Turn to Matthew 6:25-34
This evening we are going to be taking a look at a portion of scripture right out of the sermon on the mount
and within this section of scripture we are going to find a truth that we all need to be applying to our lives this evening
in a world which seems to be going crazy each and every single day its real easy to get caught up in anxiety and fear is it not?
And Pastor Gerber this past sunday night did an amazing job and if you were not there you missed a true blessing but learning how to faith it through storms
well tonight I want to talk to you a few moments on the each and everyday of your life
Tonight what I want us to look at is how to have a worry-free life and how to trust God in every season
Pray
Read Matthew 6:25-34
Within this section of scripture we are going to see three different things that we need to pay close attention to in our lives
1. Perspective: Life Over Loss
1. Perspective: Life Over Loss
Matthew 6:25-27
notice here right from the get go where Jesus immediately reminds us of the basic needs we have in life Whether that be food/water/clothing or whatever it may be
Jesus now will point out the futility in worrying about these things
Jesus makes a great point here in verse 25 and it is to shape and mold our perspective
He simply says is life not more than these things?
Simply stating that there is more to life than the next meal and what are we gonna wear tomorrow
Using an example of the birds he states that they don’t sow or reap or worry and yet God still provides for them
and makes us to understand how much more are we than they
God thinks highly enough of his creation to protect and provide for them and even at creation he called it good
But for you and I as children of His when man was created we were called very good and if God takes care of his creation how much more will he care for His children
And as he closes this section Jesus states how can a man add one cubit to his stature
its a rhetorical question He knows no man can add to his natural stature so why worry about it
One thing that he is clearly trying to get them here to understand is that worry doesn't do very much for us if anything it makes us more miserable
so we know God cares for His creation so we must change our perspective from what we are lacking to what he has blessed us with
2. Perception: Beauty Beyond Belief
2. Perception: Beauty Beyond Belief
Matthew 6:28-30
In this section of scripture Jesus Carries on now moving from the food and shelter and now moves into discussing about clothing
Christ uses the illustration of the lilies of the field and its quite and interesting thing when you consider this
A writer once put it this way
We should also consider the lilies of the field. They grow and yet don’t have to work to produce their clothing (Matthew 6:28). “And Yet I say unto you” Jesus stresses, “That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these” (verse 29). The lilies of the field are here today and gone tomorrow, explains Jesus. If God cares so tenderly for short-lived wildflowers, how much more will He care for us who are of great value to Him (verse 30)? Not only does Jesus encourage us to trust in our heavenly Father, but He also affirms our great worth in God’s eyes.
See God rounds out this section to really get us into check here
He uses these basic needs which in this time were crucially important to live with food and clothing
but yet so easily you can fit things of today here for application such as “rent, power, Water, where we are going to live”
so on and so forth the many needs and worries that we have which ultimately are pointless why?
Because if God cares for the least of the things of this world how much more will he care and look after one of his children
See what God wants us to see here or wants us to perceive is this very truth that if God cares for the wildflowers in the field or the birds of the air’s needs then why wont he help us with ours
He wraps this section up by saying ye of little faith and this is not a condescending thing to say its more of a question he is phrasing by simply saying do you not trust me?
so my friends this evening let us put off worrying and put on faith and put on trust in the master because He cares for you
3. Priority: Seek First Sovereignty
3. Priority: Seek First Sovereignty
Matthew 6:31-34
Here in this last section of this teaching Jesus is going to bring this all to a head and make sure that our priorities are set straight
He says now do not worry about the necessites of this life because why?
your Heavenly Father already knows the things that you need
But simply he states make your priority the things of the kingdom of God see it first and Gods righteousness and God will make sure all your needs are met
Simply live your life on mission for Christ and all your needs will be provided.
This isn't a well if you do this it could or it might happen no this is a promise from God if you focus on the right things God will provide your very needs
see surrendering our anxieties in exchange for trust in God's timing and sovereignty transforms our lives.
and lastly one thing Jesus makes sure you know about is dont worry about tomorrow
Truly each day we live is in the Gods hands and in his control and the moment we stop worrying about each and every day we can truly see there is so much more we can do than waste our time worrying about every little thing
it reminds me of the verse cast your cares upon him because he cares for you
truly God cares for each of us here tonight and if he cares for the least of these how much more will he care for you
in closing I heard a story of a Christian couple who was entrepreneurs who were facing financial crisis in their life Just mere days from losing it all because they didn't have enough money from paying their bills they needed just $600 dollars in order to suffice the payment and it came to it one day where it seemed that all hope was lost until the husband told the wife he said lets go look in the mailbox maybe and order has come through for enough to cover the cost and the wife said there is no way that could be possible they never had an order like that well they get to the mailbox and the husband opens it up and sure enough there was a envelope from the bank of Tokyo The man held the envelope up to the sunlight and saw that it was a check he opened up and to his surprise there was and order form for $610 worth of their product Not only was their bill paid but God had supplied more than they originally needed
see when we trust in him for our needs and we seek first his kingdom the blessing that we will reap is tremendous we may not have alot of money here on earth and that is ok but as his children we are laying up a fortune to soon be inherited in his Kingdom
so my friends this week let us not worry about things of this life but may we focus our priorities on severing Christ
Pray
