Our Spiritual Armor
Jesus told us that just before His return, the world will get pretty wild. He said it like this.
He said it would be like the days of Noah.
Matthew 24:37 (NKJV) 37 But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.
Genesis 6:5 (NKJV) 5 Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
So if we are living in the last of the last days, then we need to be spiritually ready.
This is why I’m doing this series on the armor of God.
Look with me at Eph. 6:10
Ephesians 6:10–20 (NKJV) 10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—19 and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.
Some make spiritual things so weird that people don’t want to even hear what they say. Yet I believe that Jesus was the most Spiritual person there ever was, and people ran to Him.
In the writings of the Prophet Isaiah, he brings out about the messiah to come.
Isaiah 59:15–17 (NKJV) 15 So truth fails, And he who departs from evil makes himself a prey. Then the Lord saw it, and it displeased Him That there was no justice. 16 He saw that there was no man, And wondered that there was no intercessor; Therefore His own arm brought salvation for Him; And His own righteousness, it sustained Him. 17 For He put on righteousness as a breastplate, And a helmet of salvation on His head; He put on the garments of vengeance for clothing, And was clad with zeal as a cloak.
Let’s not get so heavenly minded that were no earthly good.
Let’s look at the armor that if you are in Christ, you have on right now.
Ephesians 6:10 (NKJV) 10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.
Ephesians 6:11 (NKJV) 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
How do you put it on, by being IN HIM.
Were not fighting people, but spirits behind people.
Ephesians 6:12 (NKJV) 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
Ephesians 6:13 (NKJV) 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Take it, know your rights and privileges in Christ Jesus.
Now let’s look at each piece of the armor.
Ephesians 6:14 (NKJV) 14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness,
Having done all to stand, STAND Therefore.
This is and old military phase that means, after you won a battle, be ready for another one.
1. Ephesians 6:14a (NKJV) Having girded your waist with truth.
Jesus said something about His word.
John 17:17 (NKJV) 17 Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.
Ephesians 5:26 (NKJV) 26 that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word,
2. Ephesians 6:14b (NKJV) having put on the breastplate of righteousness,
Well, who is our righteousness, Jesus.
1 Corinthians 1:30 (NKJV) 30 But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God—and righteousness and sanctification and redemption—
2 Corinthians 5:21 (NKJV) 21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
3. Ephesians 6:15 (NKJV) 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
Romans 10:15 (NKJV) 15 And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good things!”
Isaiah 52:7 (NKJV) 7 How beautiful upon the mountains Are the feet of him who brings good news, Who proclaims peace, Who brings glad tidings of good things, Who proclaims salvation, Who says to Zion, “Your God reigns!”
4. Ephesians 6:16 (NKJV) 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.
1 John 5:4–5 (NKJV) 4 For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. 5 Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
Were does faith come from:
Romans 10:17 (NKJV) 17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
5. Ephesians 6:17a (NKJV) 17 And take the helmet of salvation,
How are we saved, by the word of God.
Romans 10:8–13 (NKJV) 8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach): 9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. 13 For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
6. Eph. 6:17 b. and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;
Hebrews 4:12–13 (NKJV) 12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. 13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.
7. Ephesians 6:18 (NKJV) 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—
Prayer is a vital part of our spiritual armor.
Luke 18:1 (NKJV) 1 Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart,
1 Thessalonians 5:17–18 (NKJV) 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
Colossians 1:3 (NKJV) 3 We give thanks to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you,
Each day, remember that if you are in Christ, then you have on the ARMOR OF GOD.
