King James Version Chapter 5
Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth? 8 This persuasion cometh not of him that calleth you.
So how did we get here to Galatians 5 verse 7 -8 in particular. To understand that we must have to tell what happened before that lead to those questions
The first six verses
Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. 2 Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing. 3 For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law. 4 Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace. 5 For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith. 6 For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love. 7 Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth? 8 This persuasion cometh not of him that calleth you. 9 A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.
Paul is writing here and he began the chapter 5 by speaking, lifting them up reminding them of the works of Christ and the plan of salvation that they believed and recieved. Paul reminds the Galatians of the of what Jesus did on the Cross and the redemptive work of the cross. Paul goes on to remind the Galatians how salvation is by grace thru faith and not of works. This is when he is talking about circumcision in particular. their submitting to circumcision, and depending on the works of the law for righteousness, were an implicit contradiction of their faith as Christians and a forfeiture of all their advantages by Jesus
. Galatians were being reminded of acts of the Law that were to redeem them and that it was an obligation. and What Paul is telling them is that if you just do the circumcision alone you are then bound to the whole Law. The Jews wanted them back under the bondage of the Law. They did not see Jesus as the Messiah who come to save all from sin. Under the gospel we are brought into a state of liberty, wherein we are freed from the yoke of the ceremonial law and from the curse of the moral law; so that we are no longer tied to the observance of the one, nor tied up to the rigour of the other, which curses every one that continues not in all things written therein to do them
.Make the decision are you going back under the law or are going to continue in faith believing in the redemptive work of Jesus dying on the cross for your sins. you can’t be trying to do both Jesus and the Law. Which explains how verse 9 - a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.
Question:
Do you have faith and believe in the Finished work of the Cross?
So What is the “Finished work of the Cross? Thru the finished work of the cross Jesus bridged the gap between God and humanity caused by sin (which began in the Garden of Eden), defeated death (when he rose from the grave and then revealed is resurrected self to the disclples) and made salvation and eternal life available to all who believe in him. Cross reference scripture to this John 3:16
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
The Cross was God’s plan for Jesus to redeem us from sin The Law was too much for them and us to accomplish and do for salvation. God’s plan was for then and now. Imagine Jesus dying for your sins then over 2000 years for today in 2025. And it takes faith to believe that this plan of salvation is for you and everybody today. God knew we needed a Savior because we will always fall short with the Law.
When Jesus died on the cross, He took upon Himself the punishment that we deserved for our sins. Isaiah 53:5
5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: The chastisement of our peace was upon him; And with his stripes we are healed.
and that scripture shows how the process that Jesus went through for the total restoration of man. Wounds for transgressions, Bruised for iniquities, punished for our peace and stripes for pur healing….and this was leading to the cross. On his way to the cross. Every step Jesus took to the cross had purpose.
So after hearing all that was accomplished with God’s plan of salvation thru His son Jesus and the finished work of the Cross For Once and For All- How and Why would you go back to the Bondage of the Law = What HIndered You from the Truth. I can only imagine and hear Paul saying why are you listening to folks who want to keep you in bondage and ritual…when Jesus Paid it All. 2 Corinthians 5:21
21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
Again you see in the word, we are the Righteousness of God thru Jesus. Its all in Jesus. Cant go over him, cant go around…You must go thru Jesus.
Which brings me to my next point. Dont Believe the lie. The lie of “there are many ways to God” Here is the truth from the Bible. John 14:6
6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
and there are other scriptures that share the same truth.
like John 10:1
1 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.
Its Jesus alone. There is no need for additives and Mixing.
No need for Jesus and Burning sage
No need for Jesus and crystals
No need for Jesus and chakras
No need for Jesus and your rabbits foot
No need for Jesus and Mysticism
No Mixing Needed
No dilution
Jesus doesnt need help or additives. He rose with All Power. God has All Power
Remember Galatians 5:9
9 A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.
Its either all Jesus or something else you agree to bind you and you think its the plan of salvation.
So I ask the question What hindered you from obeying the Truth.
It is the lies that derail and distract
We must be in our Word to read the Truth and respond to lies with the truth of God’s word
We must pray for our mind and get closer to God in communication in prayer. Let him hear your voice and you learn and get accustomed to hearing His voice in prayer. As you strengthen that muscle of prayer as we talked about last week, you will be accustomed to Gods voice and the voice of a stranger or error you will not follow.
You will be sounding like Jesus and responding with “It Is Written….”
There may be someone who don’t know Jesus or you have been battling with committing to Jesus. Listen Jesus laid the foundation and opened up the way. The way to eternal life, to abundant life, to healing and wholeness
What more can he do?
I say it is time for you to do! Make the first step to receiving Jesus as your Lord and Savior. Is there one who wants to receive Jesus today. Whether you are in -person or the Cyber-sanctuary I offer Jesus to you today. We are ready to pray with you and lead you to Jesus.
Is there one on today?
Prayer of Salvation
Dear Lord Jesus,
I believe that You are the Son of God. I believe that You came to Earth. You lived and You died on the cross. You shed Your blood. They buried You and for three days, You remained in the grave, but on the third day, God raised You from the dead and today You are alive forever more. Jesus, I believe this and I receive You as my Lord, and as my Savior. I ask that You forgive me of my sins and with that I thank You Lord for forgiving me of all my sins.
Thank You Lord for saving me. Right now I am saved
