Warning: Flash Flooding

Introduction: Every summer at least for as long as I remember we would get a rain storm in Colorado and on the radio we would get that annoying beeping sound with the scary sounding person saying this is the national weather service, warning flash flooding, in your area. Seek higher ground, don’t drowned. then finishes with the beeping sound. Now this is to get our attention and be able to react so that we don’t die. In the same way God is doing the same to us.
Beeping noise - Getting our attention
Warning danger - God warns us of danger
Seek higher ground - Seeking thing above
Turn Around Don’t Drown - Repent and Don’t fall into sin
Heed the warning
Getting Our Attention
How does God get our attention? Looking through the bible God used different methods to get the attention of the people or a person.
I think of Moses, God used a burning bush to get Moses attention
Exodus 3:1–4 NASB95
1 Now Moses was pasturing the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian; and he led the flock to the west side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. 2 The angel of the Lord appeared to him in a blazing fire from the midst of a bush; and he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, yet the bush was not consumed. 3 So Moses said, “I must turn aside now and see this marvelous sight, why the bush is not burned up.” 4 When the Lord saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.”
God used dreams to relay his message, I think of Joseph and Jacob, even pilots wife had a dream about Jesus and how Jesus was innocent.
God spoke directly to the prophets, I think of Jonah. God told Jonah to go to Nineveh to preach because of their wickedness.
Jonah 1:1–2 NASB95
1 The word of the Lord came to Jonah the son of Amittai saying, 2 “Arise, go to Nineveh the great city and cry against it, for their wickedness has come up before Me.”
How about the new testament, well Jesus was on this earth He preached about salvation and the kingdom of heaven. His miracles would get the attention of many.
then you have the apostles and other men and they got peoples attention by going to the people preaching salvation and that there is a heaven and a hell.
So God gets our attention from His servants and that is how we get the attention of people is by reaching out them.
Matthew 28:19–20 NASB95
19 “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
This is the same for the national weather service alerts by reaching out to everyone though the radio, phone, tv, and news that get the word spread quickly to everyone.
Then sometimes our attention is grabbed when we are in the middle of the problem like a rain storm, in the same way God uses trials to look for answers towards Him.
