last week we discussed who the Holy Spirit is and what He does
Tonight I want to talk about being led by the Holy Spirit
Galatians 5:13-26 (NIV)
13 You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. 14 For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” 15 If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other. 16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.

Paul is addressing Christians in the region of Galatia and he is bringing correction to problem
These Christians are being deceived
Judaizers where jewish missionaries preaching a false gospel of works.
Circumcision was a big thing - To a jew this was a symbol that they where a child of God. They where bringing this theology into the church and the church was falling for it
it was a works based messaged and completely contradicted the work of God
Problem #1: You can believe Jesus and still choose not to be Spirit-led
Problem #1: You can believe Jesus and still choose not to be Spirit-led
This passage confirms a problem that the church in Galatia faced and is still very real today - You can believe Jesus and still choose to not be Spirit-led
Example to illustrate this problem:
Example to illustrate this problem:
You can have a wife and choose not to kiss her
You can own a Ferrari and choose not to drive it
You can go to church and feel conviction and choose not to listen to it...
Why where they deceived? Here are some common pitfalls we can face -
Why where they deceived? Here are some common pitfalls we can face -
Problem #2 They didn’t understand the gospel
Problem #2 They didn’t understand the gospel
Christ didn’t die so you could earn your way into heaven!!
Because they didn’t understand that they where easily deceived
Romans 16:17-18 (NLT
17 And now I make one more appeal, my dear brothers and sisters. Watch out for people who cause divisions and upset people’s faith by teaching things contrary to what you have been taught. Stay away from them. 18 Such people are not serving Christ our Lord; they are serving their own personal interests. By smooth talk and glowing words they deceive innocent people.
This is why it’s important to have a reputable teacher - CHURCH (NOT TIKTOK)
Read your Bible
This is why it is important to discern. Deceivers are selfish. When you are in the flesh and not the spirit you can only live for self. look out for that...
Problem #3 They didn’t understand God’s heart
Problem #3 They didn’t understand God’s heart
Problem #4 They put their faith in works of the flesh rather than God
Problem #4 They put their faith in works of the flesh rather than God
Merit makes sence to us because It’s natural
God is calling us to the supernatural and sometimes that doesn’t always make sense
The gospel is backwards and upside down - it doesn’t make since that God died for me while I was still a sinner who betrayed God and deserves death. But He did it.

The impact of these problems is you will not be Spirit Led & ultimately fail.
The impact of these problems is you will not be Spirit Led & ultimately fail.
This is why Paul elaborates in verse 19 the acts of the flesh. Because if you put your faith in the flesh and are led by the flesh it is inevitable you will fall short
You remove yourself from the inheritance of the Kingdom because you choose to live a life of destruction
Scary Verse (verse 21) - “...I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Freedom in Christ doesn’t mean we can take advantage of Grace and live however we want their is no order in that.
Spiritual freedom is not the absence of boundaries
Example to illustrate
In football you can’t go out of bounds and then into the end zone
Challenge the assumption
When you live your life completely for Christ you are not missing out on what Life has to offer. You are receiving life.
What do we do?
What do we do?
Surrender your life wholeheartedly to God
perhaps you are frustrated because you havn’t wholeheartedly surrendered
Make it practical:
Make it practical:
Galatians 5:25(NIV)
25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.
Surrender looks like keeping in step with God regardless of adversity
“Keep in step” is marching language (usually used for armies in the day)
Marching Band - Drum majors are tasked with keeping an entire marching band in step and on the beat.
Although here is alot going on aruond the band if they focus on the Drum Major they will be where they need to be and doing what they need to be doing
Adversity is not the absence of God’s Spirit it is an opportunity for you to remain in Him
The fruit of the Spirit is not the result of your hard work. Its the biproduct of the source you are connected too!
“To ‘walk by the Spirit’ is to discover god’s view on a matter, decide to act on that divine perspective, and depend on the Holy Spirit to empower your obedience” - Dr. Tony Evans
Surrender looks like making your walk with God a lifestyle and not just an occasion
Sundays and Wednesdays
Surrender looks like serving and loving others above your self
Christ died for us
Christ loved us
Christ served us
Be like Christ
