Can we give God glory tonight? He's worthy of it. The Lord Jesus Christ is worthy of our praise and worthy of our Glory.
First number six of chapter one The Bible says a son on Earth is father and a servant is Master is then I be a father. Where is my honor? This is the Lord speaking. And if I be a master, where is my fear say at the Lord of hosts unto you o priest that despise my name and you say we're in have we despise thy name? you offer polluted bread upon mine Altar and you say we're in if we polluted they in that she say the table of the Lord is contemptible. And if you offered the blind for sacrifice is it not evil and if he offered the lame and sick is it not evil offer it now into that Governor Willie be pleased with the or accept that person said the Lord of hosts. And now I pray you beseech God that he will be gracious unto us. This has been your means really regard your person's saith the Lord of hosts. Who is there even among you that would shut the doors for not neither. Do you Kindle Fire on my Altar for not I have no pleasure in you say the Lord of hosts. Neither. Will I accept an offering at your hand for from the rising of the sun even unto the going down of the same my name shall be great among the Gentiles and every plays in sin shall be offered unto my name and a pure offering for my name shall be great among the Heathen saith the Lord of hosts, but she have profaned it in that you say the table of the Lord is polluted and the fruit thereof even is meat is contemptible. You said also behold what a weariness is it that it say The Lord of hosts. You have brought that which was torn and the lame and the sick. Does she brought an offering should I accept this of your hand says the Lord But cursed, be the deceiver which has in his flock of male and valid and sacrifice sacrifice unto the Lord. A corrupt thing for, I am a great king, say the Lord of host and my name is Dreadful among the heathen.
Heavenly father, I do about before you and just ask that you would open your word to us and open our understanding. Open our eyes that we may behold, wondrous things out of that law. I pray Lord, you would set a watch over my mouth and guard my tongue father, hide me behind Jesus tonight, I come reliant on you and reliant on the Holy Spirit. I have nothing in myself that can help anyone tonight but your work can help us. And father, I pray that we would Pay close attention to what you have said here through divine inspiration of the holy spirit that we would not just read it as a story given by a preacher thousands of years ago, but that we would see ourselves In this passage somewhere and that Lord we would take the steps necessary to guard our heart to protect our life so that we don't make the same mistakes that they did. Oh Father there's much for us to learn from their bad example and Lord help us to protect those things which are precious and sacred and holy and help us to come before you with purity. And father, I thank you for the blood of Jesus Christ. Your son that cleanses us from all sin. And I pray that you will give us what we need from your word to help us grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ your son and his precious and holy name we do pray. Amen. Amen, well, how many of you had a good Thanksgiving? Did you eat too much? I know I did not gluttonous, but I definitely hate more than I probably should have but it was wonderful to spend time with family and and I to think about all that God has done and to thank him. We'll just imagine with me for a moment if you would as hard as this could be but let's just imagine that you received an invitation for Thanksgiving by. Oh well just say Governor Hickenlooper in for whatever reason he invited you over to his home. Now. I know you're thinking Pastor that would never happen. Then I'll be at with him, but just for sake of illustration go along with me. Okay, Governor Hickenlooper you and him are really good friends for whatever reason that is. I don't know but you get an invitation to come over for Thanksgiving and you say well, I'm going to contribute to this meal here tonight. I'm going to I'm going to bring something to show how much I appreciate you know him. Well, let's see that kind of brakes. But the illustration all right. It's an illustration you come over to his house or wherever you decide that you're going to have Thanksgiving dinner and you pull out your turkey and you say hey, can I cook this for about four and a half hours or so in your oven and you pull that bird out of the bag and start looking it over and Governor Hickenlooper looks at it and says, well, it's got some green spots on it there. What's what's that? Oh, you know hey this you know, this was this was a birthday. I got a really good discount on it it you know, it. It came down with some kind of, you know flu and and so it started turning and so I just thought we took it up, you know when your oven in and then we can have Thanksgiving dinner.
Do you think that's going to go over very well? Okay, why did I use a silly illustration like that? Because the Lord use that same illustration here. Just not with Governor Hickenlooper. I just used him cuz he happens to be our governor right now in the state of Colorado at this time. I would guess that the governor would be Nehemiah. Although I think it was dr. Gill who said that it was as rubbable depending on the time frame there. I would lean towards Nehemiah personally cuz Malachi I see is being a contemporary more of Nehemiah rather than as robable. I see Hagee. I being a contemporary of survivable. What a picture you go and you sit down for a meal and you bring out this. Bird that is come down with flu and it should never even be eaten by human being perhaps now that's an extreme case. Okay, they weren't bringing flu-ridden birds or anything of that nature. It wasn't that that extreme, but they were still marred and they weren't worthy for the Lord service. And these were being given by the priest. Now that I've wet your appetite just a little bit. Let me fill in some of the blanks for you from last time because I don't remember finishing my outline a couple of weeks ago. So let me give you the blanks to fill in we talked about calling the blind to behold the Lord's pass this place of his love. And that's really where we spent most of our time in the first versus hear of Malachi and how the comparison will not a comparison but a contrast was made between Jacob and Esau and we saw and talked about God's favor on Jacob over Esau and how it's real as a nation was blessed and how he saw which became eat them. They really wound up being nothing in the end and they experience God's judgment on them for the way that they have treated Israel. There's a contrast here and it's one of those statements in verse number three that many people have had a hard time with I hated Esau how can God say I love Jacob and hate Esau and I think it was Jay Vernon McGee talking about doctor ghebaly insane. Well, it's not so much the hating of Esau that I have a problem with its I can understand how God could love Jacob and you read the life of Jacob and sure enough. I anybody that could be like Jacob. How could how could you love someone like that little play on words in our passage we read cursed is the deceiver. Amazing God's word is in you see that the deceiver. That's what Jacob's name means and so he says he loves the deceiver but cursed be the deceiver. Why because they're lying and they they could bring something excellent to the Lord, but they make this vow. And in that verse will look at it a little later on verse 14 cursed be the deceiver witch hat and his flock of mail invalid. I'm going to give the Lord this I'm going to make a promise. I'm going to bring him this and then, you know when it comes to town time to bring it they bring something that's corrupt. A corrupt thing you said that is not going to receive my blessing. It's going to receive cursing. So we talked about calling the blind to behold the Lord's pass this plate of his love as the Lord showed us. He loves us in the past as you showed Israel that he loved them in the past. Yes. He did. The Lord's Courier of his love is Malachi and verse number one. The Lord's confirmation of its love is Xenoverse 2 in the first part of it Israel's callousness toward his love was seen in the rest of verse to the Lord's contrast. We talked about how he proved his love showed his love to Jacob and to Israel and then the second thought that I was going to challenge you if I didn't make it around 2, but you can just carry this in your thoughts. We called the Beloved to believe the Lord's future promised a blessing and this was picked up in verse number 5. He says in your eyes shall see whose eyes is real size and you shall say the Lord will be magnified from the border of Israel. God still has some promises for Israel and he's going to fulfill those and the first part of births number 5. He says you're going to see the Lord is miraculous. You are going to see God do some amazing things and then based off what you see you are going to say and what will they say based off? What they see they behold the Lord and they say he is magnified. I thought of the psalmist Raine said Oh Come magnify the Lord with me you think about magnification that's not a foreign concept to us at least as me as a young child growing up in Georgia. I knew all about magnification magnifying glasses out in the yard. Yeah played with him growing up and I was always enthralled when I go to my grandparents house and they would have that magnifying glass and I'd feel like I was Sherlock Holmes you don't run around the house playing with my Granddaddy's magnifying glass and magnifying everything. When we magnify the Lord, we get a better understanding of how great our God is. And he is worthy of our praise and someone nurse number six, he begins to give some illustrations. A son on Earth is father, he talks about fathers you talked about Masters and then he makes a comparison. And so first off tonight, if you would notice with me and verses 6 through 8, they were guilty of robbing God of his glory. Robin God's glory. This is Dangerous Ground to be on Psalm 29. It's a beautiful song. Let's go over and read Psalm 29.
Give unto the Lord O, ye Mighty give unto the Lord glory and strength. Given to the Lord Glory, do under his name, Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness. We are to give. We are to ascribe Glory, if you will. so, as I studied through this song,
Getting ready to preach it. Some time ago, the question kept coming to my mind will. How can you give some God? Something that's already his? I mean, isn't he already all glorious? Isn't he? The god of glory? And so how can we give something to him? Who has everything? We shouldn't need to give God glory? Well, I kind of look at it in the sense of not taking. From him something that doesn't belong to you. We rob God of his glory. When we don't give him glory, we don't ascribe glory to him and we don't give unto the Lord. Give unto Jehovah. Do you might have given to the Lord, glory, and strength given to the Lord Glory, do unto his name. It is due. When you think about something that is due, maybe you have a bill that's due. There's a due date when a woman is expecting a child. There's a due date for delivery and that child's coming, whether you wanted to or not. And when it happens that delivery is there, there's nothing that can afford that. Well, there, in case, there's some things that can, you know, impede. But there is a, there's an expectation. There is a due date and that delivery Will come and that due date may not be when we can't exactly pinpoint it, but it's do we learned from Paul about this due date in Philippians chapter 2.
where it says that Jesus Christ humbled himself became obedient unto death even the death of the cross. and as he came and he gave himself for us he
He earned the right he earned the privilege of what Paul goes on to say when he says that every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. See the due date is set and it is appointed and the king of kings and Lord of lords is going to rain from high one day and all knees will bow every knee shall bow out and confess give Glory unto the Lord see these priests. That's who's being addressed in verse number 6 of Malachi want these priests have been despising God. They've been robbing him of the glory that is due his name. And so God uses some common sense illustrations of Honor. He talks about a father. He says, okay, let's think about parent you have a father and a reasonable father any reasonable father is going to expect a certain amount of respect and honor from their children. I don't know any father, father, that would expect otherwise and you don't have to go to the Bible necessarily to see this. This is just part of who we are as humans. I mean, any culture I just, I just can't imagine that you could go to a culture that it would be okay for children to blatantly this on her parents and whatever that culture would look like. He uses a common sense, illustration. It's like little Johnny running up to Dad and and spitting in Dead Space despising, the Lord. That's how these priests have treated God. This is how I feel if you were a father and you had a, a child, a son in particular, you says the sun on Earth is father. If you had a son that just blatantly disrespected, you and gave you, no honor. How was I going to make you feel as a father? Now if there was in your your boundaries still and you have the means to chastise you're going to do that, but I can sit down with you and tell you about some some fathers that no longer have that privilege because time has expired in and they grieve over how their children treat them their sons. And so he uses an illustration that helps them think through. That's okay. Let's put it in perspective. He says it if you were a servant and I was the master. Where is my honor? The word for Honor Cabo. That means it also means glory in so the glory of God we looked at it in Psalm 29, but it's talked about much through the scripture Psalm 24 would be another place we can look at he's called the king of glory and those verses the king of glory shall come in. Who is this king of glory the lord of hosts the Lord of armies Glory and Honor are do unto him. And so they're not offering that they are robbing him of his glory. He gives him a common-sense illustration. Think about a father think about a Master with a servant. Hey, let's say you showed up to work tomorrow you clocked in and you said I don't care what the boss says. I'm going to do whatever I want. You think you're going to have a job very long. No. But I know we can get away with it with the Lord, you know, we can do it to him. While we never dare do it to a human employer. While we never dare do it to parent. At least, we ought not to We think that we can do it with the Lord and it's okay and he's just going to turn a blind eye to it. They had corrupted the very service that God had called them to secondly so that he gives a common sense. Illustration of Honor in verse 6, number seven and eight. He points out how they had corrupted their service to God. Look at it. He says his son on Earth is father and a servant is Master if then I'll be a father. Where is my honor? And if I be a master, where is my fear rhetorical, question, that he understood implication is that it's non-existent, they had taken it and they are not giving it to him when he deserves it. Say The Lord of hosts on to you and he's talking to the priests o priest that. Despise my name. We talked about this spicing last time with Esau and he's a prime illustration of what it is to despise. Because the Bible says he despised his Birthright. When you just buy something, you put it on the scales, you weigh it out and it and it comes to lapse. It doesn't doesn't have to wait. That it should he says your despising, my name now. We talked about the name of God. We need to understand in this day and time. It's a reference to his character. It's a reference to who he is and you could just read himself in there when he talks about his name. He says you have despised my name you say we're in if we despise thy name.
What are you talking about. We haven't done this. We're not guilty the judge renders the verdict and we say not guilty. Are they guilty? You got to read Malachi and understand the Lord has a sense of humor and I just can't read Malachi without without seeing the sarcasm that's here. If it is just life with sarcasm. And so this conversation is being had and I don't even think the priest would be having this conversation. If Malachi hadn't come and prompted them and said we're going to talk about this with the Lord and you're going to have this conversation whether you want to or not. Let me tell you what you would be saying to the Lord. So Malachi's kind of just playing out this whole dialogue between the priest in between God and here, you know, it's almost the sarcasm you can cut it with a knife. He says we're in if we despise I name you are acting your actions speak louder than your words and you are acting like you have despised by name and what you're doing. So he puts words to what they're doing puts words to their action. Birth number 7. Here's their guilt for not guilty. Oh, yeah. Well, it's think through this he offer polluted bread upon alter polluted. The word bread there. Some commentaries talked about it being food. I think it's even translated as food and some other versions. Bread bread is food. These bread, this bread, these are animal sacrifices right. How can an animal be bred? Well, I think this is a good thing to think about, since we're in, have we polluted the in that you say the table of the Lord is contemptible. Look at those words, bread and table? Another reason why I love the authorized version by the way, because there's just a preciousness and what we do for God. And there, oughta been a precious sniss and what these priests were doing for God. But they had lost that sensitivity. Brett, you think about Fellowship. You think about breaking bread. You think about communion a table, you think about times where you gather around, hey Mill times are some of the, some of the best times to have fellowship and I hope that you did that around the table of Fellowship. This past Thursday. You broke bread together now. Yeah, a turkey too. But it was the table that you came to. And so, the table here is representative of the altar. The sacrifices are represented of the bread, the bread in the table. The Lord says you are just going through the motions and your heart is so far from me. It's miles away from me. When what you should be doing, is communion with me. You've, you've become mechanical. It's supposed to be bred, not just a job. It's supposed to be the table of the Lord, which is special and you've made it contemptible. It's just another paycheck to you. Your service and your ministry. Since you despise you a steam little, you don't lay enough weight to my name and who I am the Lord sent you offer polluted bread unless that green speckled turkey or going to give the governor Hickenlooper, please don't ever do that by the way. But I'm just saying this is how the Lord's, feel wherein have we polluted in that? You say, the table of the Lord is contemptible contemptible We're having conversations about this a few weeks ago. I think it even came up in our public service is here brother. Mike and I were talking after service one day and he reference the song about being so busy in the work of the ministry that you lose sight of the word is the Marshall family. Is that right? And they have a song about that? And so that's what it happened here that become so mechanical that they they neglected that preciousness the closeness that they should have had with God because they got so busy and it became contemptible.
I just wonder how many. I don't even want to say pastors. I'll just say preachers or servants or Christian School teachers or somebody who is in the service of the Lord in whatever capacity maybe I wonder how many across this nation around the world have walked away from what they were doing for God at one time their heart was so on fire for it. They knew God had called him to it. They got into work and then before, you know it they're on the sidelines or they're off doing life somewhere else. They're not doing service to the Lord. You know, it would be almost commendable.
For them to be doing that. Whatever. It is a part from serving the lord rather than them staying in Ministry and trying to serve the Lord when it is just mechanical.
And there's so many factors into this is in there. What how does it become contemptible? It's kind of a catch-22. I almost see in this passage. I mean think about it. All right. Let me just pull it down for you this way. They're serving God. And the people that they're serving because serving God is serving people to the people that are serving are bringing garbage to God and they're giving trash in calling it calling it worship. And the people that are dealing this out now, they feel like the local garbage man, you know who these contemptible sacrifices that are coming at. They're letting the people get away with it too. By the way by the priests are just as guilty as the people the people are bringing refuse and the priests are saying well, I mean, it's better than nothing. We got to eat, right? So they're they're allowing it and then they sit down and they look at these sacrifices and they go and that's nasty.
Hello. You're dealing in garbage. What do you expect because the standard has been so low. That's something to think about in it. Let's think about serving the lord today. People give themselves to serve the Lord and they get in they find out. It's a bunch of garbage you get into churches in this bunch of garbage. I mean people just tear each other up one side and down the other people shooting each other and spitting each other out fighting amongst the Brethren and and there's no sweet Fellowship. We're not bearing one another's burdens. It's a free-for-all everybody for himself that which was right in his own eyes weird uncut that we joke inquiring over left ourselves. We just saying whatever anyway, that's beside the point every man did that which is right in his own eyes in the choir leader goes. I'm just kidding.
I totally derailed that we get into serving the lord and it becomes contemptible when we are are in the place like they are some Christian School teacher gets into a Christian School. There's nothing but trouble everywhere and and the kids that come that they're trying to to to minister and educate for the Lord and and try to pour Christ into them. All they get is garbage back from those kids. You think they want to stay there. No, they don't.
we come to church and we say we're going to give to God and we come and what we give is really contemptible and we wonder why. Why there aren't more missionaries going to the field. We wonder why there aren't more people saying I'll be a pastor. I'll be Christian School teacher. I'll do this.
That kind of hurts donut that hits home and some areas. When you're in it for the money. It's going to become contemptible. But when you're in it because you love the Lord with all your heart all your soul all your mind and all your strength. There's no content in it. So they don't have to be where they are. Spiritually they could be thriving. But they're not they had corrupted their service to God first number 7, they bring pollution in their polluting the sacred and then inverse number 8, they're bringing these unpleasant sacrifices these sacrifices. Don't please God. Inverse number 9 is pivotal in the Poetry really is amazing when you when you let it all out and you see who's who's saying what I kind of lean towards Malachi jumping in here at verse number nine kind of has that side, Tater saying hey wake up guys. priest give me your attention here. And now I pray you I am begging you you that serve the Lord I am begging you. Tipis each God I'm begging you to beg God you need to contact connect with him because you are disconnected. You need to get ahold of him because you need his grace boy. We need his grace don't we all need his grace we do but how much more when service to the Lord becomes contemptible. We're doing it for the money. We're not doing it for the Lord any more. It becomes a job with check in with check out we get it done and we get tired of waiting through the garbage that we have to go through all the time. That's not that's not pleasant and Ministries not pleasing to the Lord is not pleasing to the one who's serving. It's not pleasing to God's people because it's hindering them is hampering them. We need to rise above that and we need to get back to what God will be honored with he says he offered polluted Bret y'all for the blind for sacrifices. It's not evil as it's not purple as it's not just Wicked.
Told to file all the file. the table of the Lord
two places in Malachi Well in the Old Testament where you find that phrase the Lord's table.
I think we're looking at the altar here. I mentioned that earlier. But this is the table of the Lord. This is the altar as we sang. That song is your all on the altar of sacrifice laid metaphors. It's just rich with metaphors. I pray, you beseech. God for the purpose that he will be gracious unto us. So he closed himself in the number. The pronoun changes. It goes from I to us. That's why I think this is Malachi jumping in here, saying, you need to pray. You need to seek God. This has been your means, will he? Regard your persons said, the Lord of hosts. So now the Lord interjects and he's speaking again. So where does Malachi come in? That's a good thing to, to think about when you're reading this passage? Who is there even among you? That would shut the doors for not. So, we see the process of how they lost God's favor, and verses 9, and 10. What happened? How did they fall had? How do they get to the place where they were the spice in God's name, does phasing God himself. Is this how you do? This is your memes this how you got there. Really regard your person say the Lord of hosts. Who is there even among you that would shut the doors for not neither. Do you Kindle Fire on mine all turf or not? I have no pleasure in you.
Can you believe that?
That's heartbreaking. that the god of Heaven what utter the words?
I have no pleasure in you.
Without studying this I had a little altar Moment by my desk. It's Mommy now. I know he's riding priest. But man, some of this stuff just hits home.
Have I been guilty before of going through the motions? And not being connected to God like I should Hae. I wish I could tell you I was infallible and that I've always been, you know, as close to the Lord as I could be. That I've never allowed anything to come between me and him but if I told you that I'd be lying, And without the blood of Jesus Christ, I've got no hope and neither do you.
This is transparent. Hey, this is where it gets real. This is where we stop playing church, and we start saying God, you are right, you are so right and I am so wrong, forgive me Lord, forgive me. Oh Lord, may it never be that we want to live our lives and we want to come to the end of our journey. We want to hear those words. Well done. Will what if you stand before him and you hear the words I have no pleasure in you that's not the side of the equation. We like to think about what if you one day make shipwreck of your face. Paul was very concerned about that.
It's not all just peaches and cream in a better roses when we serve the Lord is hard work. It's labor and that Pilgrim he had a long journey Pilgrim's Progress John Bunyan's John Bunyan famous book. Pilgrim's Progress, you read that. And you see all that he went through. Yeah, that's a good description of the Christian Life. It's a race, it takes work, takes effort. Sometimes, what we do seems to be toil
foil is when you spend your time doing something and it doesn't work out it breaks. You do you build something? It falls apart without oil is part of the curse. Let's not spend our days toiling, because these priests are the epitome of toil. You want to talk about a worthless existence, you might look good everybody else. But when it comes to Eternal things and it comes to the Lord you got nothing to show for it. You got nothing but wood, hay and stubble and it's all going to get burned up your left with nothing but Ash you are going to hear the words. Well done thou good and faithful servant. You're going to hear the words they says here to them. I have no pleasure in you and Jesus said it this way. In Matthew chapter 7 about those, who would come before him one day and say, Lord, Lord, have we not done all these things in your name, and what in your name? We cast out Devils. We've done Miracles. We've done all of these things and we did it in your name. And what is the Lord going to tell them?
Depart from me ye that work iniquity iniquity means to twist you take God's truth and you twist it where they guilty of that? Yes. They took God's truth and they Twisted it. They rationalize their sin. They thought it was okay their hearts got hard. They rebelled against God and they were complacent in their sin. And God says I have no pleasure in you. God forbid. How did they get here? This is the process of losing God's favor. They need a recognized the condition and they need to repent of the cause recognize the condition verse number nine. This is where you're at. This is the means repent of the cause verse number 10. This is how you did it. You you're doing this for nothing and I have no pleasure in you. I'm not even going to accept an offering at your hand the exasperation. You mean there's nothing that you can bring to God at this point and he's going to he's going to turn his his thoughts. There's nothing that you can please him with there is no more sacrifice. There's nothing. at this point because they had trodden Under Foot his promise. And what do I see if we're guilty of trodden underfoot his promises? Oh, please hear me stay sensitive. Don't get hard through sin, stop rationalizing. What you're doing because it's suffering your relationship with God. Please are me. Stay soft. Don't come to the place where the Lord says I have. No pleasure. No, more sacrifice. There's nothing you can do for me that will please me there is nothing you can do that will please him. When you're to this point.
Hey, does that mean we just give up? No, because Malachi wouldn't be preaching to them if it was over. There's still hope remember he besought them. What do you say in verse 9? I pray, you beseech God. What's the answer turned in stop pretending stop going through the motions stopping mechanical. Soften your heart. Repent of the things that have come between you and him confess it forsake, it get it under, the blood there is hope. If you're still sucking wind, There's Hope
Don't give up on God. He didn't give up on you and he's giving you another chance through his word. He is calling out to you to say, it's not over yet. There's still time. God still has Mercy. He still has Grace but you have to repent for the cause that brought your fall from his favor.
Birth number 11 tells us about the power of His. Holy name. This is a beautiful verse. He says from the rising of the sun even unto the going down of the same my name now watch closely because it's in italics. My name shall be great among the Gentiles and in every place incense shall be offered unto my name and a pure offering for my name shall be great among the Heathen say at the Lord of hosts. Okay pastor. You said pay attention. You said it was in italics. What does it matter? Why is that so important because the King James translators have they have just helped you understand the Hebrew that's here. And you can thank God for that because it could be rendered in the present tense and some translations do that and they say my name is great. And if you take a translation like that, you're going to wind up right alongside Pope's and Catholics and other ecumenist who say it's already happened now, my name is great among the Heathen from the rising of the Sun to the going down of the same. See that use this as a proof text to say that that what people do in other religions, whether it's the Lord or whether it's Jehovah or whether it's Joe or whether it's however, you call God. This is how the Heathen give him reverence and God's going to be okay with that. If you take a present tense translation of this you're going to open the door for that kind of ecumenism.
But the authorized version here is nail it. It should be rendered this way in the future according to the Hebrew. How do we know that? Well, can you tell me any other place in the scriptures where this has been fulfilled right now? Look around us is his name great today or all the sacrifices that are being offered to God around the globe from the rising of the Sun to the going down anywhere that you would look on this Green Earth every sacrifice that's made to God is it pure?
It's not. It's not so this is future this if we go read Isaiah, we read the Prophecies of Isaiah and other places we find out that there is coming a day when his name shall be great. You know when that is it's during the millennial reign of Christ, which we haven't even seen the Fulfillment of that yet. This is still future for us just like it was future for them in their day. There is coming a day to think about this. My mind was just wondering in the greatness of God when I thought about this. I close my eyes for a minute. I picture of the sun coming up. And where I am in the Western Hemisphere here. I pictured it coming up in Japan, you know over the Over the Horizon of the Pacific Ocean looking out. Maybe I've never been there but just imagine what it would look like staying on the shores of Japan looking East the sun comes up and then you know, maybe looking west from the shores of Hawaii. Okay looking for specific waiting for the sun to go down over there and just thinking about everywhere around this. Earth people Praising God. Worshipping him in the beauty of Holiness, in a right way, worshiping the same God not Antichrist. I'm talking about the one true God Of Heaven. Having this entire Earth turns to him and giving him glory, his name shall be great, among the Gentiles. That's a prophecy that is that is to be fulfilled. Partially fulfilled through what the church has done and taking God's gospel to the Gentiles. But in every place in since she'll be offered under my name, and a pure offering for my name, shall be great. Among the Heathen, say the Lord of hosts I think I was weird to be pointed out that eight times in this passage. You see? The phrase, my name. 8 * in this section, you find the phrase. My name chapter 1 verse. Number 6, verse 11, verse 14, chapter 2, verse 2. Chapter 2, verse 5 chapter 3 verse 16 in chapter 4, verse number to 8 * references. My name.
They were supposed to be honoring God's name. And they are disgracing it and they're disgracing it before the people of the Lord.
The power of God's holy name there is power in who he is you believe that he's a powerful God. So he calls on them to request God's grace. They had Rob God's glory now. He tells them request God's Great the process of losing losing God's favor. How did you lose it? You need to recognize the condition that cause your fall from favor. You need to repent of the sin for that cause remember that God's name is powerful and stop profaning His holy name versus 12 to 13 verse 12. We see there was contemptuous service to God. I had already talked about this when people are bringing corrupt sacrifices and the Priester waiting through all the garbage and becomes contemptible. They don't want to do it there in a catch-22. They can't tell the people know because they've already allowed it and now they're dealing and all this mess and they don't they don't enjoy it. There's no pleasure in that is contemptible. They get up and they they go through their day and they call it a day and it's it's just it's no fun for me anymore Corruption of the sacrifices. So there's contemptuous service corruption in the sacrifices inverse. Number 13. He says behold, what a weariness is it You show me somebody who counts the Lord service contemptible and I'll show you one of the most tired people on the face of the planet. I mean we re just weary and it comes out I start rubbing off on you before long. And you start picking up on their disdain and on their contempt you get around somebody who is not really fellowshipping with God. They're just going through the motions to get around mechanical Christians and it won't be long before you're weary wisam. And it just wears you down. There's no joy in serving Jesus in that.
Corruption of the sacrifices it's a weariness you snuffed at you turn up your nose at it's how we might say today and this is the Lord of armies talking to him. It's the Lord of hosts. He brought that which was torn and the lame and the sick. Does she brought an offering should I accept this of your hand? Rhetorical question again, the obvious answer is no the Lord's. I'm going to accept that and then lastly the pronounce curse on the corrupt. You said cursed be the deceiver, which hathon is flakka mail invalid than sacrifice. It's under the Lord of corrupt thing for I am a great king.
Fibber McGee had a good comment on this passage. And if you'll bear with me, I'd like to read it to you just to know what he says. God was telling them that the offering they offered was really a picture of the Lord Jesus Christ. Who is the perfect Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world any imperfect offering wasn't insult to the Lord Jesus Christ In case they missed it in Leviticus God interprets the law form in Deuteronomy, 15 21 and if there be any blemish there in as if it be lame or blind or have any or blemish Thou shalt not sacrifice it unto the Lord that God. That what was happening in Malachi's day was something like this. Imagine. There's a man living up there in the Hill Country of Ephraim. He has prize cattle. He always gets the Blue Ribbon at the cattle show, but one day his prize bull become sick and he calls the veterinarian the veterinarian says, I don't think he's going to make it. I think he'll die. So the man says well, let's let him on the truck in a hurry and Rush him down to the temple where I'll offer him for a sacrifice when a man brings the bull to the temple. The priest can see the old bull is sick, but they go through with it because I mean, this is very prominent fellow he lives up in Ephraim you see and when the people see this prize Blue Ribbon bull being offered they say mr. Song. So, I mean sure he sure is a generous fellow man. Look at look at what he's offering to the Lord.
What do we do today? He says that corresponds to that which was taking place in Israel in Malachi's day. Remember that the Apostle Paul describe the men in the last days as having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof recorded 2nd Timothy 3:5 middle be very Pious. There's a great deal of Papa's Pius that is demonstrated by so by many so-called Christians today Paul describes him as having a form of godliness you can pour Oleomargarine into a butter mold and it may look like butter. It may even smell like butter, but it's not butter. I think you just a friend and I think he likes to eat butter on his biscuits, don't you? You probably heard the old story of the very stingy man who gave his wife a mink coat, at least it was supposed to be a mink coat. No one could understand why this man would be so generous until one day when he and his wife went walking down the street as they passed a rabbit Hound coat jumped off and his wife started running. It just happened to be a rabbit. You see, it's not a mink.
danger danger danger hell of Jay Vernon McGee that's classic. Thought she was wearing a mink coat. Hey, we thought we were giving the Lord a good sacrifice, but it turns out to be contemptuous. What are we giving to God? Is it worthy of his glory? Is it worthy of his glory cursed be the deceiver? Hey, don't lie to God. You ain't fooling anybody but yourself. We need to give God our best.
Think about these thoughts as we close our study. These priests had become so insensitive to their sin. How are you when it comes to sensitivity to send do you see it the way God does or have you rationalize that the way they were doing they became so insensitive to their sin. They actually started rationalizing it which culminated in Rebellion through the hardness of their hearts by this time. They are stinking Rebels before God and Rebellion is as the sin of Witchcraft. They are blatantly rebelling and they probably got here in a progression than they didn't start it in wake up one morning and decide. Oh, I'm just going to rebell against gone today know they became insensitive. They rationalized sin and then they rebelled. And I thought God was okay with what they were doing Hardness of Heart when we become so numb we get so past feeling as to the devastating effects of our sin. We're going to easily begin to rationalize or blatant disregard for God's word are blatant disrespect for God's will being done. Our hearts are going to get hard. Our necks are going to get stiff until. We have to have a little blood shed behind the Woodshed in the Lord takes us out and Hebrews chapter 12 we go through a little chastening because if we're a sign he chastens and if we're loved of God, did, you know God loves you. He does we talked about that verses 1 through 5. Don't forget God loves you, but whom he loveth he chasteneth?
And if you're being chasing of God, you can count that as a promise that you belong to him. If it doesn't bother you and you never experiencing chastening for the saint that you commit then I would begin to wonder. I can't stand in judgment. I don't know who's saving who's not but if you've never been chastened by God for anything you've done I would wonder if you even belong to him. I really would I would start there and at least try to get that settled don't get numb. Don't get past feeling don't step in your neck. Don't bring the Lord's displeasure.
How would any reasonable father how would any reasonable employer? How would Governor Hickenlooper handle you bringing it tainted turkey to his Thanksgiving dinner offer to your Governor. Will they accept it? He said go take it in the Amaya. Is he going to accept what you're trying to get to got? No and neither should we expect any reasonable father any reasonable employer to put up with the same garbage? They're trying to give God and they think they're going to get away with it. Should we expect the Lord to turn a blind eye to our iniquities? Should you expect him to just pretend like that never happened? And then you come and try to serve him like nothing is between you and him know. He's not going to turn a blind eye to your iniquities.
But he laid every single one of them on Jesus Christ.
He bore our infirmities our sins were laid upon him and by his stripes we are healed there is nothing you can do to please God apart from accepting the Lamb of God that taketh away the sins of the world There's Hope through Jesus Christ and through his shed blood alone because he bore the brunt of God's Wrath for how much you have displeased and whether you're saved whether you're you're lost Jesus Christ, his blood is efficacious.
