Have you ever WONDERED WHY we baptize people the way we do?
Today we’re going to WORK through 4 MAIN POINTS OF HOW WE’RE BAPTIZED, with some competitions throughout to find SCRIPTURE.
Scripture
Scripture
A PERSON IS BAPTIZED IN WATER - Acts 8:38
What we see in the BIBLE, is that people are BAPTIZED THROUGH FULL IMMERSION in WATER.
Baptism is that idea of FULL IMMERSION. THisi why we don’t SPRINKLE on people, but want to it as SCRIPTURE shows, and in a way that reflects what is happening.
A PERSON IS BAPTIZED BY SOMEONE ELSE - 1 Corinthians 1:15-16
What we see in PAUL’s example, and in the example all throughout ACTS - even in Jesus’ story is that people are BAPTIZED by SOMEONE ELSE.
You can’t baptize yourself! It happens when someone else does it for you…
A PERSON IS BAPTIZED WHILE OTHERS ARE WATCHING - Acts 2:41
BAPTISM IS PERSONAL, but NOT PRIVATE. It is meant to be a COMMUNITY THING.
We see here that it happens with other people watching.
It doesn’t have to be many people! Even one or two! But the testimony and power of the story is ENCOURAGING for the COMMUNITY!
A PERSON IS BAPTIZED IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER, SON, and HOLY SPIRIT. - Matthew 28:19-20
We don’t baptize in our name, or for our GLORY - but for GOD’s GLORY.
Jesus commanded that we baptism in his name - that’s why we do it this way!
You hear people say “I now baptize you in the name of the father son and holy spirit”
