John 16:8-11

8 When he comes, he will show the world it was wrong about sin, righteousness, and judgment. 

9 He will show the world it was wrong about sin because they don’t believe in me.

 10 He will show the world it was wrong about righteousness because I’m going to the Father and you won’t see me anymore. 

11 He will show the world it was wrong about judgment because this world’s ruler stands condemned.

Holy Spirit convicts People of Sin

Last week we talked about how it was understandable how people could be scared of the Holy Spirit This week we want to continue our study on the Holy Spirit and discuss How the Holy Spirit convicts us of our sin. You see the Holy Spirits main Job is to help us to live Holy. To accomplish this we need to understand what we are doing is a sin. The Holy Spirit will help us understand the word of the Lord which in turn will help us to understand our sin and cause us to live a more Holy life. You see the Holy Spirit is a gift from Jesus to be in and with each of us. in

John 14:16-17 it reads

16 I will ask the Father, and he will send another Companion,[a] who will be with you forever. 

17 This Companion is the Spirit of Truth, whom the world can’t receive because it neither sees him nor recognizes him. You know him, because he lives with you and will be with you.

You see when Jesus sent the Holy spirit to be with us it is only intended for the believers in Christ. The world could not be blessed by the Holy Spirit because it did not recognize Jesus as the messiah. So in

John 15:26 it reads

26 “When the Companion[a] comes, whom I will send from the Father—the Spirit of Truth who proceeds from the Father—he will testify about me.

So you see the Holy Spirit is the eyes and ears as well as the voice of the lord. As we learned last week the Holy Spirit coming to the apostles was a fulfilment of the promise about the Holy Spirit in the Gospel of John. So The Holy Spirit has a job that convicts all people claiming to be Christians of their sins. When we realize we have sinned against God it is the Holy Spirit who convicts us to this fact. We through the understanding and teachings of the word of God, convicts us to our sin. If we did not have the Holy spirit dwelling in us we could never realize what God commands of us, and never be able to realize when we sin. You see when we speak to the unbeliever and they are not open to the grace of Jesus Christ they do not have the capability of knowing what they are doing is against God. We as Christians sometimes assume everyone knows when they do something wrong it’s against God, But unless they understand his word and have the Holy Spirit in them, they may know it’s wrong in society but do not realize it is against God. This is why Jesus charges us with having Grace with others, we never know where they are in their walk with Christ or even if they have ever been exposed to Jesus. We are sheltered in our community. We live in and around the Christian community. We have been taught right from wrong. So we assume all understand what a sin is and what is not. So I ask you to please be open to the Holy Spirit and allow him to dwell in you, Allow him to form your actions to live a Holy life for Jesus as well as understand he will help us understand the word of the Lord better. We are not the Judge or the Jury when it comes to deciding, that what determines something to be classified as a sin. That only comes through the Holy Spirit and Jesus Christ. This is a blessing from God to have the ability to not be burdened with having to decide if something we do is a sin or not, We are blessed with the Holy Spirit to convict us in what is right or wrong. Again I know I say this a-lot. But when it comes to being a Christian and living a Holy life we Are given the help and the tools from Jesus to get the Job done. Just in our daily jobs whether you are in school or employed we have to have the tools to get the job done. Just like our walk with Jesus he provides the tools needed to be a Christian. When we give our life to Jesus Christ we are given the tool to allow us to be Holy and function so we can live our life as an example to the world of what is meant to be a Christian. We need to be open to the Holy Spirit when he convicts us of our sin.
