Introduction- Lust is a sin of the heart. It is a very dangerous sin because it is usually tied to sexual desire. And sexual desire is a part of our nature as creatures. And in the right context, that is, between a husband and wife, it is a wonderful gift from the Lord. Lust is a powerful. And when it is fed it grows into a life-dominating sin. At it most basic lust is
What is Lust?
Matthew 5:27–28 (ESV) 27 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ 28 But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
Our Lord Jesus goes straight to the point and makes it clear to us that lust is a condition of one’s heart and here is it associated with the sin of adultery.
1 Thessalonians 4:3–5 (ESV) 3 For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality; 4 that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor, 5 not in the passion of lust like the Gentiles who do not know God;
The Apostle Paul makes is clear by contrast lust is passion that leads to lack of control of one’s body, and that it is opposed to holiness and honor.
Lust is the very seed bed of sin and death is lust.
James 1:14–15 (ESV) 14 But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. 15 Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.
Lust vs. Temptation
Lust is a sinful desire within us. Temptation could be either a sinful desire from within us, or a circumstance in which we find ourselves. ?
The Bible teaches us to flee sexual temptation, but we are to put to death
