So picking of from last week God miraculously delivered David by drawing Saul away to fight the Philistines at the moment Saul was ready to capture David.
SO Verse 1 -2 , the En Gedi Canyon was an oasis with waterfalls and vegetation, it was a great place for David and his men to hide because of the water to fish and caves to hide in and animals to hunt.
Verse 3, ONE of the coolest and honestly comical parts of this chapter is for some reason Saul has to “ attend to his needs” And he enters the cave alone where then David and his men are hiding. Understand that this was no coincidence but Gods plan to deliver Saul to David.
Verse 4-7 , what an incredible act of restraint and compassion David showcased in this moment. Think of all the times Saul had tried to kill and capture David causing him to leave his home and hide. Think about the people that were killed for helping David disspite there knowledge of Davids situation with King Saul. Revenge and retaliation are not of God.
David felt convicted about cutting Saul’s robe because David still recognized that at that moment Saul was still Gods appointed authority. Most people would have killed Saul and not thought twice about it.
Verse 8, reveals so much about Davids loyal heart first to God and his plan and process for his life and he showcases that loyalty by continuing to show respect for the standing King regardless of how he has been treated. Pretty noble act by David to kneel to a man who many times has personally tried to kill him. The trust David had in God was put on display because as soon as Saul got back outside he could have had David killed immediately.
