This week, we’re going to talk about how God stands with us when we go through hard things.

V: 16-19

They knew God could save them. But they also knew God might not. Either way, they weren’t backing down.

First miracle: God didn’t prevent the fire, but He joined them in it.

Biblical scholars believe that this was a theophany, or Christophany, which is a theological term for “a manifestation of Christ” in the Old Testament.

In other words, Jesus Himself was in the fire with those young men!

Second miracle: They came out without a single burn. Their clothes weren’t scorched. They didn’t even smell like smoke.

Like Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, you will, no doubt, experience difficult times in your life.

There may be times when you are tempted to follow the crowd instead of following God.

There may be times when you are rejected due to your faith.

There may even be times when you feel so very alone.

It’s easy to follow Jesus when it’s popular. But what about when it costs you something?

False statement: God will never give you more than you can handle.

Rather, He promised we would never go through it alone.

Isaiah 43:2–3 “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior. I give Egypt as your ransom, Cush and Seba in exchange for you.”

That’s the kind of faith the guys in this story had: they believed God could save them, but they didn’t need Him to prove Himself in order to trust Him.

That’s the kind of fireproof faith we’re called to.

After all, faith doesn’t mean we always get the outcome we want.

Instead, trusting God means leaning on Him through trials, even when the outcome is uncertain.

Why doesn’t God just save us from every trial?

Well, fire doesn’t just destroy – it refines.

In the Bible, fire is often used to purify gold.

Just like that, when we go through hard things with God beside us, our faith gets refined, too.

These situations can feel like you’re walking into the fire.

But God doesn’t watch from a distance as we go through hard things.

He stands with us through it all.
