Way of the Master Advanced - Recognizing Satan’s Influence
Are there times that you do not share the Gospel due to fear of what someone else thinks?
2. Do you think Satan has any influence on heavy metal rock music?
3. Do you think that sort of music carries a message? If so, what?
4. How does scripture describe Satan?
5. Do you think that the average person believes there is a thing as “evil”? What about a literal devil?
6. What were your beliefs  in this respect, before you were converted?
7. Do you think that you can genuinely be saved and yet deny the existence of Satan?
8. What is the main message of the Satanic Bible? How has this same mindset infiltrated the church?
9. Explain how the modern gospel distorts the picture given in the parable of the Prodigal Son.
10. Why do you think so many professing Christians are more concerned about what they can get from God than they are about what they can do for Him?

Deeper Study:
Most people naturally claim that they don’t worship or serve Satan. According to the following verses, in what ways can individuals be influenced to do Satan’s will without know it?
1 Chronicles 21:1 ESV
Then Satan stood against Israel and incited David to number Israel.
John 13:2 ESV
During supper, when the devil had already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray him,
John 13:27 ESV
Then after he had taken the morsel, Satan entered into him. Jesus said to him, “What you are going to do, do quickly.”
Acts 5:3 ESV
But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back for yourself part of the proceeds of the land?
1 Corinthians 10:19 ESV
What do I imply then? That food offered to idols is anything, or that an idol is anything?
1 Corinthians 10:20 ESV
No, I imply that what pagans sacrifice they offer to demons and not to God. I do not want you to be participants with demons.
How pervasive is Satan’s influence over unbelievers – whether they’re aware of it or not?
John 8:44 ESV
You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires.
2 Timothy 2:26 ESV
and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will.
1 John 5:19 ESV
We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.
Going through the Moral Law will help sinners see how they’re reflecting the traits of their father, the devil, and do his will. What family resemblance can be seen if they’ve broken the following Commandments?
If they have told a lie (John 8:44)
John 8:44 ESV
You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
If they have stolen anything (John 10:10)
John 10:10 ESV
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.
If they have hatred towards anyone (John 8:44
John 8:44 ESV
He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him.
John 10:10 ESV
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.
What are the “snares” the devil sets for mankind? Read 1 John 2:16 and list the three categories of temptations.
1 John 2:16 ESV
For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world.
According to Genesis 3:6, how did Satan tempt Eve (and Adam) in these ways?
Genesis 3:6 ESV
So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate.
Read Luke 4:1-13. How did Satan tempt Jesus in these same ways?
Luke 4:1–13 ESV
And Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness for forty days, being tempted by the devil. And he ate nothing during those days. And when they were ended, he was hungry. The devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread.” And Jesus answered him, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone.’ ” And the devil took him up and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time, and said to him, “To you I will give all this authority and their glory, for it has been delivered to me, and I give it to whom I will. If you, then, will worship me, it will all be yours.” And Jesus answered him, “It is written, “ ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.’ ” And he took him to Jerusalem and set him on the pinnacle of the temple and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here, for it is written, “ ‘He will command his angels concerning you, to guard you,’ and “ ‘On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.’ ” And Jesus answered him, “It is said, ‘You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’ ” And when the devil had ended every temptation, he departed from him until an opportune time.
Hebrews 4:15 tells us that Jesus was tempted in all points that we are, but was VICTORIOUS. How does Luke say Jesus was able to overcome temptation?
Hebrews 4:15 ESV
For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.
