Two False Beliefs

Atheism
Atheist believe that there is no God.
Agnosticism
We cannot know for sure if God exists.
We cannot really know anything about God.

The Bible’s Harsh Rebuke

Psalm 14:1 “The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds; there is none who does good.”

How the Existence of God Has Been Revealed

Special Revelation
Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”
Exodus 3:14 “God said to Moses, “I am who I am.” And he said, “Say this to the people of Israel: ‘I am has sent me to you.’ ””
Jeremiah 9:23–24 “Thus says the Lord: “Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the Lord.””
General Revelation
Romans 1:19–20 “For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.”
Everything that starts to exist must have a cause.
The design in nature implies a Designer.
The presence of an objective moral law implies a Law Giver.
The complexity of creation cannot be random.
Francis Collins (Geneticist, Director of NIH, and Christian apologist) In The Language of God (2006), Collins argues that DNA is “the language of life” and “the script of God,” noting its structured, orderly, and information-bearing nature. “DNA is an information molecule, carrying a four-letter digital code.” – The Language of God, p. 2
Richard Dawkins (Atheist evolutionary biologist) Even as an atheist, Dawkins acknowledges DNA’s coded structure:“What lies at the heart of every living thing is not a fire, not warm breath, not a ‘spark of life.’ It is information, words, instructions.” – River Out of Eden, 1995
Werner Gitt (Information scientist and creationist) In In the Beginning Was Information, Gitt argues that information, such as found in DNA, always comes from an intelligent source. He proposes that natural processes can’t explain semantic information.
Leroy Hood (Pioneer in genomics)Refers to the genome as “the book of life” because of its structured code and function in transmitting biological information.

Why This Doctrine Matters

We have a higher level of value and purpose if God really exists.
If God exists, then we are accountable to Him.
Because we are accountable to God, we should seek to know how He desires us to live.
If God is knowable, then it should be a priority in our lives to know Him.
