2 Timothy 4:6–8 (NKJV)

“For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.”

Introduction

Finishing strong isn’t just about how you begin the race of faith—it’s about how you end it. Paul, writing from a Roman prison, knew his life was nearing its end, but his final words are filled with victory and assurance. His example encourages every believer to live faithfully and end well.

The Past: “I have fought the good fight”

The Present: “There is laid up for me...”

The Future: “The Lord will give... on that Day”

1. The Past — A Life Well Lived

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” (v.7)

Faithfulness in Struggle: Paul likens his life to a fight and a race—not easy or comfortable, but full of purpose.

Perseverance: He didn't give up, even when the path was hard.

Integrity: He didn’t just run the race—he kept the faith.

2. The Present — A Confident Hope

“There is laid up for me the crown of righteousness...” (v.8a)

Peace in the Face of Death: Though facing execution, Paul has no fear, only hope.

Ask God for the strength to finish strong.

Prayer: Lord, help me to live with the end in mind. Give me the strength to fight the good fight, run my race faithfully, and keep the faith through every season. May I, like Paul, finish strong and look forward to the crown You promise to those who love Your appearing. Amen.
