THE ROAD TO EMMAUS – WHEN REVELATION COMES IN THE BREAKING
Pentecost is about OUTPOURING, FIRE, AND TRANSFORMATION. But before the wind rushed in, before tongues of fire fell, there was a journey—a quiet moment, a conversation, a deep longing for understanding.
Two disciples walked THE ROAD TO EMMAUS, wrestling with QUESTIONS, GRIEF, AND SHATTERED HOPE. Jesus Himself came alongside them, speaking, teaching, revealing—but still, THEY DID NOT RECOGNIZE HIM.
They listened. Their hearts burned. But it was NOT IN THE TEACHING OR THE CONVERSATION THAT THEY SAW HIM—IT WAS IN THE BREAKING OF BREAD.
LUKE 24:30-31 (NKJV)
"Now it came to pass, as He sat at the table with them, that He took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them. Then their eyes were opened and they knew Him; and He vanished from their sight."
How many times have we walked through seasons of UNCERTAINTY, SORROW, OR UNANSWERED PRAYERS, not realizing that JESUS HAS BEEN BESIDE US ALL ALONG?
How often do we search for understanding, yet it is NOT UNTIL WE COME TO THE TABLE, UNTIL WE BREAK THE BREAD, THAT WE TRULY SEE HIM?
HE IS KNOWN TO US IN THE BREAKING.
THE BREAD & THE CUP – A COVENANT THAT REVEALS HIM
The disciples on THE ROAD TO EMMAUS did not recognize Jesus by His voice, nor by His presence—but BY HIS HANDS BREAKING THE BREAD. This moment was not random—it was HOLY, INTENTIONAL, DEEPLY SIGNIFICANT
When Jesus first sat with His disciples, He TOOK THE BREAD, BROKE IT, AND GAVE IT—not as tradition, but as A PROPHETIC ACT OF REDEMPTION.
LUKE 22:19-20 (NKJV)
"This is My body, which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me… This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you."
To BREAK BREAD is to enter into COVENANT, REMEMBRANCE, RENEWAL.
To DRINK THE CUP is to receive CLEANSING, COVERING, AND COMMUNION WITH HIM.
At this Table, we do NOT - JUST REMEMBER WHAT HE DID—WE SEE HIM FOR WHO HE IS.
We come, not merely to reflect, but to ENTER INTO THE REVELATION OF HIS PRESENCE.
He is MADE KNOWN TO US IN THE BREAKING OF THE BREAD—in the moments of SURRENDER, IN THE PLACES OF DEEP TRUST, IN THE COVENANT OF FELLOWSHIP WITH HIM.
FROM COMMUNION TO REVELATION – THE FIRE THAT IGNITES US
When the disciples FINALLY SAW JESUS, their entire perspective changed. They ran WITH URGENCY, telling others what had happened.
LUKE 24:35 (NKJV)
"And they told about the things that had happened on the road, and how He was known to them in the breaking of bread."
HE IS REVEALED TO US IN THE BREAKING.
It is when we break away from SELF-RELIANCE, break away from FEAR, break away from DOUBT, that we SEE HIM CLEARLY.
Communion is NOT JUST REMEMBRANCE—IT IS ENCOUNTER.
It is where OUR BLINDED EYES ARE OPENED, WHERE OUR HEARTS BURN, WHERE REVELATION BREAKS THROUGH.
THE TABLE FUELS THE FIRE – THE FLAME MUST NOT DIE
LEVITICUS 6:13 (NKJV)
"A fire shall always be burning on the altar; it shall never go out."
This was not just a duty for the priests—it is a spiritual principle.
Communion is FUEL.
Remembrance is FUEL.
Returning to the Table again and again keeps the flame alive
If we neglect the Table, if we forget the sacrifice, if we treat communion as routine rather than holy encounter, our fire can fade, our passion can dim, our hearts can grow distant.
That is why the flame must not die.
That is why we must continue to partake, to remember, to draw near.
That is why Pentecost fire must be sustained by the Table—so that we burn brighter, stronger, deeper in love with Jesus than ever before.
Pentecost ignites the flame, but communion KEEPS IT BURNING.
We PARTAKE TODAY not as an act of routine, but TO KEEP THE FIRE ALIVE.
We do NOT MERELY RECEIVE—WE RESPOND.
We do NOT SIMPLY EAT AND DRINK—WE ENCOUNTER HIM IN IT.
THE CALL IS TO – APPROACH WITH HUMILITY, HUNGER, & EXPECTATION
1 CORINTHIANS 10:16 (NKJV) )(Slow Down this is a question)
"The cup of blessing which we bless, is it NOT the communion of the blood of Christ?"
SO,
LET US NOT COME CASUALLY, BUT REVERENTLY.
LET US NOT PARTAKE PASSIVELY, BUT WITH DEEP HUNGER.
LET US NOT TREAT THIS AS ROUTINE, BUT AS SACRED ENCOUNTER.
May we STAND and Join together in this
DECLARATION – AND reflecting BETWEEN BREAD & WINE,
THE BREAD – HIS BODY BROKEN FOR US
LORD, AS WE LIFT THIS BREAD, WE REMEMBER YOUR SACRIFICE.
YOUR BODY GIVEN FOR US, BRUISED FOR US, BROKEN FOR US.
LET EVERY BLINDNESS BE REMOVED—MAY OUR EYES BE OPENED TO YOUR GLORY.
LET REVELATION COME! LET TRANSFORMATION BEGIN!
(🎵 Allow a pause, a moment of reflection before eating the bread.)
THE CUP – HIS BLOOD SHED FOR US
LORD, AS WE DRINK THIS CUP, WE REMEMBER YOUR COVENANT.
YOUR BLOOD, POURED OUT FOR MERCY, FOR REDEMPTION, FOR ETERNAL GRACE.
LET US NEVER TAKE LIGHTLY THE GIFT WE HOLD, THE LIFE YOU GAVE.
MAY OUR HEARTS BE HUMBLED, OUR DEVOTION UNWAVERING.
(🎵 Allow a moment of reverence before drinking the wine.)
LORD, LET OUR REMEMBRANCE BE HOLY,
LET OUR GRATITUDE BE DEEP,
LET OUR HEARTS BE FULLY YOURS,
NOW AND FOREVER.
AMEN!
