Places to go after that. That story was encouraging and uplifting to me so that I can draw. Thank you.

I almost wasn't sure what I was here, as I said. And I are you telling me that you wrote in your book? 27 apparently, so like that is just crazy.

This several years ago and it happened on the Christian Pentecost, write like with the nation's coming in, right? We had trouble with the week before and you Christian Pentecost last week which is still celebrating the same exact thing. And in the shuffle with past, I have actually lined up the international people in this congregation appear and it was not a random. We could be 12 people who are international, you don't recognize it. There was a man in his family who came to visit last week from Union, pretty far away. He said, his name was Andy and I was telling you, actually, there's quite a bit more diversity here than you realize. Does a person's Korean that person is from the Bahamas that person over there is for Macedonia you know on Hell represents Dr, right? Like I swear you just did that, sorry about that. She's German, you know, we're all from somewhere but we're not all like first generation from somewhere, you know, where second but we have a lot of those people in this congregation You know, we do. We actually do. Because this is the kingdom of God. this is, You sure has message for the net for the nation's. This is, this is the missionaries of God for the world. And so I love this car gation for that particular reason. And I was expressing to him even today as I was looking around during the story, 10% Of the people in the room were representing or close to representing another cultural or ethnic persuasion. Yeah, yeah, my family is probably German and scots-irish here. We all represent something, but

But this congregation has so many people, we just take it for granted. There's other diversity is here too, but that I think is really unique that is very Appropriate. It's the Messianic kingdom is what it is.

The other direction I could have gone, which I guess I will now. To is the Father's Day videos. I don't know, something about them and I speak as a father, they don't quite hit the mark, for me, it's a little too sappy and like two positive. I think in the past I've given like Father's Day encouragement from the spot, I was like, all right. Father's Day. Yeah. That's all you're going to get way to go. Just just keep going. That's about as much as you know and I had a Father's Day moment. This morning that was just terrible if we could have filmed the whole thing and shown it up there, you would be mortified or laughing at me for the way. I was stopping around and yelling at my kids and my daughter said, my hair was flopping around and I was marching like, like this is comedian comedian. We like to watch and they started like giggling at me while I'm so frustrated and angry this very morning. so I watched those videos and all the great things that you do, and I'm just like,

you know what, whatever I'll just wake up tomorrow and Try be different.

So the sermon really hits home.

Because as Doug focused on the 13, after abuse of God, or the 13 me to do. I this whole week focused on the 13 attributes of God, describes himself. I think of a person's going to describe insects do this fun. Exercise you tell everybody else what you're like Tell me, do you highlight the positive things? Maybe you were. So self-aware, you mentioned the negative things to But in our seder, this week, we have the god of the universe deciding who described himself for others to hear.

To listen to it. he says about himself because if you ask the average person on the street, who doesn't know God or like, God has no good relationship with God, not really interested in a relationship, describe God for me, It would not be like the wind God describes himself. So, where is the problem? Where is the disconnect? If he's going to put them oh s*** in the cleft of The Rock and pass on by and say all right motion picture of what I'm like, you just ask for it, you want a picture? Here we go. I'm going to put you in the class and they just said it was. The opening was as Tiny as I have needle and I will put them in the club and I'm about to pass by and I'm going to pronounce exactly what I'm like. She should listen. and he says,

every part of me is forgiveness and grace and mercy that's what he describes there.

The core of who I am, is forgiveness, and mercy and Grace.

Acknowledged where you're wrong and seek me, I'm supremely forgiving and merciful and gracious.

That's not what the average person on the street, Mike Fink.

When she asks, who are you? I got and got answers to listen to it. Did you happen to film? What I did this morning? Did you film that? Cuz I was offering if you showed it up there but everybody would really get a good laugh. No, you didn't film it next time.

This is the end of last day. Turn Exodus. 33 music is like yeah we just had this incident and his people is really hard to deal with. And you said, you were going to store to stay with. You better go with us for for reals. No, intermediary. Like you got to go with us and if you give me was really hard tasks, can I know you a little bit more. If it is really the case that I have found favor in your sight, you need to show me your ways so that I will understand you a little bit better. He's had some amazing Revelations of God and yet he still is asking. I really don't think I have a great handle on exactly what you like.

So that I I want to continue finding favor in your sight more over. Keep on seeing this nation is your people. I want to get back to the good before the calf. I got to know what you like. And he says, okay, we'll go back up. And I will pass until the beginning of this week. He passes in front

You pay Bob and hey to send it in the cloud but not fully right? He's wrapped cheese wraps. He still clouded and even that is brilliant, he wraps himself, he still is concealing some of them sell and he passes through our passes by and there he pronounced the name.

For hundreds of years, even thousand plus years, the Jewish stages have said, it's like they. They found 13 different aspects of God in there if it will. Look at those today. We're really only going to be in Exodus 34 today. Okay. So we have these other passages linked with the talleys Evan rock or stone and bleach a covenant or on a covenant. Of course it's always an agreement between parties. And agreement. He had to make the new tablets of stone and then they were going to write on them while she was going to do it or motion got together, we're going to do it or what she was going to do it at God's instruction for God, did it himself?

Do you use the same picture on the left there that I did? I think in his talk this morning his this is relaxed left to me, but Anyways, there's a couple artist, renderings of this, is this one Fire coming from the other side or up. I don't know, the forest has got himself passes and will chase. Maybe wondering if this is a good idea. I requested this. I don't think he's going to kill himself in a cloud. And the Lord God passed before him and proclaimed. And then there's a repetition at the front. As we'll see you in a minute, you could in the Hebrew, take it that, you have out, he proclaimed and he only said it once you could take it that way, but that's not how most interpreters. Take it. Most translators of the text and interpreters that. He he pronounced the Divine name twice in a row.

God, merciful and gracious, slow to anger, founding and steadfast love and faithfulness. What we'll do with all this more in just a second. Love housing for Generations, forgiving iniquity and transgression sin children to the third and fourth generation when I get hung up there at the end. And what does that mean? And how the hell just to visit iniquity? Three generations. I think there's a contrast it's supposed to strike you is the juxtaposition of these 3, + 4 is really short compared to thousands.

Yeah, that's the thing that's supposed to stick out.

So, ask Doug mention, as I mentioned earlier in like, short speech, these are called the 13 attributes. Are the 13 me. Do the, the way God describe himself is chopped up into separate. They're not names, but their aspects of God, and even these are not all of them. As you see from my slide at the end, this description of himself is not exhaustive. Exhaustive description of himself. At this point there is still more revelation of motion will be seeking through the months in the years and the decades He doesn't give him an exhausted, but if he's going to describe himself, I think we should listen to it.

Is how one true God describes himself? No, you may not described in this way. The price on the street like that described in this way, but he's describing himself this way. Okay, so I would really encourage you to incorporate this description until yours is scription of him. The next time he makes himself

He's highlighting particular things. Just like, you would, when you go to describe yourself, but he's not trying to, maybe he's not trying to obscure who he is too much. He's trying to explain.

The sages have seen something else in this description, but I'd like to introduce to you. It's not just a description of who he is or what he's like, the sages have always viewed. This, as a teaching, lesson on how to receive forgiveness from God.

Actually, teaching me how to supplicate. He's teaching Moshi how to seek forgiveness. Like the people just did the golden calf thing and so at this moment would know, she's wondering is the whole thing off. Are you really going to try to start with me or as, as we see the story unfold, he's a, here's what I'm really like. And when big sends happen and you need to come back to me, here's the rubric for coming back to me.

Remind me but really remind yourself. Really remind yourself what I like I'll tell you what, I'm like keeping in mind, this is actually what I'm like. Is it died actiq? Lesson on how to supplicate. We're going to go through this specifically so I'm not going to be here. Also, or time is Route is really when I should be finishing. So we're going to Go through and begin here at the very beginning Doug mentioned. I'm glad he did. The Divine name is is twice Might be one of them is the Lord God proclaimed, but most translators don't take it that way. Your sages, don't take it that way. They see it as a repetition of the Divine name. Lot about the Divine name recently. I really believe it's the fever. So, yeah, you can keep that in mind but but really, this is

Not.

If he was really going to say, I am I on, he would have said it differently. If you would have said it in the way that he told Moshe at the bush that burned. But didn't burn up, right? That's how he would have said it. He said so this is not an exit is jumping back to Exodus 3 when they're at the bush. Ellie's at the music. Yeah, yeah, I will be what I will be.

Thought I just exist. And you can go tell Sarah, were the people has sent me to you so he's kind of almost claiming at. Yeah, if you didn't come to our shovel with teaching or all-nighter at Frank's, I kind of mentioned and maybe if you didn't come to houses are, so you didn't hear either. The first person uses indirect speech, is the first woman. He's the one who first said you'd hey, Bob. Hey, he is, I have received a man-child from the one who is he is, And I think this is my quack Theory, I think I kind of liked it, and so, he took it for himself. I just exist. So he begins to use this word. Hey, it's the beaver. But if you remember what Doug said, the sages as I've looked at this, I've tried to give an explanation.

And one of the explanation state that they see in this repetition of the name is, look how gracious God is. He's the same. He's just the first one is how he is with his nature is like before a great sin the second one is what he like after great sin that you might say, wow, that's a real stretch on the text there and that's fine. You can say that, but it does give you a window into how Jewish people's saw their God and what he would, they might think he's trying to say here. Gate to all of these deal with some Modern explanations of this. These 13 me. They are not necessarily exactly what God is trying to say. They are an explanation. Some people in the Jewish World, think God is trying to say here and I will say all of them are related to Mercy and Grace and every single one of them.

The first one is the modern explanation is his nature before a great sin. He's this way. And after a great then he's the same side encounter that this morning, right?

His nature not changing.

Heads up.

The second thing as he continues. Youth Haven. Hey you Dave Alvin a l Of course, is short form for Elohim. God. But in this case, the explanation is not that this is the powerful. Might he justified of God, because in the traditional Jewish explanation, that is how the name breaks down the, you take off his the compassionate side of God. And this girl named comes with the more Justice judgment side of God, but not here. Not here, here in this explanation of how big a forgiver he is. This Elle is reminding you that even in his might, he is forgiving He has great ability. To be just but here he's forgiving that demonstrates a certain power do understand to be forgiving of big things. Demonstrate, smite. Have you ever forgiven a big thing to someone else? That demonstrates might and power a nest explanation. Here is big and mighty and just an inside of that, he's able to forgive big things like the golden cat. So we have three so far.

Four and five on the slide rock whom the Moon. Compassionate and gracious. I mentioned this first word raccoon. Sometimes it goes merciful in the translation. It is the word that creates the word womb in for a woman, right?

so however, you think of a woman treasuring, the thing inside of her that is this word raccoon compassionate. This is God. Compassionate. Describing himself kanoon gracious. The word Grace comes gets built office where Shan It's all the things that you think of.

Merciful and compassionate. And gracious, all of those things. What is?

the sages said, Where is this one? Go?

The first one is for people who may have really no reason to be treated kindly. They use a turmeric a lot, right? You do some good things up. Some Merit. Their explanation is this raccoon is a characterizes God in his, kindness towards people who really don't deserve it at all.

And the second one is more for people who have built up some are they done some good things? I'm just laying it out.

So that's fine. This is six and up again. Slow of anger.

Wichita, convicting for me.

Because I'm supposed to be like him. I think this is why he's expressing all these things to me and is asked to be like, and he doesn't do, it doesn't have to do anything that he doesn't also do. Cuz I asked at the acting anyways, that he doesn't also Act.

Love is an adjectives on one. I think was really, really good. So if you didn't catch that Torah moment, go back and listen to it again, that I think is a perfect connection here.

Big. Incessant.

This word is in a really hard to translate. He said it I say it. You just need to learn it if you know Shalom. And you know, I'm and you might as well learn acid. Like it's one of those words, you just need to learn

Abundant.

And even multiplying more expansive in. Loving kindness. I think this this word is probably what is in your shoes head when someone? Cuz you know, I tried to find. How does he got himself? Go look for that. There's hardly any, you shoot teaches you, how to live, he gives you ideas on ways to treat others. He rarely talks about what God is like. Maybe it's already settled but I spent several hours this week trying to run down all the ways. He's describing himself. He doesn't really describe God much at all.

Yeah, I know. But what is that? Like, that's my that's why I'm. So what exactly does he think God is like you're right. I noticed that too. What does he say? God is like you can come up with any others. There's there might be three. Times he sort of gets into what he thinks God is like. One of them was hearing, Mark, how I read this passage? When someone comes to him, and you might think they're saying good teacher, a person is asking about a good teacher, good. Let's talk about good and it was. So this is not. You're not leave translates, this passage you, she was sent to him. Why are you asking me about the good? Good things. Some of the translations to take it as a calling you should good. And you sure has this response, don't call me good. Why do you call me? Good. Nothing's going. Dr. Lee my professor takes it this way in Mark. There's nothing good. Except God We'll talk about good. You want to deal with the good? Let's have a conversation about good. The only thing that's good and I think this is from the cast and I actually fight you can transport us back there and listen to how the conversation went. So that's that's the goodness.

I've got.

So it's the robcast and Truth. He is big in loving-kindness and he's big and expansive in all things related. The truth.

This cat has 28. These are 8 aspects of God so far.

Note to self.

preserver or garter of that suggested that we just talked about a gardener who watch it protects and guards, garter of that, loving kindness. Four generations.

He's preserving it.

No set of bone lifter or forgiver of iniquity and hopefully you I don't know, maybe read Terry's article about forgiveness, the importance of lifting for giving, it's so good for you. Yeah, you think you're releasing that other person, you're really lifting off the view your listing of them, but really you're lifting off. You you're not going to carry it because the Hebrew word is really bear to bear or two to carry, like like this. You can carry around your shoulder. You can carry around in your arms, but at some point you're still carrying it.

And that's what forgiveness is. Forgiveness is listing of it, and I think the imagery is lifting it away and off. It's off of you. It's off of them.

Here. He said that he is the lifter of iniquity. Or forgive her, right? That's the typical way we say this working for Giver of iniquity, but this is the really bad. This is like the width of real bad wickedness. That's how the the traditional Jewish understanding of this goes, the first one is the worst kind. He's also the lifter.

Oh, I don't remember this word where this, how is this word Point? Does anybody remember?

the fish are the first shot, this is like Thing that you knew was wrong and you still did it that don't like a real bad Wicked. This, that was the first one. This is like a thing that you knew was wrong. Somebody gave the example of David with but Sheva and it was wrong.

Godless that type of sin. He forgives that type of the real bad wickedness, the willful. And then this regular old sin. Mikata. Did the kind of unintentional sin or error or mistake, I didn't know it was a sin. He forgives that stuff to all three categories.

In my ignorance. I didn't know that. God thought that was wrong. And you might be surprised. There are people grow up in faith or whole life, we don't know that some of the things that they do God considers I thought everybody did that. Nobody lied when it was convenient for them. Which is not a big lie.

Everybody stole from the office pens and stuff.

God forgives. Deserves. And this ends the 13th one here and who cleanses?

Planet K. This word is the route. That makes the word for baby, right to know. This work makes the word for baby. I think of something that's pure and clean. He is the lifter of all those things and the maker of things new. Hopefully in your versions, you skip this world right again. But he does not make new or he does not cleanse and then we go into the other parts of the passage I took.

Scott describing himself 13, attributes, 13, aspects. 13 measures word me. That really means measure. What that means to measure something out. These are measures. You can take of him. He needs these measures measurements. Also means to increase.

And they're all related to compassion, they're all related to forgiveness.

All of these 13. Now he does make a comment about third, three generations of four generations, and then a thousand Generations. But I think that's just in juxtaposition. That's actually actually Grace to Robbins article. Fabulous job the 3rd and 4th generation like that's Grace to these whole explanation. If you see it from the right perspective, is God trying to express to end to mankind. This is how forgiving and compassionate and gracious. I am

Grape juice protected Hillside. And this was the rubric for going back to him. when you send, Remind him. Compassion. He is but really and in that process your mind in yourself cuz he doesn't really forget how compassionate he is but when you verbalize it you remind yourself. That's why it shows up on Yom Kippur to recite these. And other times a service because we reminding ourselves that he's this compassionate and forgiving. If you. I've lived the life of faith and you really haven't understood the deaths of his mercy and then read them again. It is his explanation of himself.

Now, we can listen to, you know, Joshua's explanation or motions, or they were friends because this is his explanation. Really profound. Listen Anu.

You take Bob and hey you would have Robin. Hey l.

Notes are facet dolphin.

Oh no, I skipped. Sorry. This is why you really need to keep your fingers where they should be. The lifter of iniquity. No. Stay alone official.

end of bone, Albert Albanese in the morning,

And what does mon Chay do? When he hears all this? He has one responds to text says, he hurries to do a particular thing. When he's gotten this Revelation, when he's her God described, his very self, Paisans.

To buy himself and his head toward the ground.

I can worship.

And he continued. and if that's what you're like, and if I have really found favor in your sight, please, we need you in our midst.

We have to have you here in our midst. These people so stiff-necked.

We need you to party. Our iniquities are since we need you. The type of God, like the way we are. We don't need a soft. We can handle that. We need this. Best prescription but you gave us. We need this. Please

go with us.

I got. Don't want those other guys. Those vengeful angry gods.

2:30. The ground. Enclosing Ryan said this into a study, I also have a theorist slide. These 13 things aspects, chopping of the text. but, But it's how it's been described. Now, for You know thousands of years or so. And you can go into town when it talks about the 13 attributes in.

That will need helmet in Ocean Shore. Not like 1990.

1500 years for someone. They've been designating MS-13 for a long time.

He's more than that. He's not just the song, This is why.

he exists is such that the only name that really fits

but from this sermon and from his description of himself his willingness to offer forgiveness for any Turner. And we're not saying he's just forgetting people who persist in those descriptions. Doesn't mean you can live however you want and he's just going to look past it. That's not what he's talking about. He's talking about people who seek Him and forgiveness as much as trying to do, he will forgive all those things because he is the things at the beginning.

So it does require a yielding of your will to his will.

What's the hard thing? He takes any Turner? Unflinching, forgiveness penitence is the core. I believe is what he's like, and it comes out in this description that he gives of himself, spent some time in there this week. You thinking about? I know we read, we move on to next week's reading, and spend some time reading through that, thinking of the implications of that for you and how you described, and how you think of him.

South Indian person on the street. Thanks of God like this.

That might be is, I don't know. That's probably article.

God's all judge Ian will he has a standard? He has a way.

Man, is he forgetting?

I'll pray.

Father in heaven, like mache. when I hear this description, I just want to lay down

I can forgive people sometimes.

When are hurtful to me cuz I've been forgiven, I think I can wrap my mind around that.

Do you take a lot of abuse?

And you've offered a description of what you're like, two people continue to describe you as something. You're not, you taking a lot of abuse. Did Dave broad shoulders and you can handle it. I'm sure breaks your heart. That people describe you in ways that you're not. And I prayed to God as my friends and I leave from here that we would carry with us. Recollection of how you describe yourself.

and the things that you highlight,

Highlight your compassionate and merciful gracious. Nature. To the loving-kindness truth.

You preserve.

People. I love you and stick you out. You clean. The cleaner Summit.

Can you limit? The consequences and the punishment. However, you do that in your great economy to three or four generations, but you pour out goodness for a thousand generations of those that love you.

A dear God to yield to our will.

We limit, we limit.

We have damaged our relationship with you. when we choose to live in sin, enough to seek you in forgiveness, we damaged her relationship with you. Help us to live in a positive cycle. I do.

Thank you for.

Our fathers this weekend. Pray for those who are fathers that we would remember what?

What a big responsibility it is.

Thankfully, we have your example.

Abba, Father.
