Introduction

If you have your Bibles, you can open them to Daniel chapter 10. This morning we begin a three parts series evaluating the Final Vision that will get us to the end of the book of Daniel. This morning we will focus on chapter 10, next week chapter 11, and the our final week in Daniel we will focus on chapter 12.

Body

(1) Daniel’s Desperation
a. His Discipline
i. Fasting (v.2)
II. Praying (v. 12)
III. Reading (Dan 9:2)
b. His Desire
I. Understanding
Application:
Often times, this is what we want as Christians, we want discipline and we want understanding, but the problem is is that we are not desperate enough for it. We want Acts 4-7 boldness and understanding without Acts 2:42-47 discipline. They were willing to do whatever it took to grow in their understanding.
The reality is there is no excuse to be an undiscipline Christian in the year 2025 in NW MS. We have 24/7 access to the scriptures, to the Father in prayer through our mediator Jesus Christ, access to climate controlled vehicles that brings us to a climate controlled meeting place.
Here is the thing brothers and sisters, understanding and discipline are two things that grow with one another, the more you grow in discipline the more understanding you will have of God and his purpose (theology), and the more understanding you have, the greater your desire for discipline will be for more understanding.
(2) Daniel’s Posture
a. At the sight of Jesus
*Compare Daniel 10:5-6 with Revelation 1:12-16
i. No strength
ii. Appearance fearfully changed
b. At the sound of Jesus
i. Deep sleep with face to the ground (c.f. Rev. 1:17)
Application:
Sometimes I believe we are a little too lax when we try and get into the presence of God. I think this stems from a one sided theology (understanding of God), that doesn’t leave any room for fear and trembling. The church has robbed many people by only focusing on God as either a sovereign ruler worthy of fear (which he is), or focusing on the fatherly, friendly, and loving God (which he is), but remember brothers and sisters, our relation dynamic does not diminish God’s royalty, holiness, and power. We are indeed children of God, friends of Jesus, and brothers and sisters to Jesus, but never forget, even the friend, child, and sibling to the King is still expected to bow in awe reverence that is due him.
This is why churches have weak services (concerts, affirmations, etc.), their theology is incomplete.
c. At the command of Jesus
i. Stand up
II. Strengthened
III. Speak
(3) Israel’s Protection
a. The God of Heaven
b. The Commander of the Lord’s Army (Jesus)
c. Michael the Chief Angel
Application:
How could this impact your prayer life, knowing that what you are praying for in the physical also correlates to that which is happening in the spiritual realm? This is why I think so many Christians fall so easily into temptation and sin, because they have a weak defense that stems from a weak prayer life.
Ephesians 6:10–12 CSB
Finally, be strengthened by the Lord and by his vast strength. Put on the full armor of God so that you can stand against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this darkness, against evil, spiritual forces in the heavens.
Ephesians 6:18 CSB
Pray at all times in the Spirit with every prayer and request, and stay alert with all perseverance and intercession for all the saints.
