If Your Eye Is Clear

Introduction

This will be our final lesson on this topic for now.

This evening we are going to be considering errors that are made when our minds are clouded with ways of thinking that we are often not even aware of.

As in all of these lessons, we won’t be dealing with every way we might make these mistakes but hopefully will be offering enough examples to be able to get the idea and hopefully mitigate again such errors.

Presuppositions

The Bible teaches through presuppositions (Gen. 1:1; 4:6-7; Ex. 3:14-15; Eph. 5:28-29).

“I am completely objective” (Jn. 9:16, 34, 41; Matt. 16:1-4; 2 Cor. 4:3-4; 1 Cor. 2:14-3:2; Psa. 139:23-24).

“The trouble with our Liberal friends is not that they’re ignorant; it’s just that they know so much that isn’t so.” - Ronald Reagan

“The Bible is written on a 5th grade level” (2 Pet. 3:15-16; Psa. 91:11-12).

“With enough study, every question can be answered” (2 Chron. 30:16-20; Num. 27:1-3).

Historical

“I’ve never heard that before” (Acts 17:11, 18-20; Jn. 5:39-47).

“The eastern mind didn’t think in linear ways” (Rom. 4:9-11).

“It doesn’t matter why this was written” (Rom. 13:9-10).

“I don’t have to understand history to understand the Bible” (Jd. 14-15).

Conclusion

I don’t want to shake anyone’s confidence in truth.

But I do want to shake the confidence of people who are very confident of things that aren’t so.

I also want to press you to see that no matter how much you know of God’s word, you have much yet to learn.

But if you’re not a Christian, you need to know that Jesus is the one true King and you need to know that you’d go anywhere He asks you to go.
