Psalm 23:5 “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You have anointed my head with oil; My cup overflows.”
PRAY
It is best, then, to think of the anointing with oil as a symbolic action. Anointing frequently symbolizes the consecration of persons or things for God’s use and service in the Old Testament.
Douglas J. Moo
God wants us to experience an overflowing life. Not a life or troubles and sorrow.
Yes. There will be those, but with Him, we can overcome our problems and enemies to have an overflowing life.
Imagine a child playing outside, having the best time of their life.
Imagine your wedding day or the day you got saved!
Pure Joy! God wants us to have this all of the time.
God Delights in You
Zephaniah 3:17 ““The Lord your God is in your midst, A victorious warrior. He will rejoice over you with joy, He will be quiet in His love, He will rejoice over you with shouts of joy.”
Rather than OUR Joy, lets first talk about GOD’S Joy in us.
The creator of all things. The One who made me and you wants us to have a joyful, overflowing life.
God, the Father of all things, sings, praises, and loves us. He is our warrior through it all.
What does it mean that God delights in us? Think about that each day.
When you feel let down, unworthy, less than, no good, etc. Just let the truth sink in. God delights in you and says the opposite!
God is the Source of Our Joy
Psalm 21:6 “For You make him most blessed forever; You make him joyful with the joy of Your presence.”
What does His Presence mean? It means He is with us always and we must acknowledge this every day and every moment of our lives.
Not just in Church, but in our travels, conversations, actions, cooking, reading, working, playing, and in the quite times.
As Christians, our joy can be found independent of external circumstances because God is the unchanging source of our Joy.
Praise Him daily, take time throughout the day to focus on the Joy He brings, and take time to meditate on His Word.
The Journey of Our Experience
John 10:10 “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came so that they would have life, and have it abundantly.”
God promises us not only a life of survival, but a life full of joy.
Satan wants to steal our joy, kill all hope, and destroy our ties with God.
Jesus wants the best for us. He wants us to not only have a life, but a life full of joy, peace, delight, confidence, etc.
We have to know the difference between Joy-Robbers and Joy-Givers. Think about what brings you real joy verses what drains your joy.
God gives us each a tool or gift. Think how you can use that to bring joy in your life and others.
Think of God’s guidance for your life as a gift and path to the real you, not as a burden.
Simple Joy in the Everyday Things
Psalm 19:1 “The heavens tell of the glory of God; And their expanse declares the work of His hands.”
We live too fast by half, we do too much and accomplish, therefore, too little.
Medicine For The Distracted, Volume 19, Sermon #1116 - Psalm 94:19
Charles Spurgeon
If all of creation praises and worships God, why can’t I?
God isn’t all about grand, huge examples of His power. Most of the time, it’s the small things He wants us to notice. Good food, friends, family, a pet, nature, rest, hobbies, etc.
The Heavens and Earth show His glory. We need to do the same since we are created by Him
These “mundane” things are truly miracles and gifts from God. Pay attention to them!
A Future Full of Hope and Joy
Psalm 16:11 “You will make known to me the way of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; In Your right hand there are pleasures forever.”
Earth is filled with joy and pleasures that God provides.
Think of how much more Heaven has to offer!
The joy and things here on Earth will pass away and diminish over time. What God offeres will be for eternity.
Be Kingdom Minded. Don’t live in this world, but keep your goals and focus on what comes next. It will last forever.
Share your testimony with others! Don’t keep His joy to yourself. Let others know the Lord we serve!
Romans 15:13 “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
If the Holy Ghost truly is in you, then you have a peace and joy about you that no lost soul has. This give you strength, hope, and power.
God truly is the God of Hope. Because of Him and what He has done for us, we should all have hope for a better tomorrow and eternity. A hope that says that we will overcome, we will not let the devil win, we will get passed this and be stronger because of it, and I know who holds my tomorrow!
