What Does Supplication Mean?
What Does Supplication Mean?
A. δέησις (deēsis). n. fem. entreaty, request, plea, prayer. Refers primarily to a petitionary prayer. This noun is related to the verb δέομαι (deomai, “to beg”). It occurs with the verbs προσεύχομαι (proseuchomai, “to pray”; Eph 6:18) and ποιέω (poieō, “to make”; Luke 5:33; Phil 1:4), and has a slightly more petitionary sense than the more general προσευχή (proseuchē, “prayer”; see Phil 4:6 where both words occur together). Deēsis is not used in the nt to refer to requests made to people.
1.Supplicatoin means to bring a petition to God
2. This is another channel in prayer
3. Supplication is usually more heartfelt than just prayer; generally talking to God
4.Prayer and supplication usually goes hand in hand, how many times have you just been talking to God and you start to ask him questions and start petitioning him for needs of yourself or others
5. But at its heart supplication means to bring your need before God
Supplication is done with emotion

How can understanding the definition of supplication change the way you approach prayer?
“From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members? Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.”James 4:1-2 KJV
Philippians 4:6–7 “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
God wants us to pray about EVERYTHING
How is the concept of intercession related to supplication according to the sermon?
“For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.”
Mark 11:23-24 KJV
As long as we pray in the will of God
“These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: and if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.”
1 John 5:13-15 KJV
What does the sermon suggest is the relationship between faith and supplication?
How can remembering God’s faithfulness influence your approach to supplication?
Luke 18:1–8 “And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint; Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man: And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary. And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man; Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me. And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith. And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?” “And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint; Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man: And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary. And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with…”
