A Command of God
Exodus 20:12
““Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.”
By honoring your father and mother you are honoring God.
Honoring your parents is not predicated on the behavior of your parents, but on the Lordship of Jesus in your life.
What honoring does not mean:
Allowing someone to continue to harm you.
Obeying
Enabling sin
What honoring does mean:
You treat your parents with a respect that their position, not always their behavior, deserves.
How Joesph Honored His Father
He kept his promise and honored Jacob in his death.
He assumed the leadership role in the family.
He exercised forgiveness.
He kept the faith.
