Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him.
Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan and said to them, “Go up into the Negeb and go up into the hill country, and see what the land is, and whether the people who dwell in it are strong or weak, whether they are few or many, and whether the land that they dwell in is good or bad, and whether the cities that they dwell in are camps or strongholds, and whether the land is rich or poor, and whether there are trees in it or not. Be of good courage and bring some of the fruit of the land.” Now the time was the season of the first ripe grapes.
So they went up and spied out the land from the wilderness of Zin to Rehob, near Lebo-hamath. They went up into the Negeb and came to Hebron. Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the descendants of Anak, were there. (Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.) And they came to the Valley of Eshcol and cut down from there a branch with a single cluster of grapes, and they carried it on a pole between two of them; they also brought some pomegranates and figs. That place was called the Valley of Eshcol, because of the cluster that the people of Israel cut down from there.
At the end of forty days they returned from spying out the land. And they came to Moses and Aaron and to all the congregation of the people of Israel in the wilderness of Paran, at Kadesh. They brought back word to them and to all the congregation, and showed them the fruit of the land. And they told him, “We came to the land to which you sent us. It flows with milk and honey, and this is its fruit. However, the people who dwell in the land are strong, and the cities are fortified and very large. And besides, we saw the descendants of Anak there. The Amalekites dwell in the land of the Negeb. The Hittites, the Jebusites, and the Amorites dwell in the hill country. And the Canaanites dwell by the sea, and along the Jordan.”
But Caleb quieted the people before Moses and said, “Let us go up at once and occupy it, for we are well able to overcome it.” Then the men who had gone up with him said, “We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we are.” So they brought to the people of Israel a bad report of the land that they had spied out, saying, “The land, through which we have gone to spy it out, is a land that devours its inhabitants, and all the people that we saw in it are of great height.
And Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, who were among those who had spied out the land, tore their clothes and said to all the congregation of the people of Israel, “The land, which we passed through to spy it out, is an exceedingly good land. If the Lord delights in us, he will bring us into this land and give it to us, a land that flows with milk and honey. Only do not rebel against the Lord. And do not fear the people of the land, for they are bread for us. Their protection is removed from them, and the Lord is with us; do not fear them.”
Lesson Nine: You Can Have What you Say
Central truth: It was not the giants in the land of Canaan who kept the Israelites out, but the giants of fear in their hearts
Mark 11:23
This text gives us the “faith formula” for moving whatever mountains my be present in our lives.
Whether you particular mountian is sickness, unsaved loved ones, financial difficulties, or family problems, you can find the solution in this verse of Scripture.
Kenneth Hagin says of this verse, “This verse is especially meaningful to me because its truths, shed aboard in my heart as a bedridden boy of 16, brought me to divine healing and set my feet on the pathway to a deeper faith in God.”
Mark 11:23 “I tell you the truth, you can say to this mountain, ‘May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and it will happen. But you must really believe it will happen and have no doubt in your heart.”
NKJV “ For o assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.”
The Last phrase “he will have whatever he says.” In other words whatever you say you have
Both in the Good confessions of faith, and the negative things that you speak
What you say is your faith speaking! - This works is a negative way just as it works in a positive way, as we see in the Old Testament story of the 12 spies that went into the land of Canaan
A Report of Fear
Numbers 13:17-18 “Moses gave the men these instructions as he sent them out to explore the land: “Go north through the Negev into the hill country. 18 See what the land is like, and find out whether the people living there are strong or weak, few or many.”
Numbers 13:25-32 “ After exploring the land for forty days, the men returned 26 to Moses, Aaron, and the whole community of Israel at Kadesh in the wilderness of Paran. They reported to the whole community what they had seen and showed them the fruit they had taken from the land. 27 This was their report to Moses: “We entered the land you sent us to explore, and it is indeed a bountiful country—a land flowing with milk and honey. Here is the kind of fruit it produces. 28 But the people living there are powerful, and their towns are large and fortified. We even saw giants there, the descendants of Anak! 29 The Amalekites live in the Negev, and the Hittites, Jebusites, and Amorites live in the hill country. The Canaanites live along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea* and along the Jordan Valley.”
30 But Caleb tried to quiet the people as they stood before Moses. “Let’s go at once to take the land,” he said. “We can certainly conquer it!”
31 But the other men who had explored the land with him disagreed. “We can’t go up against them! They are stronger than we are!” 32 So they spread this bad report about the land among the Israelites: “The land we traveled through and explored will devour anyone who goes to live there. All the people we saw were huge.”
of the 12 spies who went into the land to spy out the land, only two of them Caleb and Joshua, were men of faith and vision. they declared “Let’sd go at once to take the Land… We can certainly conquer it!.”
The other ten fearful spies, were in the majority, and the children of Israel accepted the majority report.
When they did, they were saying they couldn’t take the land, they couldn’t have the promise of God
And they got exactly what they said!
These spies and the rest of that generation of Israelites- with only the exception of Joshua and Caleb- never saw the Promised land.
Why? They believed that they couldn’t take it, and as a result they didn’t take it.
They wandered in the wilderness until they died.
What they said came to pass!
They are an example of faith in reverse
Even when you doubt you are believing something
If you don’t believe what you are saying , then you shouldn’t be saying it, because if you keep saying something l;ong enough, those words eventually will register in your spirit
And once they are registered in your spirit, they will control your life!
Report of FAITH
Numbers 14:6-9, “Two of the men who had explored the land, Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh, tore their clothing. 7 They said to all the people of Israel, “The land we traveled through and explored is a wonderful land! 8 And if the Lord is pleased with us, he will bring us safely into that land and give it to us. It is a rich land flowing with milk and honey. 9 Do not rebel against the Lord, and don’t be afraid of the people of the land. They are only helpless prey to us! They have no protection, but the Lord is with us! Don’t be afraid of them!”
Look at the Good report of Joshua and Caleb
Where was their trust?
They trusted in the Lord, and their hearts were filled with faith that God wa able to bring them into the land He promised to their forefathers.
Two times in verse nine they tell the people “do not fear.”
they were the only two men of their generation to enter the Promised Land!
You can have what you confess- you get what you say
Many people ask and think why they can’t get healed- they already are saying and thinking the problem
They say they can’t- Their words give them away
There thoughts give them away
Take every thought captive
You can always locate people by what they say
Before praying for people, I tryt o get them to make some kind of confession of faith
Whether that is healing, or provision- It normally comes out as “What do you want” or “what are you believing for”
I should ask do you believe “will you be healed when I lay my hands on you and pray?”
because if the answer to that is “I hope so”, then they expose that they wont, because they are in hope and not in faith!
Other people make the confession with some hesitancy, and it is this hesitancy that defeats them
Song of Solomon 2:15 “ Catch all the foxes, those little foxes, before they ruin the vineyard of love, for the grapevines are blossoming!”
Those who have a quick confession full of faith receive almost instantly
It is not something big that keeps God’s children from being healed, just like it wasn’t the giants in the land that kept the people of Israel out
it wasn’t the giants who defeated them
If had been the giants, they would have defeated Joshua and Caleb too, along with everyone else
no - the people were defeated by themselves and their wrong thinking, backed by their wrong confession-
Or their wrong believing and their own wrong declaration of unbelief.
Caleb & Joshua said they were able to overcome the giants. After 40 years- Joshua and Caleb’s confession was still the same
after all the people of that generation who had accepted the evil report of the ten spies had died- Joshua became the people’s leader.
He and Caleb led them to victory.
When Caleb came to Joshua he said “Give me this mountain.” Joshua 14:9-12
Caleb tells Joshua GOd’s promise- it was his confession of Faith
Joshua hears this confession and blesses Caleb- Joshua 14:13 “So Joshua blessed Caleb son of Jephunneh and gave Hebron to him as his portion of land.”
Caleb was just as full of Faith taking the mountain- which had giants as he did 40 years earlier when he first saw the giants
Many things happen because we expect them to happen a certain way. They happen because we believe and talk it until it comes to pass. I find this true in my own life
Kennth Hagin- “Some time age I read about a scientist who said that when one gets older, his brain isn’t as soft as it was when he younger ; it gradually keeps hardening. I reached the place where I couldn’t remember things as well as I once did. I went along this way for a while until I realized there wasn’t any need for it. The mind is part of my inward being and spirit, and it never grows old- It is being renewed. The very moment I started believing right and talking right, I could quote all the scripture I had ever known, and my memory actually improved.”
We fail sometimes because we get ready to fail
We prepare to fail
We think it, believe it , and then do it!
As believers, we have no business talking failure or doubt.
We should talk faith!
Memory Verse:
Mark 11:23, “I tell you the truth, you can say to this mountain, ‘May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and it will happen. But you must really believe it will happen and have no doubt in your heart.”
Lesson in action:
James 1:22, “but be doers of the word, and not hearers only…”
