Psalm 2:1–7 ESV
1 Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? 2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord and against his Anointed, saying, 3 “Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us.” 4 He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord holds them in derision. 5 Then he will speak to them in his wrath, and terrify them in his fury, saying, 6 “As for me, I have set my King on Zion, my holy hill.” 7 I will tell of the decree: The Lord said to me, “You are my Son; today I have begotten you.
Psalm 2:7 ESV
7 I will tell of the decree: The Lord said to me, “You are my Son; today I have begotten you.
BEGET: to father a child, To cause or bring about, to give life.

The Problem: Fathers begetting CHILDREN IN CHAOS INSTEAD OF COMMUNITY

Example: Cain and Abel, Noah getting drunk, Lot choosing to live by Sodom because he would make more money lost his wife and his daughters to incest, Eli failing to discipline his sons who were in the Lord.
When Fathers are not plugged into the Source of Life, they produce death’s children.
SAME PROBLEM IN OUR TEXT: THE FATHER AND HIS SON ARE IN A CHAOTIC SITUATION. The kings and the people who follow them are speaking against them and plotting against them. It appears that the Father is not doing his job. It’s a depressing chaotic situation. It feels like the CHAOS is going to win!!

The Father’s Home is Broken.

Psalm 2:1–4 ESV
1 Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? 2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord and against his Anointed, saying, 3 “Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us.” 4 He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord holds them in derision.

The Father Speaks a LIFE-Giving Word over His Son.

Psalm 2:7 ESV
7 I will tell of the decree: The Lord said to me, “You are my Son; today I have begotten you.
Acts 13:33 ESV
33 this he has fulfilled to us their children by RAISING JESUS, as also it is written in the second Psalm, “ ‘You are my Son, today I have begotten you.’
“Today, I have BEGOTTEN YOU.”

RAISING JESUS WAS THE FATHER BEGETTING HIM, GIVING HIM LIFE, REVERSING THE CHAOS — FATHERS CAN RETURN AND REGAIN THEIR PURPOSE.

What does that mean for us:

(1)Children, God has spoken over us “You are my Son; today I made you. You are no longer the CHAOS of your past.

(2) You have been FATHERED so that you can FATHER

HOW DO WE FATHER NOW!

Ephesians 6:4 ESV
4 Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.
(1) We connect them to the source - the Lord — pray and teach your kids about the Lord
(2) WE set the boundaries — discipline in the Lord Jesus
(3) We counsel and encourage children in the Lord Jesus

We beget children that look like our Father
