Sunday Morning Sermon June 8, 2025
Subject: A New House On An Old Spot.
Scripture Text: Matthew 7:24-27
24. Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
25. And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
26. And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: 27. And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.
Introduction: I want to tell you all the story of the “The Three Little Pigs”. I’m sure most of you have heard this story before, but humor me for just a little bit while I tell to you again.............please........HERE WE GO !
Once upon a time where were 3 little pigs.....now these pigs could walk on two legs......they could speak very fluently and they also had a very unique way of communicating with other animals such as wolves.......and especially THE BIG BAD WOLF!
Now., just so we don’t get mixed up on which Little Pig is which, let’s see about giving them names:
Little Pig Number 1: Moe Jr..
Little Pig Number 2: Percy
Little Pig Number 3: Jackson
They all got together one morning after breakfast and decided that it was about time for them to leave mommy pig (Irene). Mommy pig was not to keen on the idea of her boys leaving the barnyard. She really thought that they really ought to talk to daddy pig Moe Sr. So, they gathered out in the barnyard to have a little talk with Daddy (Moe Sr.) Daddy pig thought for a minute and decided that If they wanted to give it a try that he would indeed let them. “But boys”, he said, you really better take doing this seriously......there’s so much you don’t know about living without mommy and daddy......there are many dangers out there, such as a BIG BAD WOLF that really likes bacon and ham and pork chops. You really need to think all of this through.
They must have given it some thought because the next week Moe Jr said to mommy pig “I’m leaving right after breakfast and going to go and seek my fortune.......mommy fretted around, shed a few tears . After blowing her nose....got up a lunch for Moe Jr and sent him on his way. He got over to the next town to the east and saw a man that had a load of straw......Hey mr man, can you spare enough of this straw so I can build me a house to live in.....Are you sure you want to use straw said the man....I don’t know if it’s stable enough.....I’ve seen it done before by the birds that have been in my barnyard......Well ok.....here you go. The man gave Moe enough straw to build a little bungalo. Moe worked and worked on it and finally got it all done. He went inside and sat down to eat the lunch mommy pig, Irene had made for him. It wasn’t long and Moe started to feel like something’s wrong.......Looked out of the window and low and behold there was the BIG BAD WOLF coming up the road.......his nose was in the air like....I think I smell my supper here......A nice ham and cheese sandwich....with some mayo and mustard would taste mighty good......LITTLE PIG, Little Pig, let me come in.....Moe Jr was frightened and nervously said....Not by the hair of my chinny chin chin.........then I’ll Huff and I’ll Puff and I’ll BLOW YOUR HOUSE down and so he did just that....but the little pig escaped and got back to the barnyard safe and sound.....
A couple days later.....Percy comes to both Mom and Dad.......and says to them almost identical to Moe Jr.’s speech......and then goes out to seek his fortune......with lunch in hand he leaves the barnyard ......and wit wasn’t long before he saw the same man who had had the straw with a load of branches and twigs.… (the story).........Hey Mr. Man...........
This scared them all so bad....but about two weeks passed by.....and Jackson goes to mommy and daddy with much the same speech that was given by his brothers and says.....it’s time for me to go and see about seeking my fortune.....mommy has fixed him a lunch and very reluctantly bids him farewell........Jackson goes down the road and he sees this same man, but this time he has a load of bricks....after talking awhile there’s enough bricks given to Jackson for him to build a fine brick ranch with 4 bedrooms, two baths and a fireplace and a chimney, too. On with the story, please. That Big Bad Wolf could not resist.........I’ll Huff and I’ll Puff, and I’ll blow your house down.......ETC.
Our text says about the house built upon the sand...........what happened when adversity came..........great was the fall of that house
The house that is built upon the rock...........what happened when adversity came upon that house...../.The Word says it stood firm.
We must build our house(s) on the solid rock Jesus.......when it’s built upon the foundation of the Apostles and Prophets, Jesus Himself being the chief cornerstone.......No Big Bad Wolf can huff or puff enough for your house to ever be destroyed.
I ASK YOU RIGHT NOW...,..WHAT IS YOUR HOUSE BUILT ON? HOW STRONG IS YOUR HOUSE WHEN ADVERSITY COMES? IS YOUR HOUSE SOUNDED UPON THE ROCK, CHRIST JESUS? HAVE YOU BUILT IT ON THE PRINCIPLES OF GOD......THE WORD THAT WILL NEVER FALTER OR FAIL.
ALTAR CALL FOR ANY AND ALL THAT WANT AND NEED TO PRAY.
Sometimes we get comfortable on the old spot(s) that we’re living on.......get ready to build on a new spot........having everything built brand new on that new spot.....forgetting those things which are behind.......looking for the better things that are just ahead, right over the next hill and/or the next horizon.............It’s up to you......it’s your decision........make the right choices.......You’ll be so glad that you did!
