Romans 3:10-12, 23
Honor:
Pastor for the opportunity to give this highlight
Thankful for all who have gotten me to this moment!
I am beyond grateful to be able to be raised in a church that preaches Biblical truth. Everything that we do must be in alignment with this Bible that is without error and applicable to all that open it’s pages.

As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:

11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.

12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

Skip Down to verse 23

23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

I feel the Lord has given me clear direction on what to speak for just the next few minutes of this service. It is the theme of the service today; the title of my sermonette is 'The Power of Pentecost!'
Paul, writing under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, references Psalms 14 in this third chapter of the book of Romans. He says that there are none that are righteous, there are none that are in right standing with God. He also says that none do good!
God is communicating through Paul that we have not reached the standard that He has set. This is in direct result of the fall in the garden when man who was created in God’s image exalted themselves through their pride in the place of God. The temptation in the Garden of Eden was to be like God but this was completely against the creative order in which God had put into place.
There was to be this relationship between the creator and the creature in which God as the creator would be exalted above all but still want a relationship with His creation that He created in His image and His likeness. The problem was humanity directly disobeyed God by going against the natural order of creation. Humanity tried to take God’s throne instead of the throne that God was offering to them. Through this, sin entered the world plaguing all flesh.
Romans 5:19 KJV 1900
19 For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
It was man’s pride that introduced sin into the world. This continues even in our world today. We live in a world that does according to what the Bible would call, “What is right in their own eyes” instead of what God calls right.
Jeremiah 17:9 KJV 1900
9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
We cannot trust in our flesh, our own sinful nature but we need to look to God who has given us a way out of our sinful ways.
God through His grace saw His creation fail to obey the standard in which He set and instead of punishing them, He took every step He could to free humanity from their unrighteousness. God did not leave us in our sin but has given us the power to overcome what we had put upon ourselves through pride and disobedience. We can now receive deliverance, forgiveness of sins, salvation, and resurrection life because of what God has done through His mercy.
The question is how do you receive this new life, this power?
This power is the power that was prophesied in the book of Joel, that the Lord shall pour His spirit upon all flesh. This would begin to come to pass on the day of Pentecost when the disciples were gathered in the upper room and God began to pour out His spirit. This same spirit is available today to whoever needs it.
All the Lord needs of you is a heart that is humbly submitted to Him. God is asking for the very opposite of what occurred in the Garden. He is asking for humility. This is the only way you can receive what He wants to give but can’t give if your will or your plans are in opposition to Him.
I love this quote from A.W Tozier which says, “Our problem as Christians is we don’t want to take God as He is and change our lives accordingly”
Too many times we’ll pray that prayer of, “God I need you to give me the power to overcome what I am going through” but then we have a hard time giving up the very thing that is causing the sin.
Zechariah 4:6 KJV 1900
6 Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, Saith the Lord of hosts.
I tell you today that all God wants from us is to make ourselves available to Him. There is a blessing that comes in making ourselves available to Him. We no longer have to live our life depending upon our own strength, by our own might, or by our own power but we can put our life in God’s hands and allow His spirit to direct our paths. There is a pressure lifted when we can say “God I trust you with my life” and then genuinely mean it in our hearts. In our willingness to make our lives available, we are giving the Lord space to work.
Conclusion
There are many men and women in this place today who can attest to the power of the Holy Ghost’s work in their lives to overcome sickness, depression, guilt, and many other battles. Above all this power of Pentecost has given us the ultimate power and that is resurrection power. I am thankful for God who has offered this power of salvation and didn’t leave us contained to our unrighteousness.
In just a few moments we will see testimonies from this church of the Power they received through the Holy Ghost. These men and women had to reach the point where they made their lives available to God. They had enough of a life completely dependent upon themselves and they put their dependence upon God. It was at that point of complete dependence on God in their situation that they received the Power to overcome, the Power of Pentecost!
