A reminder
Why do we need a reminder ?
We go through life there are many distractions, we can over think things, we are weak, people in need of grace!
It is God’s grace that he provides times of refreshing reminders.
There is nothing like a refresher of doctrine from God’s word
I would even state that it was a a necessity to the early church.
2 Timothy 2:14 “14 Remind them of these things, and solemnly charge them in the presence of God not to wrangle about words, which is useless and leads to the ruin of the hearers.”
We can easily wrangle about things but not doctrine it is true it is God’s word
Some churches wrangle over words but for us what has been said is true
Wrangling over words

2 Peter 1:12–15 “12 Therefore, I will always be ready to remind you of these things, even though you already know them, and have been established in the truth which is present with you. 13 I consider it right, as long as I am in this earthly dwelling, to stir you up by way of reminder, 14 knowing that the laying aside of my earthly dwelling is imminent, as also our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me. 15 And I will also be diligent that at any time after my departure you will be able to call these things to mind.”
Refresher #1
Doctrine Matters
What is doctrine-
The body of teachings of the Christian faith concerning its central beliefs. Doctrine is grounded in Scripture and aims to maintain the integrity of Christianity by distinguishing it from non-Christian beliefs. Doctrine is of central importance in Christian preaching and teaching in that it equips the people of God for effective and faithful service in his world.
When Paul is writing to Timothy He guides him in truth. Of why doctrine matters
1 Timothy 1:3 “3 As I urged you upon my departure for Macedonia, remain on at Ephesus so that you may instruct certain men not to teach strange doctrines,”
It is for our instruction
There will be individuals in our community, on our social media and even in this church that will approach us all with strange doctrines, I am not going to go over what those may be, but I will say that there is an importance to coming to church and to joining our small groups, but also opening up the word your self and be a berean and ask questions to understand… not argue but understand!
Some of us would say this is a no brainer- but I believe what is happening is what Paul said would that there are strange doctrines creeping into the church.
This is why we teach verse by verse- precept upon precept! We will get there, join us stay diligent!
1 Timothy 1:18 “18 This command I entrust to you, Timothy, my son, in accordance with the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you fight the good fight,”
The christian life is a fight and God’s word is our greatest defense and our greatest tool in battle.
There is true power in the word of God.
It has transformed my thoughts, thoughts of fear, doubt, unbelief!
Christianity is not a way of life as distinguished from a doctrine, nor a way of life expressing itself in a doctrine, but a way of life founded upon a doctrine.
John Gresham Machen (American Presbyterian Apologist)
This leads us to our second refresher,
Refresher #2
Prayer must be our response
Unbalanced scale
1 Timothy 2:1–8 “1 First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, 2 for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. 3 This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony given at the proper time. 7 For this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying) as a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth. 8 Therefore I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and dissension.”
“Time of prayer to life of prayer”
Prayer is not something that I do; prayer is something that I am.
Warren W. Wiersbe
Prayer is a true reflection of humility that you and I need help
Help- expound, if you need help reach out
Matthew 11:29 “29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”

21  Churches can run without prayer. Whole denominations can run without prayer. The question is: Is what they’re doing worth doing if they can do it without prayer? Ben Patterson Deepening Your Conversation with God (1991)

Refresher #3
Godly leadership is a gift from God
1 Timothy 3:1 “1 It is a trustworthy statement: if any man aspires to the office of overseer, it is a fine work he desires to do.”
We were designed to be lead!
Creating us to be led God is the one who has given the qualifications.
It is a gift from God that He is clear who is a leader
God has set the standards they are not to be changed to appease our culture- God knows best and what is set for eternity!
But what we see in the qualifications of a leader is life change- we do not lay hands to quickly here, we need to see life change.
He will make it clear- you want to be a leader great, in your home, here, at work. The first two refreshers are continual in our lives.
Knowing it is from God that He calls men to leadership
Ephesians 4:11 “11 And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers,”
Have you ever had a bad boss, teacher, coach?
The Bible and prayer is the godly leaders priority!
Too many congregations have no purpose larger than to be an average church doing average things. That doesn’t require great leadership. It requires what I call “maintenance leadership.” It’s not building for the future.
Fred Smith
The outcomes are the Lords
Pursue righteousness
no longer pursuing wordly lusts
contentment
Matthew 6:19 “19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.”
Philippians 4:11 “11 Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am.”
As a church we will not force a situation
be patient
Philippians 2:12 “12 So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling;”
The grace of God is abounding in the life of a Godly leader
It began with grace it finishes with grace
Don’t neglect your gift
Refresher #4
God has done and is not done yet!
He has called us He will take us through
This is the Lords church and He has called us and is with us
It is not ours, we are His!
He is rescuing others from their sin
This is not an easy work yet He is with us
The death to self is not your work, it is God’s work.
Andrew Murray
2 Timothy 4:17 “17 But the Lord stood with me and strengthened me, so that through me the proclamation might be fully accomplished, and that all the Gentiles might hear; and I was rescued out of the lion’s mouth.”
Be obedient
Psalm 62:5–6 “5 My soul, wait in silence for God only, For my hope is from Him. 6 He only is my rock and my salvation, My stronghold; I shall not be shaken.”
Application: How do I apply this to my life
Let God’s word transform your life
From a time of prayer to a life of prayer
Godly leadership leads to Godly surrender
Don’t quit trusting the Lord
