Psalm 75:2–5 ““At the set time that I appoint I will judge with equity. When the earth totters, and all its inhabitants, it is I who keep steady its pillars. Selah I say to the boastful, ‘Do not boast,’ and to the wicked, ‘Do not lift up your horn; do not lift up your horn on high, or speak with haughty neck.’ ””

Then he began to denounce the cities where most of his mighty works had been done, because they did not repent. “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. But I tell you, it will be more bearable on the day of judgment for Tyre and Sidon than for you. And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? You will be brought down to Hades. For if the mighty works done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. But I tell you that it will be more tolerable on the day of judgment for the land of Sodom than for you.”
“Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. But it will be more bearable in the judgment for Tyre and Sidon than for you. And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? You shall be brought down to Hades. “The one who hears you hears me, and the one who rejects you rejects me, and the one who rejects me rejects him who sent me.”

Jesus’ Miracles
Then he began to denounce the cities where most of his mighty works had been done, because they did not repent.
Jesus denounces Chorazin and Bethsaida (exact location unknown)
Luke confirms near remote place of feeding of five thousand
Bethsaida: home of Philip, Andrew & Peter
“Where most of his might works had been done”
“Because they did not repent”
“Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.
Tyre and Sidon
Modern day: Lebanon
Joel’s Time: Philistia
Philistines: (from crete) were an aggressive and war mongering people
Tyre & Sidon: Proud, money mad and cruel
Titus 1:12 “One of the Cretans, a prophet of their own, said, “Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.””
“They would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes”
But I tell you, it will be more bearable on the day of judgment for Tyre and Sidon than for you.
“More bearable on the day of Judgement for Tyre & Sidon, than for you”
Old Testament: Day of Judgement
Isaiah 13:9 “Behold, the day of the Lord comes, cruel, with wrath and fierce anger, to make the land a desolation and to destroy its sinners from it.”
Ezekiel 30:3 “For the day is near, the day of the Lord is near; it will be a day of clouds, a time of doom for the nations.”
And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? You will be brought down to Hades. For if the mighty works done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.
Jesus turns his comments to Capenaum where he had been living and from which he had established his ministry
King of Babylon boasted, and Isaiah responded...
Isaiah 14:13 “You said in your heart, ‘I will ascend to heaven; above the stars of God I will set my throne on high; I will sit on the mount of assembly in the far reaches of the north;”
Isaiah 14:15 “But you are brought down to Sheol, to the far reaches of the pit.”
“Will you be exalted to heaven? No! You will be brought down to Hades [Hell]”
Old testament: Sheol
If the same works as done in Capenaum had been done is Sodom (and Gamorrah) it would have not been destroyed (indicating a great repentance would have incurred)
But I tell you that it will be more tolerable on the day of judgment for the land of Sodom than for you.”
“More tolerable on the day of judgement for the lad of Sodom, than for you”
