Teaching: This sermon teaches children that Jesus embodies love, power, and wisdom, encouraging them to see His role as both Savior and friend who walks alongside them in every situation.
How this passage could point to Christ: Jesus is revealed throughout Scripture as the fulfillment of God's promises, the King of Kings, and the ultimate example of love. His life and teachings provide a blueprint for how we should live and love others.
Recommended Study: While preparing this sermon, you might find it helpful to use your Logos library to research how different authors in the New Testament articulate Jesus's identity. Look for children-friendly resources that explain complex concepts in simple language. It might also be beneficial to investigate how Jesus's identity influenced His actions as recorded in the Gospels, enhancing your understanding of His teachings for the children.
Big Idea: Understanding who Jesus is empowers us to live courageously and faithfully, trusting in His wisdom and presence in every aspect of our lives as we navigate our daily challenges and joys.
Application: By grasping the identity of Jesus, children can find assurance in His guidance and support through life's challenges, instilling a desire to seek Him in prayer and worship.

1. Professing Jesus's True Identity

Matthew 16:13-16
You could illustrate how Jesus is the Christ by discussing Peter’s confession of Jesus in these verses. Explain to the children that just as Peter knew who Jesus truly was, they too can know Jesus as their Savior and friend. Perhaps use stories or analogies that children understand, drawing them closer to the idea of Jesus being constantly present and loving, someone they can always turn to.

2. Picturing Jesus as Protector

John 10:14-15
Maybe explore the idea of Jesus as the Good Shepherd, who knows His sheep (us) personally and protects them. You could suggest how kids might imagine Jesus guiding them like a shepherd, comforting them through fears and guiding through their choices. Highlight Jesus’s loving nature and encourage the children to lean on Him, trusting His safe guidance as they navigate through growing up, learning, and making friends.
