Series | Not From Here
This is a series about the man Daniel, the faithful exile.
Daniel was taken as a slave into a foreign land - to live amoung other gods and a culture he did not agree with - and that we’re anti-God
As a believer, you may look at the world around you and feel much like him.
Pre Intro:
Today’s message from Daniel 9:24–27… is key to understanding God’s prophetic time clock leading up to the 7-year tribulation.
I’m no expert, but after years of wrestling with apocalyptic scriptures, I believe God has something here for both the curious and the seasoned.
There are many views in the Church on end-time events.
At our church, we hold to a premillennial view and teach a pre-tribulation rapture. Remember— this isn’t a salvation issue, it’s simply important to understand what and why you believe.
Before we begin teaching throught this passage…. lets pray
***Feel free to encourage people to listen to the Holy Spirit speak to them personally as the message is preached

Sermon Title | Time’s Ticking in Babylon
Introduction
In education, one common method is repeating the same idea in different ways to help people grasp its importance.
*******Will the team put up the TIMELINE SLIDE 1
That’s exactly what God does in Daniel—He repeats the End Times… time-clock through different visions, like in chapters 2, 7, and again in 9:2, where Daniel learns judgment will last 70 years. Because Israel rejected God’s ways, they were placed under Gentile rule…. and this continues today.
Clearly, God wants Daniel & us to understand this time clock.
Today it’s a bit more technical than usual, but it’s important—and yes, it makes for a perfect Father’s Day sermon!
- How many Dads are glade they came to church today :)!
The title of todays message is….
Sermon Title | Time’s Ticking in Babylon
And God gives Israel and us… insite into how time will tick.
Why? So we can discern the times… and understand the benefits and lack of benefits when it comes to his Lordship over our life.
Before we dig in, let’s lay a quick foundation for understanding Scripture. It’s a common tool many of you already use when reading the Bible—IN YOUR NOTES, it’s called…
The Law of DOUBLE REFERENCE
The Law of DOUBLE REFERENCE
This is a Bible interpretation tool many scholars use—
It means a person or event in Scripture can have two meanings: one-a literal meaning, and another that points to something greater in the future. It’s also called foreshadowing.
Why is this important?
Because in end-times passages like Daniel 9, God often uses real people and events to foreshadow - future people and events that are still to come.
Let’s look at a couple examples… IN YOUR NOTES… the
The Law of Double reference applying to PEOPLE
The Law of Double reference applying to PEOPLE
For example IN YOUR NOTES
ISAAC (Gen. 22, Heb 11:8)
ISAAC (Gen. 22, Heb 11:8)
He was a real person with a real life and story… he offered himself as a willing sacrifice for his father Abraham.
We see this in Gen. 22.
But Isaac doesn’t just represent himself…He points to a greater reality… a 2nd person… named Jesus who was the TRUE sacrifice for the sins of the world.
He is one of many other examples of this.
The law of double reference is not just about people … Next IN YOUR NOTES let’s look at …
The Law of Double reference… applying to EVENTS
The Law of Double reference… applying to EVENTS
For example the event called….
The PASSOVER LAMB (Ex.12, 1 Cor. 5:7, 1 Jn. 1:29)
The PASSOVER LAMB (Ex.12, 1 Cor. 5:7, 1 Jn. 1:29)
This was a real event that occurred in Ex. 12 where God told people put the blood of a Lamb over their door post to keep death Angel away from their home.
But this event wasn’t just about that moment—it pointed to something greater, the cross.. In 1 Corinthians 5:7, we see that Jesus, our perfect Lamb, would die, and His blood would be applied to our hearts to protect us from the eternal consequences of sin and separation from God in eternity.
There is another example I want to give you and that is… an event thats called IN YOUR NOTES..
The GREAT TRIBULATION (Mat. 24, Dan. 9:27, Rev. 7:14, 1 Thess. 2:11-12, 1 Thess. 5:1-3)
The GREAT TRIBULATION (Mat. 24, Dan. 9:27, Rev. 7:14, 1 Thess. 2:11-12, 1 Thess. 5:1-3)
We’re going to see this today in Dan. 9:27 - Jesus also talks about this same event In Matthew 24:21, as he describes the same future-destruction of the temple and the fall of Jerusalem that took place 70 AD. That was a real, historical event—and yet, it also foreshadows a far worse future global-tribulation that will take place during the end times.
Matthew 24:21 it say’s this “For then there will be great tribulation(or time of distress), such-as…has not-been… from the beginning of the world until now, no, and never will be.”
This is why understanding the Law of Double Reference is so important—especially when reading prophecy and understanding God’s time clock.
Transition: we’re talking about…
Sermon Title | Time’s ticking in Babylon
I would like to point out 3 things I notice about Gods time clock as it relates to the final tribulation and the end of time as we know it.
The first thing I want you to notice… IN YOUR NOTES the
The SIGNIFICANCE of the Time clock (v. 24a)
The SIGNIFICANCE of the Time clock (v. 24a)
God gives Israel some significant details as to what will happen during this 70 week timeframe…
It’s significant becuase God has already brought this to our through other visions and dreams.
and today… will be the 3rd time in the book of Danile alone.
Here is what God reveals to Daniel and us… about the time clock… lets look at it beginning in v. 24
I DID NOT GIVE THIS TO THE MEDIA TEAM
The Lexham English Bible Chapter 9
24
Next… we see here that God will do 6 things during this 70 week period.
The 1st three have to do with Christ and Sin -that have been completed
Lets check it out… He will…
The Lexham English Bible Chapter 9
to
We can see Christ accomplished these as he offered himself as the FINAL SACRIFICE and paying for our sins on the cross.
These last three have to do with the final Kingdom -that have not been completed…
scripture he say’s…
to bring in everlasting righteousness and to seal vision and prophet and to anoint ⌊the most holy place
These last three have to do with the final Kingdom -that have not been completed
You might be thinking,
How could this all happen in just 70 literal weeks?
Jesus wasn’t even born yet—and it’s been over 2,000 years since His death—these numbers don’t seem to add up.
Great Question - I’m glad you asked!
How would the Jews interpreted the word weeks in this passage?
IN YOUR NOTES… this word…
Weeks is the hebrew word
Weeks is the hebrew word
(Shabuwa) meaning… a PERIOD of time.
(Shabuwa) meaning… a PERIOD of time.
With that I want you to notice across scripture how God does things in 7’s
God does things in 7’s
The Hebrew people thought in periods of 7’s becuase God thought in 7’s.
If your taking NOTES: this word…
Weeks means a SEVEN-year period of time.
Weeks means a SEVEN-year period of time.
Translators and Rabbinic scholars agree that Daniel—and Jewish readers—would have understood the “70 weeks” to mean 70 periods of seven years.
This interpretation aligns with the Jewish text and teachings found in the Talmud.
So here is how they would have seen this period… in IN YOUR NOTES
70 Weeks…. would mean…. 70 x.... a SEVEN-YEAR period of time (70 x7= what?) = 490 years
70 Weeks…. would mean…. 70 x.... a SEVEN-YEAR period of time (70 x7= what?) = 490 years
So when you re-read v. 24… here is what its saying…
Daniel, I am bringing 490 years of Judgement on your people the Jews and the Holy City Jerusalem… after that… I will bring bring peace.
EVERYONE OK? If your not, it’s ok… you can catch the replay on youtube as you put yourself to sleep tonight lol.
So… What will happen to Israel during the 70 weeks or 490 year period of time?
Here is the next thing I notice about Gods time… IN YOUR NOTES
The SEGMENTS of the time clock
The SEGMENTS of the time clock
God now breaks down the 490 years into three distinct time periods, each with significant events.
The first two segments are—IN YOUR NOTES….
A Period of SEVEN weeks and SIXTY-TWO weeks (v.25a, Neh. 2:1-8)
A Period of SEVEN weeks and SIXTY-TWO weeks (v.25a, Neh. 2:1-8)
what is 7 + 62? 69 so over this 69 year period there will be 2 big events..
We see this in v. 25… lets look at it on the screen
The Lexham English Bible Chapter 9
25 And you must know and you must understand that
If the media team can put the 2nd chart on the screen..
***WIll the media team put up the 2nd slide
We see two time periods mentioned… 7 week or 49 years period of time and 62 week or 434 years… period of time
Throughout this duration of two time periods… we see two big events that will happen…
One at the beginning of the 7 weeks and one at the end of the 62 weeks.
What will happen during the first 7 week period?
The going out of the word to restore and build Jerusalem…?
Scholars say - this as was a decree given by Artaxerxes in 445BC- In this decree… he give authorization to the Jews to return to Jerusalem after being in exile and rebuild the walls and the city we know this becuase it’s recorded in Neh chapter 2
Gesture the beginning of the chart…
This marked the beginning of Israel's 70 weeks or 490 years of Judgement.
Guess how long history tells us it took to build the walls of Jerusalem from the beginning of the decree?
Right - 49 years marked out by Gods exact period of 7 weeks…
What’s the next thing big thing that see happening at the end of the next 62 week period of time or 434 years?
So from the begining of the 1st period… UNTILL what?
The Lexham English Bible Chapter 9
…until
What is this speaking of?
The birth of Jesus, who is this anointed leader
We know these events took place historically..
If you want to learn more you can pick up a book called…
The Coming Prince, Sir Robert Anderson, 1894
Many scholars look to his work as He went and did the math using the Lunar Calendar and matched the years from the decree to rebuild Jerusalem to the Arrival of Christ guess how many years do you think it was between these two historical events do you think there we’re?
Right - Gesture at the chart…
7 weeks + 62 weeks = 69 weeks
Exactly a total of 483 years
You still with me…
Lets keep reading in v. 26…
The Lexham English Bible Chapter 9
26 “And after the
So sometime after the 2nd 62 week period of time… someone dies
***Will the media team put up the 3rd time chart… for me
What happens according to the word of God to Daniel?
Gesture to the CHART
The Anointed One—Jesus—is “cut off” (crucified).
His death marks the start of the Church Age, often called the Dispensation of Grace - we are in that now.
Gesture to the CHART
Many scholars see this period of Grace as God pausing His prophetic time clock, offering the Church to the world so that all who call on the Lord might be saved.
We point to passages like in 2 Peter 3:8–9, where God delays judgment out of patience, wanting none to perish but all to repents.
Lets keep reading to see what will happen after this period of Grace…
The Lexham English Bible Chapter 9
and the
Who is this coming leader?
Its—a reference to the Roman Empire, led by Titus, who destroyed Jerusalem and the temple in 70 AD.
This was a time of great suffering for God’s people, the same period Jesus referred to in Matthew 24:21
Lets look at it on the screen - Jesus says..
Matthew 24:21 it say’s this “For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, and never will be.”
Remember the law of double reference—this wasn’t just a past event but a foreshadowing of the future rise of the Antichrist, the final little horn, and the coming Tribulation.
When will these things happen? Well.. scripture tells us in v.27 which brings us to our third and final period of time within the 70 weeks of Danile…
IN YOUR NOTES… we see a
A final Period of ONE WEEK (v.27)
A final Period of ONE WEEK (v.27)
I’m sure your catching on by now…
This 1 “period of time” is a 7 year period.
This is what scholars refer to as the the future End Time tribulation period.
This is when Gods time-clock resumes after the Church age or period of Grace for a final 7 year TRIBULATION
Now do you see why we took the time to teach this to you?
This is why we believe scripture teaches a pretty clear 7 year tribulation…
Will the media team Slide 4 w/ v.27
What will happen during this final week?
Lets look at v.27… to find out..
The Lexham English Bible Chapter 9
27 And
What do we see will take place in this final week?
****Gesture to the chart
The Antichrist will make a strong 7-year peace covenant with Israel and Jerusalem—something they haven’t had from the Babylonian exile -
Even today… Israel still faces conflict over parts of the Promised Land, including Gaza and the Temple Mount, showing us that God’s judgments are still upon Israel continues.
Then what takes place? 27.b
The Lexham English Bible Chapter 9
but in half of the week
Scripture says… 1/2 way through the 7 year period some things will take place
Gesture to the dotted line…
The Anti Christ will do what?
will let cease sacrifice and offering
HE will break his peace agreement… and End the Jew’s Sacrifices and Offerings.
This tells us the Jews will eventually rebuild the temple destroyed in 70 AD and resume sacrifices. The Temple Institute has already begun preparations, but to this day, the temple remains incomplete and sacrifices have not resumed.
After the Anti Christ stops their sacrifices scriptures continues and say…
⌊and in place of Israels sacrificing⌋ a desolating abomination comes
The Anti Christ will desolate the temple by DEMANDING WORSHIP of himself in Gods Temple.
We see this event called the Abomination of Desolation in more detail in 2 Thessalonians 2:3–4
This will mark a time of living hell for believers who came to Christ during the Tribulation period… as many will be Martyred for ther faith
Going back to our passage…this Desolation will take place…
… until what - what will STOP the Anti Christ?
The Lexham English Bible Chapter 9
a
The little horn of the 4th beast will be ended and destroyed by Christ himself
and this will Usher in the time of EVERLASTING PEACE or as many Scholars call the Mellinial Reign.
Gesture to the Time Chart
Scripture describes this in more detail in Rev. 19 as the 4th beast is thrown into the Lake of fire.
We’re talking about Gods Time Clock that will mark the end of sin and the Gentile Kingdoms that have ruled over Israel as judgement for their disobedience to God.
Application:
Application:
We should….
Care more about SALVATION than dates and events.
Care more about SALVATION than dates and events.
Matt. 24 say’s we don’t know the day or the hour. Christ can return at any moment and the 70th week could begin.
You will NOT want to be here - rather you will want to be raptured with Christ..
We will talk about this in two weeks
I don’t say this to scare CHRISTIANS - If you have genuinely repented and prioritize your life around Jesus… You should KNOW YOUR SAVED… you should NOT be fearful.
Next Important thing to remember…
God is still in CONTROL of his time clock.
God is still in CONTROL of his time clock.
He has paused his final judgements in the 70th week of Daniel - and his 2nd coming return for his church
What does this show us?
God is still working and navigating things that you could KNOW him as your Lord and Savior…
Here is the question I believe scripture is inviting us to ask ourselves today…
Question: Am I saved
For those of you that consider yourself saved…
Here is the question I believe scripture is inviting us to ask ourselves today…
Question: Have I reoriented my life around Christ?
I am not asking you if you…
I raised you had and answered at an altar call
But have a Genuinely repented and received the life of Christ.
Have I restructured and reoriented my life around my new life in Christ?
I am not asking you if your perfect and NEVER sin…that wont happen until EVERLASTING PEACE in the Melinnial Reign..
I am asking you if you have made LIFE changes with the TRANSFORMING help of the Holy Spirit because of Christ in you.
If you have not done these things - TODAY could be the BEST FATHERS DAY OF YOUR LIFE…
Transition: As I close today….
2 Peter 3:8–9 “. The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.”
where God delays judgment out of patience, wanting none to perish but all to repents.
Salvation Altar Call
I believe Jesus is here today, and He wants to save you. Salvation simply means to deliver or to free. It’s not just about delivering you…
It’s about believing
Believing in Jesus means trusting what He say’s—about sin, and eternal punishment, thats the bad news.
The good news is this… that His death on the cross paid the penalty for our sins, making us right with God.
Ephesians 2:8 reminds us: “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.” Salvation requires two things:
1. God’s Grace—His undeserved gift of forgiveness and life because of His love for you.
2. Faith—placing your trust in Him for salvation.
If you’ve never asked Jesus to save you, today is your day. If you’d like ask him… , raise your hand.
I want to invite you to Repeat a prayer after me
· There is nothing magical in this prayer.. it simply is a way of declaring to Jesus what has taken place in your heart.
Here is how I would like to end the service for everyone else….
Call to Action Altar Call
We’re going to end the service with A question as we do nearly every week.
ALL ACROSS THE ROOM – HAS THE HOLY SPIRIT spoken to you in anyway today?

Tongues & Interpretation
1. To STRENGTHEN the Church (1 Cor14:5)
For prophecy is greater than SPEAKING in TONGUES, unless someone interprets what you are saying so that the whole church will be STRENGTHENED.
Believers, God has operated through this gift today to strengthen you today. Let your faith be strengthened and know that God is in control and using supernatural measures to speak to us.
2. Is a SIGN for unbelievers. (1Cor. 14: 21a, 22)
1 Corinthians 14:21–22 (ESV)
In the Law it is written, “By people of strange tongues and by the lips of foreigners will I speak to this people, and even then they will not listen to me, says the Lord.” Thus tongues are a sign not for believers but for unbelievers, while prophecy is a sign not for unbelievers but for believers.
22 - So you see that speaking in tongues is a SIGN, not for believers, but for UNBELIEVERS.
The Bible explains to us God has chosen to use this gift to be a sign for you. A sign for what? It is a sign of his realness for those of you who have been doubting or questioning the existence of God. He wants you to know he is REAL and he wants to bring you spiritual life and health. If you're in here today and you don't know Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior... he wants you to know he has gone to great lengths to show you his love today. (Great opportunity for a salvation altar call if it fits).
