Sermon Title and Outline
Salt and Light
Introduction - kyle and car - not to abolish but to fulfill
Salt
Israel was salt - sacrifical system
Light on top of hill
Israel has hidden their light
Apply - new covenant is here, show forth the good works of the kingdom
“You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet.
“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
You may be seated, and children you are free to go to your class. I pray the Lord would be with you as he is with us this morning.
Good morning church. We are two weeks into Pastor Kyle’s sabbatical, and the building is still standing. Amen. And I have finally found the perfect adjustment for his office chair, so I am doing great.
Now, this is a little bit embarrassing, but when I first got married so much changed in my life so quickly. Hannah and I moved into together and I felt like I had entered a whole new world. Our home was much more beautiful than the fraternity house I was living in before. We had cats, which was new to me. There were so many pillows, everywhere, I still to this day think they reproduce on their own. But the biggest change for me was the food. Before marriage I cooked three things, eggs - ground beef- and ramen. And I owned one condiment. hot sauce.
Now I had gone to restaurants and seen salt and pepper shakers on the table, but didn’t really know what they were for, and definitely didn’t know that you could buy those things at the store. And let me tell I learned that there are so many more spices than I even imagined. Food became such a more magical world,
Closing prayer
Almighty God, graciously grant that Your Word, which we have heard, may be inscribed inwardly on our hearts.
As we receive Your Word meekly with pure affection, may our hearts be filled with love and reverence for You.
Cause us to bear the fruit of the Spirit and to live in holiness, diligently following Your commandments.
And may it please You to use us to lead those who are lost, wandering, and confused into the way of truth.
All this we pray for the honor and praise of Your name, through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit reigns now and forever, age after age. Amen
