are slain.
The letter of the law kills. 3000 people die
The spirit of the law gives life. 3000 people are saved
Yet still, we have devout men, and multitudes of people who see the spirit poured out, see the miracles taking place, and yet they doubt and mock what they see.
At the conclusion of Peter’s sermon he says to the people;
Acts 2:40
Save yourselves from this untoward generation
Untoward = crooked and perverse
Do you doubt the power of God in your life?
Do you doubt the power of the Spirit in your life?
Application:
- The spirit of God is not subordinate to us
- We can remain rigid in our faith, having a form of religion, but denying its power
- Yet the Spirit will find a voice through those people who choose to tell others about Christ, who allow the Spirit to empower them in all things Christ.
What are these things of Christ?
- They read the scriptures
- Partook of communion
- Prayed together
- Performed miracles
- Sold their possessions
- Helped the poor and needy
- Gave thanks
- Praised God
And many were saved.
Their days were consumed with prayer, fellowship, one another and the spreading of the Gospel.
Do you want an anointing of the Spirit unlike anything you have ever experienced?
- Set aside your daily chores and tasks
- And make others more important than ourselves
- Rid ourselves of all the worldly possessions that burden our lives
- Reach out and help the poor
- Give to those in need
Worship & Communion: Fresh Wind & Prayer with one another.
