📜 Confession of Faith
I am not moved by what I see or by what I feel. I am moved by what I believe. I believe the Word of God! The victory is mine! I have it now! I can see it through the eyes of my faith! In Jesus’ Name! Amen
Sermon Introduction
Sermon Introduction
Let’s talk about something real—money. Here is what this is not! This message is not prosperity preaching! So Why talk about money in church? Because Jesus did—over 2,000 verses and nearly two-thirds of His parables deal with finances. Why? Because how we handle money reveals our heart condition. Here’s another thing: “Where else should we talk about money?”
Many times as Christians we will talk to each other about how and why : • how and why we need to go to church more • how and why we need to pray more • how and Why we need to read our Bible more • even how and why We give more than Non-Christians
But check this out - when we take a closer look at Christians and Non-Christians in the area of how we manage money we discover some amazing things: • Christians have the same financial problems of Non-Christians • We have the same debt that they have • We have the same holes in our money management that Non-Christians do
We’re living in a time where money is tight, prices are rising, and uncertainty feels like the new normal. From gas to groceries to rent, everyone—young adults to retirees—is asking, “How do I make ends meet?” But while we’re seeking financial peace, God is offering us something deeper: kingdom economics that don’t crash when Wall Street does.
Today, we live in a culture of comparison, consumerism, and credit. You can swipe now and worry later. But Jesus calls us to a better way—a kingdom economy where peace replaces pressure and faith replaces fear.
Four Principles of God’s Economics (2025 Edition)
Four Principles of God’s Economics (2025 Edition)
🔥 POINT 1: Treasures on Earth vs. Treasures in Heaven
🔥 POINT 1: Treasures on Earth vs. Treasures in Heaven
Matthew 6:19–21 (KJV, NLT, AMP)
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.
But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
— Matthew 6:19–21 (NIV)
19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal;
Jesus begins this instruction with a strong caution: "Do not store up... treasures on earth." This isn't a condemnation of ownership or savings, but a warning against trusting in the temporary. Now back in biblical days , In the 1st century, wealth was often stored in material goods like fine clothing and precious metals. Moths could eat the fabric, rust would corrode metal, and thieves could break into homes.
Today, our “moths” may be inflation, our “moths” may be economic crashes, or our “moths” may be digital hackers. The message is the same: anything that can be taken from you is not a secure foundation.
We are often tempted to find our identity, security, and worth in what we accumulate—homes, brands, status symbols, retirement funds, or even social media recognition. But Jesus reminds us that all these things are perishable.
Lean In: There is wisdom in budgeting and stewardship, but danger in obsession and misplaced priorities. God wants us to see money as a tool—not a treasure.
Earthly treasures: Fade with time, Earthly treasures Are vulnerable to theft or devaluation
Earthly treasures - Tie our hearts to fear, anxiety, and comparison
28 He who trusts in his riches will fall, But the righteous will flourish like foliage.
5 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”
Let’s keep this real: we all have had some amount of money and then it’s gone! We struggle to get back to what we had or even try to get more to the point, that’s all we focus on! In today’s world, we have inflation, we have people scamming folks out of their entire life savings, and let’s not talk about the insecurity of the economy! these are “moth and rust” of our time. Jesus isn't condemning wise planning—He's warning against idolizing things that fade.
So what is Jesus saying: Storing up treasures in heaven means investing in eternal values: investing in generosity, investing in love, investing in service, investing in salvation. Your giving habits guide your heart. When your treasure is in the kingdom, your peace won’t be shaken by the economy.
The Power and Pitfall of Money
The Power and Pitfall of Money
Let me say this Money is powerful, but it is not neutral. When we love money more than we love God, we open the door to temptation, spiritual compromise, and burnout.
9 But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition.
10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
The text reminds us that the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil.
Even in the book of Mark the word of God is in competition with wealth - check this out:
15 The seed that fell on the footpath represents those who hear the message, only to have Satan come at once and take it away.
16 The seed on the rocky soil represents those who hear the message and immediately receive it with joy.
17 But since they don’t have deep roots, they don’t last long. They fall away as soon as they have problems or are persecuted for believing God’s word.
18 The seed that fell among the thorns represents others who hear God’s word,
19 but all too quickly the message is crowded out by the worries of this life, the lure of wealth, and the desire for other things, so no fruit is produced.
20 And the seed that fell on good soil represents those who hear and accept God’s word and produce a harvest of thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times as much as had been planted!”
This tell shows us how wealth can choke the Word, making it unfruitful.
Even in the book of Luke
13 “No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.”
This scripture draws a line in the sand: you cannot serve God and money.
Lean in Today , the new little"god" isn’t a golden calf—it’s a glowing phone with banking apps and crypto tickers. If you're checking your portfolio more than your prayer life, it's time to realign.
So I have to ask the question? Does money control my decisions more than faith?
Now stay with me:
Giving Is the Gateway to God’s Economy
Giving Is the Gateway to God’s Economy
38 Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.”
Giving is a spiritual gateway—not a financial transaction. Jesus said "Give, and it will be given unto you" in good measure.
Being generous is just assumed in the life of the Christ follower, in the life of a believer.
6 Remember this—a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop.
7 You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.”
8 And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.
9 As the Scriptures say, “They share freely and give generously to the poor. Their good deeds will be remembered forever.”
10 For God is the one who provides seed for the farmer and then bread to eat. In the same way, he will provide and increase your resources and then produce a great harvest of generosity in you.
11 Yes, you will be enriched in every way so that you can always be generous. And when we take your gifts to those who need them, they will thank God.
This scripture teaches you and me that God blesses us not to hoard but to become a channel of blessing to others. Giving aligns your heart with God's hands. If God can get it through you, He’ll get it to you.
I know a lot of folks are worried about being scammed in the church! So they don’t give or they give sparingly! I know, it has happened and will happen again! But here is what the text reminds you and me , in the Kingdom of God, in God’s economy you must decide in your heart how much to give and when you give don’t give from a place of pressure or give reluctantly. God wants you to give with a cheerful heart! And I believe when you do that God will provide for you what you need
So the question is are you giving from a place of faith or giving from a place of reluctance and fear?
My Blessing and Your Blessing might be waiting on the other side of my obedience to the word of God

📍Sermon Point 2: God’s Storage Plan – Secure What Matters Most
📍Sermon Point 2: God’s Storage Plan – Secure What Matters Most
Matthew 6:20 (KJV)
“But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal.”
When Jesus talks about treasure, He’s not just talking about money. He’s talking about value, He’s talking about investment, and he’s talking about eternal returns.
"Lay up for yourselves": This is a call to intentional action. Jesus isn't speaking against treasure but about where we invest it.
"Treasures in heaven": Refers to eternal investments—good works, acts of love, faith, generosity, obedience to God, and soul-winning.
"Moth and rust": Symbols of decay. Earthly wealth is subject to natural decay.
"Thieves": Symbolizes human corruption and loss. Earthly possessions are vulnerable to theft and loss, while heavenly ones are eternally secure.
Matthew 6:20 (NLT)
“Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal.”
I was taught to invest in savings accounts, invest in stocks, buy a home or invest in real estate, and retirement plans. Now each of those have a place. But here is what I saying Jesus challenges us to think higher.
Lean In:
You can lose money in a bad market. You can lose a house in a fire. You can lose valuables to thieves. But you can’t lose what you’ve given to God.
💡 God never forgets a gift given in secret, a prayer offered in pain, or a sacrifice made in love.
To invest in heaven’s economy. That means simply what we do for God, how we love others, how we give, and how we serve—that’s the kind of treasure that lasts forever!
Earthly treasure fades. Earthly treasure can be stolen. Earthly treasure is temporary. But heavenly treasure? That’s divine, durable, and eternal.
12 Anyone who builds on that foundation may use a variety of materials—gold, silver, jewels, wood, hay, or straw.
13 But on the judgment day, fire will reveal what kind of work each builder has done. The fire will show if a person’s work has any value.
14 If the work survives, that builder will receive a reward.
We have to be careful as Christ Followers as - Christians how we build. Because it will have to go through the fire! The fire, the issues, the problems, the thieves will show you and me what kind of work and what we have built on! Your work will be shown for what it is , if it survives you will receive the reward!
10 For God is not unjust. He will not forget how hard you have worked for him and how you have shown your love to him by caring for other believers, as you still do.
Let me give you a visual:
Imagine your life is like a bank account. Every time you love somebody that’s hard to love...
Every time you give without expecting anything back…
Every time you serve without applause…
God credits that to your heavenly account. And His interest rate is eternal.
While the world is focused on 401Ks, crypto, and retirement portfolios, God says, “Store up something I can bless eternally!”
Just like Mahalia Jackson used to sing:
🎶 “I’m sending up my timber every day!”
That old song meant every act of kindness, every sacrificial prayer, was like building material for your heavenly home.
What are you sending up to heaven today?
Are you only building your earthly house, or are you also building your eternal home?
If someone checked your spiritual bank statement, would it show withdrawals… or deposits?
🔑 “God’s Storage Plan guarantees returns the stock market can’t.”
When you invest in God’s kingdom—through prayer, service, generosity, and obedience—you’re storing up treasure that can’t be stolen, lost, or destroyed.
Heaven has a better security system.
No moth. No rust. No thieves.
Only rewards.

📍Sermon Point 3: The Heart Follows the Treasure
📍Sermon Point 3: The Heart Follows the Treasure
Matthew 6:21 is more than a financial principle—it’s a diagnostic tool. Jesus is giving us a heart check.
Your treasure doesn’t follow your heart—your heart follows your treasure.
That means if your treasure is in status, your heart will chase clout.
If your treasure is in possessions, your heart will chase material things.
But if your treasure is in God, your heart will chase holiness, humility, and heaven.
🧠 Real Talk Application:
🧠 Real Talk Application:
We like to think our emotions and desires are neutral. But Jesus says your emotional energy, your mental attention, and your spiritual direction are pulled toward what you treasure.
💬 “You will always move in the direction of your strongest affection.”
🎵 Tie-In to Culture
🎵 Tie-In to Culture
Like the old gospel song says:
🎶 “My heart is fixed, my mind’s made up—I'm gonna run on in Jesus' name!”
You can’t fix your heart if your treasure is misplaced.
If you want to fix your focus, you’ve got to shift your treasure.

🔑 “If God doesn’t have your treasure, He won’t have your heart.”
You can’t say you love God but never invest in His work.
You can’t say you’re Kingdom-minded, but your calendar and bank statement never agree.
God’s Economics teaches us: follow the trail of your treasure—and you’ll find your true god.

📖 Matthew 6:21 (KJV)
📖 Matthew 6:21 (KJV)
“For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”
Hear me now Jesus is dropping divine wisdom right here—He’s not just talking about money. He’s talking about the master of your heart.
“Where your treasure is… there WILL your heart be also.”
That means your heart follows what you value most.
💬 If you want to find where someone’s heart is, just follow the trail of their treasure.
Check their bank statement. Check their calendar. Check what they talk about most. Check where they spend their energy.
It will show you what their heart truly cares about.
When the bible talks about treasure - its not just money or possessions, but anything we deeply value, esteem, or prioritize.
When the bible talks about heart - it is The core of your being—your thoughts, will, desires, emotions, and decisions.
When Jesus says “There will your heart be also” – He is teaching a spiritual law: your heart always follows your investment. Not the other way around.
In simpler terms:
Whatever you value most will shape your decisions, direct your emotions, and determine your spiritual focus.
23 Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.
4 Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

If you invest your money in Apple stock, you’ll start watching Apple news, caring about their success. Why? Because your heart follows your investment.
Spiritual Example: If you spend time serving in ministry, you’ll begin to care more about souls and spiritual growth. Why? Because you’ve invested your treasure—your time, gifts, and energy.
Matthew 6:21 is more than a financial principle—it’s a diagnostic tool. Jesus is giving us a heart check.

💬 “You will always move in the direction of your strongest affection.”
i don’t know if you remember this song "My Heart Is Fixed" by Rev. Timothy Wright and the New York Fellowship Mass Choir.
🎶 “My heart is fixed, my mind’s made up—I'm gonna run on in Jesus' name!”
You can’t fix your heart if your treasure is misplaced.
If you want to fix your focus, you’ve got to shift your treasure.
Let me bring this home:
If your treasure is in:
🏠 If your treasure is in: A house, your heart lives in real estate.
💼 If your treasure is in: A job, your heart rises and falls with promotions.
💸 If your treasure is in: A bank account, your joy is tied to the Dow Jones.
👑 If your treasure is in: Popularity, your mood depends on followers and likes.
But if your treasure is in God—your peace is secure.
If your treasure is in His Word—your faith stays strong.
If your treasure is in heavenly things—your heart stays lifted.
Where your treasure is—your heart will follow. Not maybe. Not someday. It will follow.
SO What are you investing your time and attention in right now?
Does your spiritual bank statement match your public confession?
Would your calendar say that your heart is with the God ?
🛑 We can't say “God, You have my heart,” if Netflix has our time, money has our loyalty, and fear has our decisions.
🔥Here’s my challenge
🔥Here’s my challenge
Family, if your heart feels far from God—don’t just try to change your feelings.
Change your treasure.
Start: Giving where God leads, Serving where God placed you, Loving who God sent, and Praying with your full heart
Your heart will follow your treasure—every single time.
🔑 “Where you put your treasure, your heart will follow. So put your treasure where you want your heart to grow.”
That’s God’s Economics: Invest in His Kingdom. Love His people. Treasure His truth. And your heart will follow.
God Bless You and Keep You Is My Prayer
