Matthew 11:28–30 CSB
28 “Come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, because I am lowly and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Intro:

I returned to Michigan in 2016 and I meet Sister Bertha very early in my time in Michigan because sister Bertha attended Wednesday night bible study.
After bible study we would circle up and pray during this time I would ask for prayer request. Sister Bertha would always put Nakita for prayer. So we would pray for her health issues and any other general issues.
To my surprise one Sunday in 2022 I finally meet Nakita as she came to church. I told her “we been praying for you!”
Since that time she joined church and went through New Members Class. She came to church when she was well even when you can tell she was struggling to get to church she came.
It was a Joy to see her on Sunday. She always sat to my right near sister Bertha
One thing you could see on Nakita face even when she was happy was the physical issues were taking a toll on her life. Even after her Spiritual Healing she still had the Physical issues.

I. Jesus says Come

(EXP)(28) Jesus issues a universal call to the crowd. He says “Come” Jesus is preaching in the towns that his disciples came from. There would be large crowds listening to him preach. Just prior to this last statement by Jesus he says:
Thank you Father for hiding this teaching from the arrogant and intelligent and instead revealed it to “infants” I believe in this verse (25) God is not talking about babies but Infants is being used as a metaphor for those who are dependent and open to the truth of the gospel.
In Other words the only people who will actually received the Gospel and accept are those who are open to being rebuked, change, and molded from the gospel.
Hard headed people will never receive the Gospel because they believe they are not in need of Jesus. The are dying and see no need for a solution to their problem because they believe they can handle things on their own.
(28) The call is universal but the Lord understood everyone is not going to receive the call because of the stubbornness of their heart, yet he gives the call anyway.
(28) Jesus then qualifies the call. He says Come “all of you who are weary and burdened” Jesus in his omniscience knows that the only people who will actually respond to the gospel call are those “who are just tired”
You will noticed the weariness is tied to carrying a burden.
Jesus calling those who are tired from carrying a burden that can’t bear anymore.
In the case of those he is talking to Jesus is refering to those who were trying to keep all of the laws of Moses plus the laws of the Pharisees and have become burdened by their own humanity and their inability to live up to a standard they can never meet.
Did you come here today tired?
Some of you are tired because of physical ailments
Some of you are tired because of relational ailments
Some of you are tired because of occupational ailments
Some of you are tired because of spiritual ailments.
God uses all these ailments for you to recognize your own humanity and your inability to carry the world on your shoulders.
Run to him no matter what the ailment is.
The only question I have for you is “Are you tired?”
Notice what Jesus promises to the weary and heavy burdened
Matthew 11:28 CSB
28 “Come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
(28) He says I will give you rest.
Earlier I name all the place we have ailments and burden’s. God uses all these areas to push you towards the “Spiritual” the Spirtual is where all of our ailments start at.
We are all sinners In need of God.
The reason our bodies don’t always work right “sin”
The reason we have relational conflict “sin”
The reason we have workplace strife “sin”
The reason we can sense spiritual heaviness and burdens is because of “sin”
The sin we commit and the sin committed against us.
The reason our world we live in is wrought with pain, suffering, war, and global chaos is because of sin.
Jesus is offering “rest for your soul!”
Rest: To cease from working
Jesus is talking to an audience that he is about to die for. In his death Jesus solved all of our primary issues. And that is sin has seperated us from God. Jesus in his death closes the gap between us and God by dying for our sins.
We no longer have to carry the sin burden because Jesus “bore our sins in body”
2 Corinthians 5:21 CSB
21 He made the one who did not know sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
Family if you refuse this gift the burden you are carrying is only going to get heavier and when you die it won’t be a relief it will become unbearable because you will not have the offer from Jesus anymore to carry if for you.
Jesus does have a request?

II. Jesus says Take

Matthew 11:29 CSB
29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, because I am lowly and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
(EXP)(29) Jesus take my “yoke”
What is a yoke?
It is a weight across the back of something.
In the ancient world. A son was responsible to sit at the feet of his father an learn from him. To take all that his father teaches him and follow it. To be so much like his father in character that you could not tell the difference from the Father and the son.
Jesus is telling everyone who is willing to take up his “yoke” which is a Father and Son “yoke” Salvation is a commitment to be taught, mentored, and shape by Jesus. His “yoke” is easier because you no longer have to worry about sin, which is an unfixable problem.
Oh sure you will still have: Physical Issues, Relational Issues, and Workplace issues but since your Spiritual Issues have been handle by God you can now bring the power of Jesus to all of your issues. You are not alone fighting these issues you are now fighting them with the King of all Kings on your side.
Jesus then tells us why he acts the way he does?
(29) “Because” “I am lowly and humbly in heart”
The word “lowly” means “gentle & kind” what a powerful truth. The King of all Kings who has every right to be domineering is “lowly” in heart. Call’s you to himself.
and he reminds again “and you will find rest for your souls” Jesus is pleading with the crowd now.
Matthew 11:30 CSB
30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
What does Jesus final statement imply about this life we live?
Choose your burden!!!
You will either Choose to keep carrying all of your sins, traumas, pains, and problems on your own or:
You will exchange your burdens for the burden of being Saved, Adopted, taught and trained by Jesus.
One will lead to Eternal Seperation from God and the other will lead to Eternal Paradise with God.
Choose your burden!!!
If you are here today and in need of a Savior please don’t leave without it.
Nakita recieved her Spiritual healing in 2022 but he got her Physical Healing on 6/3/2025
For as much as it has pleased Almighty God to take out of this world the soul of Nakita Keys-Smith, we therefore commit her body to the ground, earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust, looking for that blessed hope when the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God, and the dead in Christ shall rise first. Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so shall we ever be with the Lord, wherefore comfort ye one another with these words.
