V1
Mark 15:34 Matthew 27:46
Jesus deliberately quoted the beginning of this psalm of David
He was not simply complaining to God
And if we think of this as Jesus reciting the whole psalm, it becomes clear as to why he chose to quote this psalm
V2-5
David feels like God if far from him
He feels like his cries and groanings are not heard
Yet he knows God is holy and will deliver him just as he did with the forefathers of Isreal
They trusted God and were not disappointed
There is the parallel with Jesus on the cross trusting The Father will deliver Him, and that we and trusting Jesus to deliver us.
V6-8
Mark 15:29-32 Matthew 27:39-44
The parallel is clear here with this same situation happening with Jesus with people mocking Him
People telling Him if He really is Lord, He will be delivered
They shake their heads at Him, and sneer
V9-10
David again in a very Psalmic way, has that tension with lamenting but still trusting God
Which Jesus does perfectly, and exemplifies on the cross
V11-13
Enemies surround him, (Just as Jesus was)
He was helpless, (As Jesus was)
V14-15
This is describing the physical state of Jesus
John 19:31-37
When His side was pierced, water & blood came out
Why did blood and water come out of Jesus’ side when He was pierced? | GotQuestions.org
John 19:36, Ps 34:20,
His bones were never broken
John 19:37, Zech 12:10
He was pierced
V16-17
Jesus is surrounded
They pierce His hands and feet
John 20:24-29 (Fitting for what we are discussing)
The earliest recorded use of crucifixion was in 522 BC, recorded by Herodotus
It was used mostly by the Persians, then the Romans
This was written roughly 1,000 years before Jesus. Before crucifixion was invented
We even have a physical copy from the DSS, dating back to around 100 BC
V18
This is a very unique prophecy considering it seems so minute
Its also recorded in all four gospels
Matt 27:35, Mark 15:24, Luke 23:34, John 19:24
