Acts 27:1-12 - Who Are You Listening To?

旅は喜びから始まる

使徒の働き27章で、ついに法廷を後にします。何章にもわたる裁判と法的手続きを経て、パウロはカイザルに上訴した後、ローマへ向かいます。旅は美しく始まります。パウロは忠実な友人ルカとアリスタルコと共に旅をし、百人隊長ユリウスは彼を親切に扱い、最初の寄港地シドンで友人を訪問することまで許可しました。

## 三つの危険な罠

残念ながら、百人隊長はパウロのアドバイスを無視し、三つの一般的な罠に陥りました：

専門家の罠：船の船長は、より良い港であるフェニクスまで航海できると主張しました。百人隊長は、パウロの霊的な洞察よりも専門家の経験を信頼しました。専門知識は価値がありますが、専門家でも間違いを犯すことがあります。経験は成功を保証しません。

お金の罠：船の所有者は、不十分な港で冬を過ごすことで自分の船と積荷を危険にさらしたくありませんでした。経済的損失への恐れが決定を左右しました。「すでにこれだけ投資している。今やめるわけにはいかない」という考えでした。

多数派の罠：船上のほとんどの人が、美しい港で冬を過ごすよりも続行することに投票しました。彼らはフェニクスで得られる快適さと娯楽を求めました。しかし、イエスは門は狭く、道は険しいが命に至り、広い門と易しい道は滅びに至ると警告されました。

重要な質問

百人隊長は、難破と危険につながる悪い選択をしました。しかし、悪い決定でさえも神の恵みによって回復されることがあります。その難破は最終的に、イエスについて聞く準備ができている人々がいる島にパウロを導きました。

この真理を覚えておく

悪い選択をするとき（そして私たちは皆そうします）、絶望する必要はありません。神は私たちの間違いさえも取り上げて、善のために変えることができます。鍵は正しい声に耳を傾けることを学ぶことです：聖書、聖霊、そして神の御言葉と一致する敬虔な助言です。

誰があなたの決定に影響を与えているかを注意深く考えてください。あなたは専門家の罠、お金の罠、多数派の罠に陥っていませんか？それとも前進の道のために神の知恵と洞察を求めていますか？

Have you ever taken someone's advice and later regretted it? Years ago, a friend told me about a "really easy, quick way to get into Naha" - a road that was always open, even during morning rush hour. I started using this route daily for work, amazed at how few cars were on it. The drive was smooth until one day we encountered five police cars. The officer asked me a simple question: "Why are you driving in a bus lane?" That amazing advice suddenly became very bad advice.

This experience reminds us of an important truth: who you listen to determines where you end up. This applies not only to driving directions but to every area of life, especially our spiritual journey.

The Journey Begins with Delight

In Acts 27, we finally leave the courtroom behind. After chapters of trials and legal proceedings, Paul is on his way to Rome after appealing to Caesar. The journey starts beautifully - Paul travels with faithful friends Luke and Aristarchus, and the centurion Julius treats him kindly, even allowing him to visit friends at their first stop in Sidon.

After two years in prison, Paul must have felt excited. God had promised to take him to Rome, and now that promise was becoming reality. When we step out in faith to follow God's direction, it often begins with excitement and anticipation.

From Delight to Difficulty to Danger

However, as they continued their journey, things became challenging. The winds worked against them constantly, making progress slow and frustrating. They switched ships at Myra, hoping for a faster route, but the difficulties continued. They couldn't reach their intended winter harbor at Cnidus and had to settle for Fair Havens on Crete.

This pattern is common in our walk with faith. We start with excitement, but then enter seasons where everything seems to push against us. Remember when Jesus told his disciples to cross the Sea of Galilee? He fell asleep while a storm threatened to sink their boat. When they woke him in panic, he calmed the storm and asked, "Where is your faith?" Jesus had said they were going to the other side - didn't they believe him?

When difficulties arise in our obedience to God, these are opportunities to trust and be patient, not reasons to doubt his direction.

The Danger of Ignoring Godly Discernment

As winter approached, making sea travel dangerous, Paul spoke up with discernment. He told the centurion and ship's officers, "I perceive that the voyage will be with injury and much loss, not only of the cargo and the ship, but also of our lives."

Paul had insight that others lacked. Discernment is the ability to see beyond the surface - to perceive what's really happening behind the scenes. Proverbs 4:7 tells us, "The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom, and whatever you get, get insight."

Three Dangerous Traps

Unfortunately, the centurion ignored Paul's advice and fell into three common traps:

The Expert Trap: The ship's captain claimed he could navigate to Phoenix, a better harbor just around the coast. The centurion trusted the expert's experience over Paul's spiritual discernment. While expertise is valuable, even experts can make mistakes. Experience doesn't guarantee success.

The Money Trap: The ship's owner didn't want to risk his vessel and cargo spending winter in an inadequate harbor. Fear of financial loss drove the decision. The thinking was, "I've already invested so much - I can't stop now."

The Majority Trap: Most people on the ship voted to continue rather than winter in Fair Havens. They wanted comfort and entertainment available in Phoenix. But Jesus warned us that the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, while the wide gate and easy way leads to destruction.

The Question That Matters

This brings us to the crucial question: Who are you listening to in your life? Where do you find advice for moving forward? Whether it's family, friends, coworkers, or voices online, we need to evaluate whether that advice aligns with Scripture and the Holy Spirit's leading in our lives.

The centurion made a poor choice that led to shipwreck and danger. Yet even bad decisions can be redeemed by God's grace. That shipwreck eventually brought Paul to an island where people were ready to hear about Jesus.

Remember This Truth

When we make poor choices - and we all do - we don't need to despair. God can take even our mistakes and turn them around for good. The key is learning to listen to the right voices: Scripture, the Holy Spirit, and godly counsel that aligns with God's Word.

Consider carefully who influences your decisions. Are you falling into the expert trap, the money trap, or the majority trap? Or are you seeking God's wisdom and discernment for the path ahead?
