Play the Video
Acts 1:4–8 ESV
4 And while staying with them / he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, / but to wait for the promise/ of the Father, which, he said,/ “you heard from me; 5 for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized/ with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” 6 So when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” 7 He said to them, / “It is not for you to know times/ or seasons that the Father / has fixed by his own authority. 8 But you will receive power/ when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, / and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem/ and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
(1) Obedience brought the promise
Be patient in the waiting
Rest in the Waiting
Renewed Vision and Passions
40 days he appeared to his believers and followers
He gave many Convincing proofs that he had Resurrected
And he gives these instructions: Go to Jerusalem and (wait) for the promise
Jesus spoke of the gift through out his ministry
Luke 24:49 ESV
And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”
A word that was spoken, was now close to full-filament / Spoken words of the Lord may take time!
A word that was forgotten ~ (Lingered into this moment) /
Did not matter how long it (would take),/ They where ready! How Long? What will it Look Like? Sound Like?
We get impatient; We want to Transformation NOW…. FLOW)
With a reaffirming word ~ of the promise /(Clothed with Power) Power to save; Power to do Exceedingly
Slowwwwwwwwwwwww
God’s power comes to those who wait in faith and unity
Jesus is not making a suggestion—
He is issuing a command / backed by divine authority.
His power covers heaven and earth.
Philippians 2:9–11 – “At the name of Jesus every knee should bow…”
His word never comes back void!
What was Coming?
Pentecost (50 days after Passover) / was already a Jewish feast celebrating harvest/ and the giving of the Law.
Now, / it was going become/ the day of spiritual harvest/ and the giving of the Spirit. (FLOW)
SLOWWWWWWWW
Obedience, waiting/ and patient was going to bring the promise!
This promise ~ Hovered over the waters in Genesis;
He was the architect that designed the heavens and Earth
We seen his power move in the Old Testament as he empowered people Like Moses; Samson; David; Debra; Ester!
(2) Empowed to Witness
Before the Cross:
Many of Us did not have the Power to Change
Explanation: Jesus said, “You will receive power… and you will be my witnesses.
Acts 1:8 – “You will be my witnesses in Jerusalem… and to the ends of the earth.”
After the Promise, they were going to be unstoppable. / Who could Stop Jesus
(FLOW)
Application:
The Holy Spirit / isn’t just for spiritual gifts / it’s for spiritual courage.
You are empowered / to witness in your school,/ workplace, and family.
The Spirit empowers / us to boldly share Jesus with the world.
Where is your Jerusalem?
(3) The house was Filled with Fire
The house was ready/
2. The hearts where in line with heaven
3. There praise and worship was point, waiting for the promises
Acts 2:3–4 ESV
And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.
When the Holy Spirit fills the house, / He sets hearts on fire for the mission of God
A ripple affect occurs in one moment!
Purity – cleansing and refining their hearts.
Passion – igniting them with boldness and love for Jesus.
Power – enabling them to proclaim the gospel beyond their ability or language.
“Divided tongues as of fire / appeared to them / and rested on each one of them. / And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit…”
Illustration: The Holy Spirit fuels the Church. / Without Him, We Dont have the (Power)
Application:
God doesn’t want half-hearted believers—
He wants hearts on fire.
When the Spirit fills your life, you don’t just feel good—you move in power, speak with authority, and love without limits.
Let’s stand to our Feet:
If there is anyone who has never excepted Jesus as there Lord and Savior: Romans 10:9
Jesus said, “You will receive power… and you will be my witnesses.” After receiving the Holy Spirit, Peter—who once denied Jesus—stood up and preached to a crowd, resulting in 3,000 salvations.
The Church was birthed
He also said “Greater things you will do”
Do you want to see the lost found; the sick healed
Altar Call
Do you need a fresh Hunger of the Holy Spirit~ Come up to the Altar
Boldness to share your faith~
Do you feel like you don’t have the Power of the Holy Spirit~
