Mark 7:24–37 ESV
And from there he arose and went away to the region of Tyre and Sidon. And he entered a house and did not want anyone to know, yet he could not be hidden. But immediately a woman whose little daughter had an unclean spirit heard of him and came and fell down at his feet. Now the woman was a Gentile, a Syrophoenician by birth. And she begged him to cast the demon out of her daughter. And he said to her, “Let the children be fed first, for it is not right to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.” But she answered him, “Yes, Lord; yet even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.” And he said to her, “For this statement you may go your way; the demon has left your daughter.” And she went home and found the child lying in bed and the demon gone. Then he returned from the region of Tyre and went through Sidon to the Sea of Galilee, in the region of the Decapolis. And they brought to him a man who was deaf and had a speech impediment, and they begged him to lay his hand on him. And taking him aside from the crowd privately, he put his fingers into his ears, and after spitting touched his tongue. And looking up to heaven, he sighed and said to him, “Ephphatha,” that is, “Be opened.” And his ears were opened, his tongue was released, and he spoke plainly. And Jesus charged them to tell no one. But the more he charged them, the more zealously they proclaimed it. And they were astonished beyond measure, saying, “He has done all things well. He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.”

Big Idea: Jesus is the Savior who hears, heals, and will one day restore all things.

1. Jesus' ministry is for all who call on him.

Where is jesus at? (Tyre and Sidon)
Only time he leaves Isreal
Who is he serving? (Syrophecian)
Modern day Lebanon
Matthews Gospel calls her a Canaanite woman (Think of the history here)
Farthest thing from being Jewish (Unclean)
God’s grace is bigger than Israel’s history.
Jesus' kingdom welcomes even former enemies.
Jesus doesn’t minister to her because of her credentials
The Syrophoenician woman had none of the "right" credentials:
She wasn’t Jewish.
She didn’t have status.
She didn’t have religious training.
She wasn’t part of God’s covenant people.
Mark 7:27–28 “And he said to her, “Let the children be fed first, for it is not right to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.” But she answered him, “Yes, Lord; yet even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.””
Galatians 3:28 ESV
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

2. Jesus hears the cries of the hurting

The Cry of a mother…
They bring him the deaf man

Why Does Jesus listen to her?

Faith — She believes Jesus can heal her daughter,
Desperation — She humbly and persistently cries out for mercy.
Humility — She acknowledges she has no claim, but trusts in His overflowing grace ("even the dogs eat the crumbs").
Jesus is wants your heart.

3 Jesus addresses our hurts

addressed, addresses, and will address
In the Kingdom jesus cares for physical needs of all regardless of background.
We must take hope in that God cares.
In our moments of pain we should praise God for his care… not sit in despair?

Who Jesus Healed:

The Sick: Simon’s mother-in-law (Mark 1:29-31)
The Demon-Possessed: The man with many demons in the Gerasenes (Mark 5:1-20)
The Physically Disabled: The paralyzed man lowered through the roof (Mark 2:1-12)
The Unclean & Outcast: The woman with the issue of blood (Mark 5:25-34)
The Dead: Jairus' daughter (Mark 5:35-43)
The Desperate Parent: The Syrophoenician woman pleading for her daughter (Mark 7:24-30)
The Deaf and Mute: The man healed in Decapolis (Mark 7:31-37)
The Author Mark wants you to know that Jesus sees, and in his presence these things are no more.
You can come to him.

4. Jesus is worthy of praise

Mark 7:36–37 “And Jesus charged them to tell no one. But the more he charged them, the more zealously they proclaimed it. And they were astonished beyond measure, saying, “He has done all things well. He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.””
Jesus tells him to tell no one and yet… he cant help it
Zealosly proclaimed…
Astonished beyond measure
Wow… he even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak
Look what he has done for me? (The voiceless can now praise)

5. Jesus will bring all things to completion

Mark 7:37 “And they were astonished beyond measure, saying, “He has done all things well. He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.””
Jesus is God
All Things well in his presence….
Revelation 21:4 ESV
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
Friends in your moment of despair… there is hope through Jesus.
We simply must call on him.
