Introduction
Greetings…
Today is the “best” day of the year, Father’s Day, :0).
In all seriousness I am so very thankful for not only all the faithful father’s who raise their children in the Lord that are here but also all those the world over.
Mother’s are precious and needed but just as important are fathers.
I know the role of the father has been diminished in our more modern times, but this ideology couldn’t be further from the truth.
How do I know this?
Because our God has taken the title of Father.
We first see title “God the Father” in John 6:27…
27 Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For on him God the Father has set his seal.
However, throughout the bible this concept is demonstrated if not outright stated.
Because God is our Father, I thought on this Father’s Day, we could look at how God is a father to us all.
Surely looking to the perfect Father can help all of us understand the role of fatherhood all the more.
So, with that in mind let’s look at our first point.
God the Father is everyone’s…
Source Of Life
Source Of Life
Our Creator
Our Creator
From the very earliest of moments, God has had a hand in our lives.
It started with knowing us before we were conceived and continued with God giving us life.
5 Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.
4 The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.
God not only is the source of our life as it pertains to our creation but he is also…
Our Sustainer
Our Sustainer
This means he watches over us not just when we were in our mother’s womb but continually day by day.
5 The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade on your right hand. 6 The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night. 7 The Lord will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life. 8 The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore.
10 fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Summary
Summary
There is no point in time wherein God is not present in our lives.
That doesn’t mean we cannot reject him, run away from him, and ignore him as our father, but it does mean we cannot say he “isn’t our father” who cares for us.
We see this in “how God the Father” sustains his children.
God is our father and sustains us by being our…
Provider Of Needs
Provider Of Needs
Our Need For Love
Our Need For Love
God’s very character is that of love.
By that I mean, his very essence of who he is, is love.
8 Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.
Because of this he certainly shows us love and compassion.
1 See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
13 As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him.
God the Father sustains us and provides for our needs by also providing…
Our Need For Correction
Our Need For Correction
There is no instance where a child is better off not being disciplined.
We know this because God has clearly stated that he disciplines us, his children, out of a love for us.
6 For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives.” 7 It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline?
11 My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, Nor detest His correction; 12 For whom the Lord loves He corrects, Just as a father the son in whom he delights.
19 Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent.
God the Father sustains us and provides for our needs by providing…
Our Need For Protection
Our Need For Protection
God shields his children from harm and defends them.
5 Father of the fatherless and protector of widows is God in his holy habitation.
1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
God the Father sustains us and provides for our needs by providing…
Our Need For Mercy & Forgiveness
Our Need For Mercy & Forgiveness
God the Father is merciful and longsuffering towards his hardhearted and stubborn headed children, thankfully.
22 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; 23 they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
His mercy extends to his offering to us grace and thus salvation.
4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved
God the Father sustains us and provides for our needs by providing…
Our Need For A Teacher
Our Need For A Teacher
God the Father instructs and leads his children by providing wisdom and direction to us.
17 This is what the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel says: I am the Lord your God, who teaches you for your benefit, who leads you in the way you should go.
8 Good and upright is the Lord; therefore he instructs sinners in the way. 9 He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble his way.
8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.
God the Father sustains us and provides for our needs by providing…
Our Need For A Blessed Future
Our Need For A Blessed Future
Everyone has a future, but God the Father grants his children an eternal inheritance, passing down blessings to his heirs.
16 The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you
11 In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will, 12 so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory.
13 In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.

Summary
God the Father is the provider of our every need, from our creation through our death, he provides each step of the way.
Conclusion
Conclusion
God the Father is the God of all fathers and so many children today would benefit greatly from more fathers learning from “the Father of all fathers.”
Let us never diminish the role father’s plan in the lives of children and let us never ignore the lessons from our heavenly Father.
Invitation
1 Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save, or his ear dull, that it cannot hear; 2 but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear.
6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.
17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
6 And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
30 The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent
33 So therefore, any one of you who does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple.
32 Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. 33 But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.
8 in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.
1 Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, 2 and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. 3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures
3 Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
12 Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.
