5 Adopt the same attitude as that of Christ Jesus,
6 who, existing in the form of God,
did not consider equality with God
as something to be exploited.
7 Instead he emptied himself
by assuming the form of a servant,
taking on the likeness of humanity.
And when he had come as a man,
8 he humbled himself by becoming obedient
to the point of death—
even to death on a cross.
9 For this reason God highly exalted him
and gave him the name
that is above every name,
10 so that at the name of Jesus
every knee will bow—
in heaven and on earth
and under the earth—
11 and every tongue will confess
that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
12 Therefore, my dear friends, just as you have always obeyed, so now, not only in my presence but even more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
What is the “Therefore” there fore.
Look at what Jesus has done for you now “Therefore”
Obeyed Philippians 2:8
8 he humbled himself by becoming obedient
to the point of death—
even to death on a cross.
This is not a rebuke of the Philippians. Paul is exhorting them to continue to pursue their Christians progress.
12 Therefore, my dear friends, just as you have always obeyed, so now, not only in my presence but even more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
This is not saying work on getting your salvation but work out your own salvation.
Give you your dream car it is yours you didn’t pay for it and you don’t have payments to make.
But you might what to check the oil every now and then.
Maybe rotate the tires.
If you lose your way check you BPS.
Biblical Personal Solutions
Jesus has given your salvation to you but you need to tend your relationship with Him.
“With fear and trembling”
TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY!
What kind of an impact for Christ do you want to make?
What are you doing right now to make that impact?
I can tell you personal I am not doing enough.
Let me show you how you are able to make this impact. Next verse.
13 For it is God who is working in you both to will and to work according to his good purpose.
You don’t do it on your own!
“will and to work”
He gives us the passion and the ability to make the impact we are to make.
14 Do everything without grumbling and arguing,
“Everything” really?
What if I don’t like what I’m doing?
What if it is hard to do?
What if the person lead it doesn’t do things like I think they should be done?
This was a church that got along but Paul through the wisdom of the Holy Spirt knew at some point they would deal with this.
I’m telling you today Clarkson Baptist Church at some point we will go through this very thing.
How we go through it will define who we are as a Church.
15 so that you may be blameless and pure, children of God who are faultless in a crooked and perverted generation, among whom you shine like stars in the world,
We need to shine as a beacon of light. Showing others with our action how to walk with Christ.
14 “You are the light of the world. A city situated on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 No one lights a lamp and puts it under a basket, but rather on a lampstand, and it gives light for all who are in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.
16 by holding firm to the word of life. Then I can boast in the day of Christ that I didn’t run or labor for nothing.
Paul wanted to see that his sacrifice mattered.
So he says hold firm to the word of life.
How do you hold firm to the word of life.
READ AND STUDY YOUR BIBLE.
How much should I read and study my bible?
I will some it up in one word. “MORE”
17 But even if I am poured out as a drink offering on the sacrificial service of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you.
Drink offering: In the Bible, a drink offering was a ritualistic pouring of wine, and sometimes other liquids like milk or oil, as an offering to God, often alongside other sacrifices. It symbolized a complete dedication and devotion to God, a pouring out of oneself in worship. Drink offerings were a part of the sacrificial system in the Old Testament and were also used in personal acts of devotion.
18 In the same way you should also be glad and rejoice with me.
Be a drink offering be glad and rejoice with me.
Paul was in jail!
You want to make an impact serve the King of Kings today!
Let Jesus live in you and though you.
