The same could be said about Gospel Music and any music we play and sing in church.
But, also, the same is true for the song that generates from you heart as you worship God. That although you have a praise from back then. You should have a praise for right now. (Preach)
1. Celebrate God’s Goodness (v.1-3)
1. Celebrate God’s Goodness (v.1-3)
The Hebrews would sing both as celebration and as commeration. We don’t just sing to remember we sing to praise for what God has done and doing now. Yes sing that he freed us from bondage but we also sing because hell free us again (run). And we sing to the LORD as well, not just about Him.
2. Consider God’s Greatness (v.4-6)
2. Consider God’s Greatness (v.4-6)
“For Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised...” Meaning big in size or number or importance. God is that. The LORD is great. The testiomony is one of experiance. His good news of salvation is real. What this great God has done has qualified him for a great praise. (Preach and let me tell you when you consider how GREAT God is it it will help you to understand how small some things are in your life)
“He is to be feared above all gods...for all the gods of the people are idols” But God made the heavens.
3. Command to Worship God (v.7-9)
3. Command to Worship God (v.7-9)
Ascribe=Give
glory and strength
Worship in Giving-offering
Worship (Bow in humble Submisson) the LORD in Holy Attire-(Splendor of holiness)
4. Confidence in God’s Coming (v.10-13)
4. Confidence in God’s Coming (v.10-13)
The LORD reigns. God is over all. This is comforting and possibly troubling at the same time. That God is reigns. In the text we aren’t sure the date or the author of this Psalm, but what we do know is that when David danced before the LORD, when the ark of the presence of the LORD was being brought back in 1 Chronicles 16 he had this and a few other Psalms combined to make a new song. So David was dancing, and celebrating the work of the LORD. When David used the song for praise and worship it had been 20 years since Israel had properly worshipped the LORD in the manner prescribed in the law.
(Preach about praise when it’s difficult)
We praise Him because idols fall but our God still stands.
We praise Him because the nations rage, but our King still reigns.
We praise Him because the world is broken, but He’s coming to make it right!
Yes — the text says, “He’s coming!”
Not to take sides, but to take over!
Not with corruption, but with righteousness!
Not with injustice, but with equity!
So until He comes, we’ll keep on singing!
We’ll keep on shouting!
We’ll keep on showing the world who He is!
Let the church say it with me: Praise on purpose!
When I’m up —
When I’m down —
When I understand —
When I don’t —
Because He’s worthy, He’s wonderful, and He’s worth it —
from the rising of the sun to the going down of the same — the name of the Lord is worthy to be praised!
