Acts 1:4–8 ESV
4 And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, “you heard from me; 5 for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” 6 So when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” 7 He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Acts 2:1–4 ESV
1 When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. 2 And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. 3 And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.

What is Pentecost?

It is the NT version of the Feast of Weeks from the Old Testament. It literally means “fiftieth” to commemorate 50 days after Passover when the law was given by Moses. But mostly it is a Harvest Festival that celebrates the Harvest Season.

Power and Purpose

Power to live Holy
Stand on truth
to be a witness
Power for life
Power for when all hell comes against you
power to pray
“When you don’t know what to pray…”

The WHOLE House

God fills us in whole, not in part
You don’t get to pick how much Holy Spirit you get
Its all or nothing

“What does this mean?”
2 Greek words expressing the two feelings in this one question
Eimi - “How is it possible?”
Thelo - “Desire for it”
Mocking “They are drunk”
Not everyone will accept this truth
Peter let them know
Acts 2:17-21
Whether they accept it or not don’t be ashamed of the power of God
Peter went on to preach the gospel and Acts 2:37 declares that when Peter preached the people were “cut or Pierced to the heart” and ran to an altar of repentance. in that one day 3,000 came to know Jesus.
There is a lost world out there that needs some believers to stand up under the power and influence of the Holy Spirit who will boldly declare who Jesus is.
Greek word for wind is the same word for breath
the breath of God blew into them so that it could blow back out of them and declare the word of the lord
That wind has never stopped blowing
