Read Aloud: 1 Corinthians 2:6–16 (Encourage participants to follow along in their Bibles.)

Key Observations:

God’s Wisdom is Not of This Age (vv. 6–8):

Paul distinguishes spiritual wisdom from worldly wisdom.

The rulers of this world (likely both political and spiritual powers) didn’t understand this wisdom—if they had, they wouldn’t have crucified Christ.

God Reveals Deep Things Through the Spirit (vv. 9–12):

Verse 9 is often quoted (“Eye has not seen…”), but verse 10 reveals that God has revealed these things by His Spirit.

The Spirit knows God fully and reveals His truth to believers.

The Spiritual vs. the Natural Person (vv. 13–16):

The natural person (without the Spirit) cannot understand spiritual truths.

The spiritual person discerns truth because they are taught by the Spirit and have “the mind of Christ.”

Teaching Points:

God’s wisdom is revealed, not achieved.

The Holy Spirit is our teacher, not merely our emotional guide.

Spiritual discernment requires spiritual birth.

Ask God to open our spiritual eyes and ears, and to deepen our dependence on the Holy Spirit.

Thank God for giving us His Spirit to reveal truth.

Ask the Spirit to increase our discernment and wisdom.

Repent for ways we’ve relied on human wisdom over God’s.

Pray for others in the group to hear and follow the Spirit’s leading in their lives.

Warm-Up Question:

What’s a piece of “worldly wisdom” you’ve heard that sounds good but contradicts God’s wisdom?

Discussion Questions:

Verse 7 says God’s wisdom is a “mystery.” What does that mean, and how does the Spirit help us understand it?

Follow-up: Have you ever had a moment where the Spirit helped you understand something in Scripture you hadn’t seen before?

In what areas of your life are you most tempted to lean on worldly wisdom instead of God’s?

Finances? Relationships? Parenting? Career?

How can we grow in our ability to “discern spiritually”?

What habits, practices, or disciplines help cultivate spiritual discernment?

Paul says we “have the mind of Christ.” What does that mean practically for our day-to-day lives?

How should this impact how we respond to difficult situations?

Why is it important to remember that the “natural person” doesn’t understand the things of the Spirit?

How does this affect the way we witness or disciple others?

God’s wisdom isn’t hidden from us—it’s hidden for us, revealed by the Spirit to those who are listening.

“Holy Spirit, teach me something I wouldn’t understand without You.”

Then journal what you sense God showing you.
